Thanks so much Chris, these are wonderful vids. I'm an elderly complete beginner and finding your channel has been terrifically encouraging. Thanks mate. God bless you and keep 'em coming!
Hi Joel! I'm glad that you like the videos. Thank you for taking time out to let me know ( this means a lot to me)! I'm more excited that you have decided to play again! Please, stay with it and I hope to see you around often! I'll help you along the way.
Wow, Chris! Thanks for the encouragement. I'm playing (duet with trombone, piano accompaniment) at church in an hour--first time I've played in public since high school!
I’m so happy I found this account! I’m working on bettering my skills and this is a perfect channel for that thanks so much! Also, by any chance, is that a harrelson trumpet, the top and bottom caps look very familiar?
Hi i am bass player and new to the trumpet. I am self taught so thank you so much for the tutorials. My question is do we need to warm up everytime we pick up the horn to play? If I play in the evening I need to do this even if I warm up in the morning. Thank you.
I believe that it is good to warm up everyday before you play just like an athlete does before a game. Is it necessary to warm up twice in a day? Listen to your body here. Everyone is different. I know some people that do. Personally, I don't but only because I've experimented with timing of it all.
@@ChrisDavisTrumpet Thank you so much for the advice. Really appreciate. Actually I am now realising that it does not hurt to warm up a bit before playing.

I’m 14, and I really want to get a music scholarship, do you know what I can do to improve my playing? I’m already pretty good for my age, but I want to be really good. Should I focus on endurance, or should I focus on a different area of playing? Thanks in advance.
The first thing you should do is adopt a routine and stick with it. Many people your age don't have one and end up playing random things as they feel like it. Endurance will come with a routine and so will range and everything else. There are a lot of great methods out there. It's more important that you choose one and see it through. I'll recommend the Adam Routine. Also, if you don't have a teacher then you should get one as soon as possible. If you don't choose me then get with someone near you.
I’m having trouble deciding which mouthpiece to use, one of them it’s easier to get high notes out of and it requires little effort, but the other one has a much better tone quality. So which would you prefer?
The question is which do YOU prefer. Selecting mouthpiece is very personal. I can’t make that choice for you. What are you going for in your sound? Choose accordingly.
Excuse me sir but i have been playing trumpet for almost 3 years and out of no where on friday i cant get above a d and no matter how hard i try i cat get a high e and i dont know why do you have any ideas why
TAKE SOME TIME OFF!!!!!! This is serious. Over practicing can lead to injury and the road back is a tedious one. Listen to your body. Rest!!!! When you do practice, pace yourself and don’t play to the point of soreness. Check out the series I did on the channel about endurance and watch the interview I did with Marques Carroll. These may prove helpful.
@@ChrisDavisTrumpet Hi, Chris. Thanks for the note! Yes, I blow out the two valves down near the bell. I've also noticed my trumpet stand (the conical part) is wet; I guess moisture makes its way all the way to the final tube!
Your videos have been some of the most helpful, thank you for the lessons!
Certainly! It’s my pleasure to help!
Is nice to hear lots of different perspectives
I agree. It's helpful to hear the similarities and differences. I am glad that you enjoyed the video, Allister!

Hello, Chris! Thank you for your videos--they're short and to the point and loaded with info. I'm playing again for the first time in nearly 30 years!

Can’t say for sure without hearing and seeing you play. Sign up for some lessons. I’m wondering, do you have a balanced routine?
I think I’ve been over practicing as my muscles are really sore do you know anyway to help with recovering

Can u blow trumpet when u are worried about something
Technically yes but it’s better when your mind is free.
Greetings, Chris! Question: When I play, I often hearing a gurgling, as though there's still spit in there. Is that a result of weak lips? Thanks!
There may actually be spit in the horn. Do you check the spit valves?
