I say bs because future gohan never got the real training.. look at the android/cell arc that time chamber training was to make gohan the main character. But people didnt want it.
@@HCMS71you have 0 idea what you’re talking about. toriyama killed gohans character in the buy saga because he realized the asspull of making him a pacifist wouldn’t fit him as the mc. and even then, Toriyama’s endgame for gohan has always been for him to wear glasses and become weak. in end of z its literally nerdhan in a different outfit. meaning gohan after beast will stop training AGAIN before super ends.
Can I put in a word in defense of Librarian Gohan tho? One thing consistent about Gohan, ever since Radditz dragged him from his father way back when, is that he never fights for fun. You could argue he had the Saiyan “passion for battle” kicked out of him at five years old when he was kidnapped and forced to watch his father die. Then Piccolo spent a year chucking him into mountains. Training isn’t a fun physical challenge, it’s preparation for the oncoming existential threat. Fights aren’t contests of strength and wits, they’re life and death. Before Cell, Gohan never got to choose. He was always very aware that these fights were too important, and he was needed. His weakness when he was five got his dad killed, and his weak spirit did it again when he faced Cell. Fighting never brought him anything but pain. He does it to protect those he loves, and because the world needs him. But he won’t ever CHOOSE to pursue it. It’s cost him too much. This is why I like Librarian Gohan and the Great SaiyaMan and all that goofiness. Gohan is getting some of his lost childhood back, and reclaiming some of his lost joy. Kindness is not weakness. He’s not a coward and he doesn’t back down when needed. He literally becomes a superhero because he still has an urge to use his strength for good. For the first time in his life, he’s doing what he wants! And he doesn’t want to be a beast. I don’t think Future Gohan wanted to be a beast either. He was forced into it by the deaths of his father and everyone else he knew. The stakes were so high it didn’t matter how he felt. He had to become someone he didn’t like, for the sake of protecting Trunks and what was left of the world.
Think of it. Every time Gohan fights from raditz up to cell was forced. He 'fought' raditz because he was going to kill his dad. He fought nappa and Vegeta because his potential was the most thing needed to win. He fought the Frieza force on namek because he wanted to collect the dragon balls and revive piccolo. He fights 17 and 18 because they have threatening the world for 13 years. He fights 19 and 20 because he heard of the androids' terror (even though they're not the same) and he even hit 20 to stop him from absorbing and killing piccolo. He fights cell because like with the Saiyans, his potential was really needed to win
What pisses me off ain't the wasted potential, but rather the fake epiphany everytime something happens. The writters beat the shit out of Gohan, then he says he's gonna train to become stronger, proceeds to get his ass beat again, and repeat, What I wish we had was a middle-ground between Future Gohan and librarian Gohan, a character who loves studying and spending time with his family, but is willing to spend some time keeping up with the higher ups of the verse and actually be able to protect his family. If, after the Ressurection F saga, he consistently trained instead of going all out 3 days before T.o.P, his current Beast Form wouldn't feel unearned. He doesn't have to be the strongest, just strong enough to be believeable when you see him smack Cell Max.
Future gohan was forced to fight because everyone died. He does the same thing against cell. Teen gohan takes the responsibility of having to take out cell cause he is the strongest. After goku dies the earth is peaceful. Gohan never wanted to fight not like the others anyway. Future gohan would have done similar if the androids were defeated thats just who gohan is
a good and short comment I encountered explained it best "Gohan is like the talented kid at sports that wants to do something else with his life but people around him just can't fathom he wouldn't want to be the star"
There's a great scene in Xenoverse 2 when Time Patrol Trunks tries to stop Future Gohan from going to his last battle. From the conversation they have Gohan knows that he's going to die if he goes but chooses to go anyway because people will die and he sees Trunks grown up and realizes that the future will be safe. Even if he will never see it.
Fun fact, Future Gohan never any more training after namek. And plot forgot every feature like rage boosts and Zenkais he had. AND STILL SURVIVED LONG ENOUGH TO TRAIN TRUNKS. THATS 15-18 YEARS OF TEN TOES DOWN, STANDING ON BUSINESS. NEVER LOST A LIMB UNTIL TRUNKS ENTERED THE PICTURE. If he worked like present gohan simply his rage boosts and zenkais would done in the androids in like 1 to 2 years.
