- This was my first time watching Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark! And I absolutely loved it.
What a fun adventure to go on and with great (also very attractive) companions. I get the hype over Harrison Ford now as well haha.
Hope you all enjoy my journey through this awesome saga!
Next week we will get into the "Temple of Doom"

Temple of Doom is up on Patreon! Next week The Last Crusade will take its place. I really enjoyed all three but The Last Crusade may have stolen my heart completely! <3
"Does he know how to fly a plane?" - Fly, yes! Land, no!
Those spiders on Alfred Molina (Doc Ock of Spider-Man 2) were real. They had trouble getting the spiders to move and didn’t want people thinking they were props. Turns out they were all male. So they added one female and in Molina’s words “ all hell broke loose.” 😆
"It must have been very fun filming this [the Cairo streets action sequence]." Fun fact: a large number of the cast and crew, including Harrison Ford, contracted dysentery while filming their Cairo scenes (in Tunisia). Rumor has it that the shooting scene near the end of the sequence was meant to be an elaborately choreographed fight scene, but Ford was so sick that he simply suggested shooting his foe and moving on.
I always used to wonder if real-life places with booby-traps existed. Apparently they arguably do.
It's weird watching this and knowing that Tom Selleck almost got the part of Indiana Jones. He even did a couple of screen tests with Karen Allen, who played Marion, which I think was an extra feature on a later DVD release. He ended up leaving the project due to his commitment to the original "Magnum, P.I." series. Although George Lucas was hesitant to cast Harrison Ford at first, due to the two of them having worked on two "Star Wars" films together at that point in time, he decided to go through with it anyway. It's a good thing he did. :)
This was indeed amazing on the big screen. The ending was a bit much for 6 year-old me, though, we had to leave early, lol. Screaming melting people drowning in their own boiled blood was kind of an unnerving concept at that time...(later of course I realized it was just nazis, so it's quite gratifying)
Is there any man in film history in the past 40 years who is as ridiculously handsome as Harrison Ford in Raiders?
You asked why did Indy know not to look? At the start of the film the agents are shown the book with a picture of the Ark. They asked what is coming out of there? He says something like fire brimstone the power of God or something. The important thing is the figures holding the open ark have hoods on their heads so they could not witness the power of the ark.
I've been around some heavy partiers and alcoholics. You'd be surprised by how tolerant they can get to huge amounts of alcohol.
Frank Welker (probably best known as Fred from Scooby Doo) did the voice of the monkey in this movie and he’s also the voice of Abu in Disney’s Aladdin (both the original and the remake). He’s also Curious George.
I like that you breathed a sigh of relief when we didn’t see that guy take a propeller to the face.
Back in 1981 I was in summer school, and I remember during recess one of our classmate was ecstatic and just raving about this movie to me and my other classmate. So after school we had to go check this movie out. And yes, watching it in the theater definitely gave it a much bigger impact with the action scenes and special effects.
Fun fact...Tom Sellect was originally to be Indiana Jones. The producers and TV network wouldn't let him out of his contract because he was starring in the TV show Magnum PI.
John Williams, who wrote the iconic score (and so many more), has just started to score Indiana Jones 5, which he believes will be his final movie score. He just turned 90.
"I mean I wouldnt want a snake between my legs either", I died from laughing after I heard this 😂 good reaction :)
"Oh it's just a hanger" lol...that made me bust out laughing.
watched a half dozen movie reactions tonight and saved yours for last (cuz i thought it could be the best)... and it was.. thanks, that was great
Great reaction. What you were figuring out before they happened is actually a testament to this film's trope[trail]-blazing screenplay.
In the original script Marion was 13 and Indy was in his 20s during their referenced earlier romance. At some point someone said, "don't we want people to root for this guy?" and it was changed.
