Oh dang. I wonder if a bit more shipping track action is a good basic approach to Ix? The tension is high - looking forward to more Ix games.
He really seems to actively avoiding the shipping track due to disliking it for thinking it's OP. The influence there is powerful, but it takes 2-3 agents to access it (and you need two points in Guild to make it 2 agents) which lessens it a bit. It really is about keeping people in the alliance game if they don't pull their faction cards - but as long as those shipping spaces are competitive, it doesn't pull the game too much. However, if you let one player just dominate Interstellar Shipping, then they will have a huge advantage. It's a bit of risk-reward; the spaces are only powerful if you get to get on them consistently.
Yesterday I played my first matches of Rise of Ix (board game) and I was like you in this video: had no idea of what I was doing hahaha. In fact, I started with the usual Stillsuits 1st move and then realized that there isn't a sell melange tile anymore.
(and I got destroyed 😅)
Yeah, no Sell Melange is a huge adjustment. I still haven't wrapped my head around it.

smuggling is not a combat space so it's correct nothing was deployed round 5

Would have been 13 after losing the conflict and the Guild Alliance but still enough to win. Yeah it was a pretty epic fail!

I only played a couple epic games, but one thing I learned (rather painfully) is that you need to secure your alliances by going all the way to the top. The game is just too long for them not to be contested.
I want to say that I for one am glad you also stream the classic dune emperium. because I just got into the base game and I'm not sure at the moment if I think the expansion is better.
Cheers, yes I will continue to play base game as well. The focus will probably be on Rise of Ix for now though.
@@bludgeontv If you ask me the UA-cam algorithm favors it. I only own the base game but I can join rise X games appearantly If someone else hosts them. I have acces to the tutorial as well.

I was yelling at the screen “PLAY YOUR CHOAM INTRIGUE CARD!” Just before you clicked reveal on the last turn. So much to pay attention to in this version.
I was yelling too. If he used it and burned spice for that tech last round, he would've ended with 13, even without the guild alliance.