I mean that is what most people hate about Gohan in Super compared to Z (Buu Saga) he dropped fighting all together even after fucking Frieza returned and he almost died
I will always defend nerd Gohan for one big reason. Gohan in the main timeline is HAPPY. He is able to live a life of his choosing and not one that was thrust on to him by the world constantly being at stake. He has consistently stepped up to the plate in times of crisis. He did it with the sayains, with Frieda, with the androids, buu, tournament of power, etc. Goku, Vegeta, and even Piccolo just have an innate passion for battle and surpassing their limits. Gohan is his own person with different priorities and he has that right to do so. He just doesn’t like fighting! Sure it’s something he can do but does that really mean he should if there’s not threat to be prepared for constantly? He cares much more about his studies and his family. We’ve seen what happens to him in another timeline and it ends in his demise. We got to see what it was like for him having to be the sole protector of the earth but it still ring true to his character. He always steps up when he’s needed and will always protect the innocent. A lot of people just want Gohan to be Goku 2.0 and I really just don’t understand why. Just let the man be happy! He’s done plenty.
Gohan being a nerd was never the problem, in fact all versions of Gohan are nerds. RoF Gohan for example is a straight flanderized version of his character for what seems like a gag to ruin a fans mood. You think Gohan being a massive nerd would turn up something more relevant than being a bug researcher, very mundane considering the buildup
I’ll say my take on it. Future gohan kinda feels like a result, of him trying to become his father. Some people even say that future gohan lack the same hidden power he always carried as a kid because of this. It may be disappointing to a lot of fans that present gohan doesn’t like fighting, but he’s already far stronger than his future self. Not to mention he hates fighting- idk about you guys but I’d be pretty bummed if the character we all praise for his power, hated what he was doing. In the manga goku even apologize within dragon ball super. He knew his son didn’t want to fight, but he had too. Now gohan should at least train once in a while - and he is now from what I’m seeing, but let’s not bash on current gohan just because he achieved his dream.
Thank you for saying your take on it, I liked hearing what you had to say and actually agree with a lot of your points. However, I don't feel like it was because he was trying to become his Dad but because he didn't have the luxury of having peaceful times and getting to study or go to school. With Goku and almost everyone else dead he had a responsibility with his power to protect the earth and trunks from the androids, and that's the character of his aspect I like so much. Current Gohan is of course stronger than Future Gohan but it's more his character and personality, not his actual strength that I think is wasted potential. And I want to make this clear I am actually a fan of current Gohan and think his character is very nuanced and interesting, I just also think there was a lot of times throughout the show that he was not handled correctly and could've been an amazing character is he was focused on more
He's actually alright with fighting as shown in the end of Superhero, it's also said that he DOES train from time to time, but not as often as the rest. He's just more interested in living his life rather than sparring all the time, but he doesn't absolutely HATE it or anything.
Future Gohan is probably one of the coolest characters ever. Future Trunks is also so amazing, both of these characters are done dirty in the main timeline. The only small issue with future Gohan, is the power inconsistency, if he had the potential all along, as a small teen to go super Saiyan 2, and beat perfect cell, then in a desolate future where everyone is being killed, he has the potential to take on some androids, who aren't even as strong as semi perfect cell, which was getting bodied by super Saiyan grade 2. Put more simply, if when push comes to shove, he had the potential as a teen to go super sayian 2, then in the push come to shove future, future Gohan absolutely has the potential to body 17 & 18.
I think that was mainly for story reasons but I get what you're saying, I can't remember correctly but I think they do explain it. I think he does get to train or go to the time chamber or smth because everyone died before he knew it was possible or could train etc but i could be wrong and it was just for story reasons lol
Gohan had always fought to protect everyone he cares, that is literally the only reason he fights at all, except when he was a child, when he was forced to by the most horrible events a 4 yo could witness, no wonder he didnt want to become Goku 2
@@HiddenSH_ If not majin vegeta taking the dub against buu then surely gohan against buu. He did say he was there to "kill" him. But ends up playing around instead.
Goku was meant to be our hero from day 1 if you follow him from OG Dragonball. AT realized that at the end and gave us back Goku. Of course if Gohan ended up finishing the Buu arc like a badass and Goku stayed dead that would have been cool too but more depressing.
@@renmojito6796Majin Vegeta would make the whole arc end so abruptly, same with Gohan. Wether you feel like someone else should've killed buu please look at the narrative of the story and realize it was never meant to be for one guy to beat buu, everyone had to
@@young_shaad5227 You're only basing it on how the story played out and not how the story could of played out. Let me spin this story to you a different way. Do you know who the main villain of the cell arc was? it was gero, before toryama was asked to make a new main villain. Then they made 17+18 and then he was asked again to make a better villain. Fastfoward to Cell, those transformations were also something asked of him to improve cell. Majin vegeta definitely could of killed buu with this in mind. In fact, who said he had to of killed buu right at that particular scene?
@@HiddenSH_ No, I meant as a character he's made specifically for the timeline he exists in and the role he fulfills in the story. He was shaped by the events of his timeline. If you want to see what would happen if you put him in the main timeline you only need to look at Shadow the Hedgehog.
