I took the best professor for CS1 (shoutout to the king himself Dr. Gerber) and I just barely escaped with an A and my sanity. It is doable but FUCK did that class break me
That experience is going to make you a better person. Don't let it push you down, in truth it should make you proud. It should show you that you are not only good enough, but better than that game. You can fight and win if you have to. That will go a long way.
@@MarkEndsley thank u so much :’) i take my first attempt at FE today, and boy did i need to hear that
*prof. Guha
Passed Meade, spring 2023. 🙏🏽
Anyone still scarred by Arup Guha's mastermind.c assignment?
I took this class with Tanvir Ahmed, I failed but I learned a lot
Just passed CS1 with a B with Arup Guha. That was fucking hell. Be warned all future UCF cs students. This class is hard hard
Congrats man, you earned it. Trust me it will pay off.
He’s one of the hardest professors.
This was the class that made me quit computer engineering for electrical engineering lol
No worries, I know plenty of people who graduated with an EE degree, that degree has great future prospects.
Wow I just happened upon your videos and see your talking about the class I'm studying for! Anyways thanks for the help!
Hope it's going well. Try to have fun, the concepts you get from this class can really be built upon.
this is Dr. Szumlanski lolz
any suggestions for passing the foundation exam??
I didn't have to take it, I did an IT degree.... Take the hard professors.
@@MarkEndsley I'm getting ready to start at UCF as a transfer for computer science. I've heard so many scary stories about the exam. Gotta say I'm kinda nervous for it
Also, I don't agree with how we are expected to learn some concepts in c and data structures that no one ever uses in real life. I'm literally wasting my time doing this.. I could be learning something that's *much* more valuable. They making us do this shit just because there are too many people in this major, and all the big companies want us to know these concepts that we'll end up never using in real life *just to see who can go that extra mile*. Like not everyone in CSE wants to work for a company forever. There are people out there who want to be enterpreneurs (for instance), and they don't want to devote all their time for bullshit like this.. like come on. Not everyone wants to work for FANG.
I don't work for a FANG company and I don't write these algorithms from scratch, but I can't say learning them has been useless either. Knowing how they work is very useful when debugging, especially with performance issues.
@@MarkEndsley True.. it did teach me a lot on the other hand
@K C That sorta depends on what constitutes "many" It is about 65k in the US, 185k in China, and 215k in India each year. If that is a lot all comes down to your viewpoint in the future demand for those skills. I personally don't think it is too high, but I also think software will continue to shape the future.
@K C People trying to sell you coding boot camps are almost always being paid to do so. That isn't to say they have no value, but I wouldn't go based on what they say. Graduating from a good public University with a CS degree is fine for getting into a FANG job (or just a good one). It is much more about the skills you have to bring to the table than it is the University you attended. The best thing you can do is walk out with marketable skills alongside your degree. Internships can be a great way to do that.
Is most the learning based online?
I switched from Aerospace. IT WAS HORRIBLE (edit: CSE at UCF was). It's different from other engineering majors.
Now I know why all those guys seemed so bummed out.
What was horrible aerospace or comp science?
Computer science was!! They don't teach you shit about computer science at UCF. You're expected to be a professional before starting the program related courses.
@@saisurisetti6278 Why'd you switch from aerospace? I actually plan on getting an AA in CompSci from a community college and then transfer my credits to UCF, but I was told that trying to pursue aerospace is useless since my credits won't transfer. Should I transfer credits for a BS or BA in computer science?
@@tasinal-hassan8268 Residency reasons man.. I moved from India when I was like 9 years old.. still didn't get a damn green card. They don't sponsor non-green-card holders AE jobs.. they only sponser jobs in Electrical Engineeing/IT fields. I'm so done with this bullshit.
Is this topic in regards to the graduate program in Computer Science or under graduate program?
CS1 is generally taken in undergrad
So wait is Computer Science software engineering? I'm kind of confused.
It is one class you will take in many degrees that allow you to do Software Engineering
taking cs1 for the first time this summer c semester :)
did you graduate ?
@@ane5903lol yes! And I'm very happy I stuck through with the degree. College is harder is than the job (coding interviews are tough)
@@freddyhaug9379 I'm happy for you! I am looking to go into cs myself and i was wondering what is was like? like as far as the math goes, classes etc... and if its as hard as people make it out to be.
@@ane5903 Yeah it is, but not impossible and so worth it. I never was strong at math or programmed before college. Thanks!
Same but 5 years later
Don't listen to this guy. This class really isn't that bad if you put in the time :)
I’m bout to start tmrw at UCF and I’m terrified by this and the foundations exam
Hey it is not that bad, but is is a thing
Update 2 years later...
So I ended up withdrawing from Szum in fall of 2018 then took cs1 in fall of 2019 with prof. Ahmed & got an “A”. Now I’m entering my 3 attempts for the FE
Attempt 1: 46/100 for a pass line of 55% No pass better luck next semester
Attempt2: 0/100 skipped attempt (I assumed it was 3 attempts, not 3 CONSECUTIVE attempts :/
Attempt 3: 53/100 for a pass line of 60
This was the first time it moved from the classroom to online due to COVID and i still couldn’t capitalize
Attempt 4: (due to COVID): 62/100 for a pass line of 55.
If COVID has done anything for us it allowed me a 4th attempt with a 2nd online attempt and i capitalized... If I didn’t capitalize on 4 attempts (the last 2 being online) that would be a true astonishing accomplishment (in a negative way lol)
