Great information!! When I’ve given Jewelry as a gift to someone, I always include a little “Basic Jewelry Care” instruction sheet saying not to sleep or shower in your jewelry and not to wear it in a pool, etc.
Thank you for sharing this! I’m looking forward to seeing how to fix jewelry that is tarnished as I’ve come across forgotten items that are no longer their sparkling selves! 💜

So funny you loaded this video today. I just found a little drawer set I have had for a very long time. I forgot I even had it. But in one of the little drawers was about 100 eye pins that were tarnished. It's like I live in the jungle it's so humid here. And because it's on a hillside in the middle of the woods we rarely even get a breeze. It can be windy in town, & the air is still here. The trees are so dense they block any breeze. I hate it. I can't even walk to my car without getting beads of sweat on my forehead. Tarnish is a big problem for me. Looking forward to more info. TYFS

Oh man! That definitely sounds like a breeding ground for tarnish. I have found that it is much easier to prevent it, than to clean it - sometimes it's possible, but sometimes things are just too far "gone." Glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching!

Dear Gina! It always is comforting to know that tarnish is common and that there are ways to prevent it. Living in humid Costa Rica 🇨🇷 makes it much more difficult, so I have been switching over to stainless steel as much as I can. The variety of components available is growing, thank God! Nevertheless, I still mix in brass and copper, because they are somehow more resistant to tarnishing in this kind of climate. Thank you 🙏🏻 for all your tips.👋🏻👍🏻😄🌹

Great information video! I have 100 small square packets to put in plastic bags or in drawers from fire mountain gems coming in the mail soon. I have had one problem i couldn't figure out. I have spacers i bought at a craft store that were silver. Now they are starting to turn to copper. They have never been used. Thanks for sharing!

I heard using plastic bags actually make silver jewelry tarnish faster "Plastic contains sulfur and traps moisture, both of which cause tarnishing." Don't know if this is true or not.

This, information, was very helpful. I never would have thought to clean costume jewelry...plated metals are fun to work with, but they can turn back and tarnish. I don't mind a little black..but it can be too much , sometimes . I have a container I started storing finished jewelry, for sale in. I didnt however; think to store it, to keep it from tarnishing. I like boxes and trunks, to store finished jewelry pieces in; and future projects in...I also store bags of beads in those, if I don't want to remove certain beads, from bags.😃

I'm so glad it was helpful, Jennifer! it can definitely be a chore to stay on top of the tarnish, but certainly better than trying to clean it up. Sometimes, it's too late. :) Thanks for watching, and for your comment!

Another that will tarnish metal is sun light or exposure to UV light. After you put your jewelry away...I do prefer zip top bags, put it into a dark box or paper bag. Anything to keep the light off. I use this for my costume or sliver jewelry. I’m glad you did this video Gina. A lot of people ask about this in real life, I’m known as a jewelry junkie 😂
