Saw John Hiatt and Lyle Lovett, acoustic, a couple years ago. My wife bought us front row center seats. AWESOME show. John would play a song, then Lyle would play a song. Sometimes they would accompany each other, sometimes they would just watch. No set list! People started calling out songs and they would sometimes take the suggestion. Probably the best show I've ever seen. HIGHLY recommend anything off John's Perfectly Good Guitar album. Buffalo River Home is the song I called out and he played it! I just about swooned!

We know you love Bonnie Raitt. Check out “Thing Called Love.” It was a huge hit, and it’s written by and originally recorded by John Hiatt. I love that guy. So many great songs. Here’s one right up your alley: “Have a Little Faith in Me”

Sebs I was at this show. Joe had several guests including Paul Rogers (Bad Company). This was at the Beacon Theater in NYC. When you check out John Hiatt and you will, you will hear a guitarist who is another guy who is one of the most underrated guitar player. His name is Sonny Landreth. Here are a few Hiatt songs to check out "Paper Thin", "Slow Turning", "Perfectly Good Guitar" and "Buffalo River Home". John wrote his autobiography a few years ago. It's an amazing story of someone who went through so much and came out on the other side of it.

I saw John Hiatt live in Victoria BC more than 30 years ago at a little pub and I had the awesome experience of listening and watching a true master of the blues sing and play the acoustic guitar all by himself and with no electronic embellishment for 2 hours. and sat less than 10 feet from him. A real real talent and one of the great musical experiences of my life

John Hiatt IS one of the best songwriters ever. In the late 80’s, he put out two albums-Bring the Family, and then Drive South. Rolling Stone rated the pair as the best pair from a single artist of the decade. Thing Called Love, Drive South, two of my favorites! And far as blues guitarists, check out Robert Cray.

Bring The Family (Ry Cooder, Nick Lowe, and Jim Keltner) and Slow Turning (Sonny Landreth and his guys, Dave Ranson and Kenny Blevins- The Goners). Drive South is a tune on Slow Turning.
My two favorites albums, though I like all of Hiatt's work.

I 'discovered' John Hiatt listening to a free-form radio station out of Cambria California in 1992. He quickly became one of my favorite singer/songwriters (his guitar is pretty dang good too!). By year 2000 I had more CDs of his than anyone else (except my all-time Jimmy Buffett...but that is my cult). To this day, still one of my all time favorites, highly underrated! Would have loved to see these two together!

Excellent choice for a reaction video. I'm a big fan of Joe, but when I first heard this, I wasn't sure what to think of it. The more I heard it the more it grew on me. Now I think this is a killer song. I love it. Also, I love your videos. I give a young man such as yourself a lot of credit for checking out classic rock stuff as well as contemporary songs across various genres. That shows me you are a true music lover. Keep up the good work!

Almost no reactor has done a deep dive into John Hiatt's music, but he has so many great songs (and some you've likely heard covered by others, without knowing that Hiatt wrote them, including "Thing Called Love" performed by Bonnie Raitt and "Angel Eyes" performed by Jeff Healey). 𝐵𝑟𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝐹𝑎𝑚𝑖𝑙𝑦 and 𝑆𝑙𝑜𝑤 𝑇𝑢𝑟𝑛𝑖𝑛𝑔 are my favorite of his albums. So many songs come to mind. "Seven Little Indians." "Lipstick Sunset." "Georgia Rae" (do that reaction with your wife). "Slow Turning." Great songwriter and a better singer than you might gather from this particular piece, when his voice was aging and he was losing some of his range (but using it effectively, hauntingly).

John Hiatt is a wicked guitarist and a preternatural songwriter from Indianapolis, my hometown. I was at the Ben and Jerry's Folk Festival back in the 90's and his set was smokin', and I watched him break a string on his guitar and RESTRING IT WHILE CONTINUING TO PLAY THE SONG.... he's a hall-of-famer in all regards.

Check out Les Paul and Chet Atkins and look at their style. Joe is pretty quiet unless he's comfortable in his surroundings. I was lucky enough to win backstage passes and a meet and greet in Columbus, Ga.
He played a little over an hour with 12 different acoutic guitars, then after the break they did more than 90 minutes of power rock and blues. One of my top 5 shows out of hundreds.

Bonamassa's first song on his first album was a Rory Gallagher cover.
Paul Rodgers loved Rory as well as Slash,Brian May and a cast of thousands.
This is my official lobbying for Rory.
    Bad Penny- Montreux 1986(I think).
Rory was popular but never wanted to be a "rock star"
Bonamassa is helping keep The Blues alive.

OK here we go, adding to your guitar searches, Jeff Beck. He goes all the way back to Yardbirds, Page, Clapton, etc. The song is "Cause we've ended as lovers", and only a true guitarist can appreciate his phenomenal tightness in note control. Bass player will blow your mind in this video too. ua-cam.com/video/VC02wGj5gPw/v-deo.html&pp=ygUlamVmZiBiZWNrIGNhdXNlIHdlJ3ZlIGVuZGVkIGFzIGxvdmVycw%3D%3D
Second, you could start a B side, lets say you reacted to the popular Kansas "Carry On Wayward Son", The B side is to pick a song that simply got crowded out like "The Wall" not making the charts necessarily, but great nonetheless. Its the album lovers that know these songs and not necessarily the chart followers.
Listening with your wife, Tonight's The Night" by Rod Steward or just about any Rod Steward.
Firefall, Cinderella, B side Mexico (Great guitar)
LIttle River Band "Help Is On The Way", B side "Cool Changes"
HeadEast, "Never Been any Reason" B side "Since You've Been Gone"
Boston B side, "Something About You"
For your personal enjoyment of guitar, Mexico above by Firefall, New Orleans is sinking by Tragically Hip, and Gabriel Rodriguez does a Flamenco Stairway to Heaven

As a guitarist, if you want to be serious, the first thing you should learn is the fretboard.. I played guitar for years & i am pretty good, i have a diploma in music industry as a guitarist, but i got so much better once i learned the fretboard & learn counting or clapping rhythms, it will vastly improve how to read tabs or sheet music, if you know that group of notes means this or that, then you can learn a song so much faster & it doesnt take long to learn those 2 things at all..
