- How to make your faded baseball cap look like new:
Steps to restoring:
1 - Wash cap: You can use a cage like in the link below for washing in washing machine (gentle with Woolite) or just soak in warm water with gentle detergent )www.amazon.com...)
2 - Cover up logos or decals with painters tape: www.amazon.com...
3- Spray hat with fabric dye: Let dry for about 5 minutes before reapplying: www.amazon.com...
4- Remove painters tape and use permanent marker to tighten up any missed areas.
Great video! Just watched this video a few days ago and immediately ordered the paint and once it arrived I sprayed a black ball cap that had very noticeable orange sweat stains which I could not get out after a thorough washing. The hat now looks like new. The Tulip Brand Fabric Paint worked extremely well. I also painted the faded black brim of another hat and it looks great too. Just ordered the Neon Blue Color and will use it on a faded and stained blue hat.
That's awesome. Let me know how the other colors come out. I've been happy because the hat definitely outlives the color so it's nice to be able to extend the looks. Thanks for the comment!
You did a very good job and I’m ordering the black spray paint as we speak lol thanks 🙏🏼
Thank you and good luck!
thank you
Most welcome
I want to do this, since my mother gave me her cap from the 90s
Did you give it a try? What color is the hat?
@@DennisWysocki I haven't tried yet, the hat is black!
@Cosmare black worked well.... easy to match color. Good luck in your restoration.
Gonna try this, if this works for me, some random Hero on you tube just saved me $100's a year in hats.
Let's hope so! I'm still wearing the ones I restored.... which is good because I haven't seen them being sold. The one I use for running has had to be washed a few times and may need a refresh; however it still looks good.
hi great video, does the fabric harden up after spraying ? or does the fabric feel soft like before the spray ?
I'd say it feels stiffer right after but softens with use. I've washed it by hand a couple months later and by that time you couldn't feel any stiffness while the color remained. And thanks for your comment and question. Sorry for slow reply.
Could you tell me what brand of spray paint you used?… thanks
I used Tulip colorshot instant fabric color. Matte black. I was able to color 2 hats with a 3 oz can.
Will the paint wash off if i wash the cap with warm water and soap?
I had washed my cap about 3 times and it held its color. I will probably need to recolor though as the sun and sweat are fading out once again.
How has the color held up since you sprayed it?
It's held up quite well. I haven't used it during my runs so not getting sweat marks. I'd definitely do it again to prolong a favorite hat's life and looks.
Does the dye run when you run it under cold water, or when you're out in the rain?
I just washed it in the sink the other day for the first time (lukewarm/cold) with a little dish soap and none of the dye bled. It worked well.
Sorry..slow reply. I've washed a few times and it holds the color. I think you'll be good.
You remind me of Donnie Wahlberg
Thanks... I'm sure he's more talented than me.
