  • Who is Annie Barton and what's up with the year 1972? Barton 1972 straps are popular amongst leather camera strap connoisseurs around the world, but who are the people behind this unique camera accessory brand and store? Meet owners Victor and Carmen of Annie Barton 1972 in the Central district of Hong Kong. Victor, a fellow camera nerd, was happy to talk with me about his shop... but I think he was happier talking about cameras and photography. Please enjoy this video as Victor and I talk about his passion for film photography, including Leica's, vintage cameras, and large format. Oh, and he sells camera straps too!

    Hey, another great video.
    Barton 1972 is a cool little store. I visited the store back in Dec 2012.. I stumbled upon this place during my camera gear search for a nice bag and strap.. heard about both Barton 1972 and Wotancraft initially from Steve Huff Photo. These are probably both my favorite brands for my camera gear.. if it's a strap, it's almost always from Barton 1972 (own 2 so far, a black Composer strap for my Fuji X100, and more recently a Faded Gray Braided strap for my X-Pro1). If it's a camera bag, it's always the Wotancraft.. have personally owned 6 of them... and consequently, I do also really like the Gordy Straps which is also sold at Barton 1972... they work so well with smaller mirrorless options such as the Fuji's and Olympus (2 brands I use).
    I wonder if that's the same cat I saw back then.. it was incredibly lazy and chill.. have a pic of it somewhere.
    It's just a cool little shop that's got so much to stare at when you go there.. I admit I didn't have meet the owner and have the grand tour like you did.. It's amazing how much cool and unique cameras and accessories are packed into that relatively small space.. and you wouldn't think this store exists.. hard to see from the outside, but well worth the search and visit to when you go there if you like cool camera gear.
    Hope you are having (or had, if you're already back to Vancouver) a great time in HK.. I miss it, haven't had a chance to go back since Dec 2012, so looking forward to going back asap.
    Keep up the great work in the reviews and camera talks.. your enthusiasm carries your show through well.

    Victor! So great to "meet" you and Carmen! Thanks for the shout out to Gordy's Camera Straps. I'm afraid after watching this vid, he has his eyes on more lenses. We do have you guys beat in the cat department (we have 3). >^^< peace

      Hi Zoe, sorry for replying so awfully late, we were so very blind. The two cats, Honey and Zuga, are our permanent residents keeping a not-so-watchful eye over the shop ...:P It's joy to have them around !

      bigheadtaco When you say popular, do you mean many people use them or that there are many to buy?

    • @bigheadtaco
      @bigheadtaco  8 років тому

      Calvin Chann it's hard to find here, but there's many Asians living in Vancouver and many travel abroad, especially to Hong Kong. Both John Lehmann and Tarry G have Barton straps, as do many of my other friends and colleagues.

    • @calvinchann1996
      @calvinchann1996 8 років тому

      +bigheadtaco Well, it seems we don't think so alike. I was referring to the XPan being available in Vancouver. The Barton straps I can get because I have colleagues in HK and I do go there from time to time. :)

    • @bigheadtaco
      @bigheadtaco  8 років тому

      Calvin Chann oh sorry about that. The XPan or T-X1 is very difficult to find anywhere. I would guess that HK and Japan are the best places to find. I know 3 people with the XPan/T-X1 here in Vancouver, but these guys are hardcore film guys and they would never sell it.

    wow, impressive collection! couple of quick notes:
    - ducati cameras were indeed manufactured - not just designed - by the famous company in bologna that later made - and still makes - wonderful bikes; they were half-frame rangefinders, rare to find. It looks like he has a nice one there.
    - the leica mp (film) does have a meter, see the battery compartment on the front - other than that, it is a completely mechanical camera, so it will shoot without power too...
    i do have one of their straps, deep blue, on my M4, i love that it 'stretches' a bit and acts as a shock absorber!

      +iello911 Awesome thanks for the additional info! As you can tell we didn't rehearse this video so many things we just didn't have the answer for on the spot. Now I'm really interested in the Ducati half-frame rangefinder....

Thank you for introducing me to Annie Barton. Expect me to buy the strap after I am reunited with my Rolleiflex. @Annie Barton - Just wondering, Do you make the scissor clip on strap for the rolleiflex??

    nice video but a bit strange to sand down an mp, I'm sure it looks nice but surely the bracing and wear is interesting because of the life of the camera not because the owner decide it looks cool.

    Honestly, Victor seems not very familiar with his own gears, e.g. single stroke m3 vs double stroke m3, MP definitely has light metering, and for negative film, it is common to overexpose rather than underexpose.