@@mksmike Yeah that's true, the reason our Gohan is different is because he never went through what Future Gohan did that forced him to become the person he became
What if Future Gohan just kept training after losing his arm, and this resulted in him developing some kind of ghost arm or whatever. But he's become so used to living with one arm that he doesn't really need to use two arms. But then, a fight gets serious and he uses this ghost arm ability. And it turns out that two arms make him so powerful, like Beast Gohan or Broly levels of power. Pros for this: 1. It would give us a really cool disabled character. 2. This would make it so Future Gohan isn't held back by his disability. Two arms would make certain things easier for him, but he doesn't _need_ to use two arms and he's still perfectly capable with just one arm. 3. He might even prefer using one arm to this ghost arm form. This part really just depends on how he's written. They don't even _need_ to give Future Gohan an arm replacement. Point is, they should lean in to how Gohan's lack of lefty doesn't hold him back. Now, how to bring back Future Gohan? Dragon Ball Heroes did something like that, where there's a version of Future Gohan who failed to save Future Trunks and became the Warrior in Black. But what about mainline Dragon Ball? This is a series with wish-granting dragons, time travel, and universe-hopping dieties. Anything is possible. Maybe Zamasu's meddling with alternate futures caused another divergence where Future Gohan lives. There's definitely some kind of fanfiction out there that explores this.
Yeah in Dragon Ball anything is possible, but this is a super interesting theory and I'm sure there is some fan fic or just story about this kind of thing! Makes me kind of interested, maybe I should make a video about some kind of fan theory's or smth about Future Gohan or something etc
I think people who say gohan fell off should remember, gohan never wanted to be a fighter, not at least like his father. He has severe trauma as a kid because of fighting too, like radditz, the saiyans, ginyu force, and cell. It's a wonder he's not just an absolute pacifist. But he still wants to get stronger and likes fighting to beat bad guys and protect the good people, he literally was training and admitted to it that he did in the super hero movie, but in his own way. He studied transformations and worked on his own self while practicing new moves in secret, that's why he was able to reach his beast transformation and use his own new special beam cannon to take down cell max. After all, he did say he wants to evolve and get stronger in his own way.
I do like Gohan's character and I don't think he fell off he is just different and I do think that's a good thing to have in Dragon Ball, but after showing how cool Future Gohan was it just sucks we cant have more of that yk
To me, Future Gohan WAS the wasted potential. He was someone who was forced into doing something he hated doing, someone who failed to save the world he swore to protect, someone who was miserable the whole time, who got surpassed by another version of him who was way younger under more favourable conditions. Future Gohan, was a failure. The OG Gohan on the other hand, grew up to be an amazing scholar, actually doing what he wanted to do. He had a family and raised a daughter, he's happy! There's other ways to achieve your potential other than becoming stronger, but even if that's all you focus on, by the time OG Gohan reached Future Gohan's age, he surpassed him a million times over. If you wanna see where that 'potential' got Future Gohan in another alternate timeline, look at Super Dragon Ball Heroes Ultra God Mission
Btw, when Gohan comes back to fight Super Buu I think fans thought, alright, he did arrive, and would've been good with him wrapping it up but then he was absorbed....he was teased so much to have little payoff. I also don't think it has to be a binary choice either; he could've learned to chase his passions but also have the responsibility of protecting the Earth as well
The fact his potential was wasted makes him such a great character it shows how easy his life could have been but instead he stood up to face the androids and die fighting for what he believes in
I do agree that Gohan SHOULD HAVE become the main protagonist of the series after the cell saga and that his character was somewhat wasted in the buu saga and onwards. However, recently, many people including myself have come to realize that Gohan, who spent his entire childhood fighting for his life and watching those closest to him die right in front of him deserved to have a normal life- yk, go to school, start a family, and achieve his dream of becoming a scholar. Do I think his happy ending could have been executed better? Yes, having Gohan as the main character and watching him earn that happy ending would’ve been great. Do I think he still deserves at least a little peace after having an arguably terrible childhood? Absolutely.
Btw. Just putting some thoughts before finishing the video, will edit when I finish watching the video: Future Gohan COULD NOT INDEED get to achieve his "Full Potential" like mentioned in 2:29 BECAUSE HE HAD TO BE IN CONSTANT HIDING AND FIGHTING WHEN HE WAS FORCED TO FIGHT TILL HE GOT TO TEACH TRUNKS AND GET HIS HOPES UP OF DEFEATING THE ANDROIDS...and ending up being defeated, since he was the last fighter, with NO guidence past Gokus death, having to learn EVERYTHING on his own, just to be able to even begin being able to defend himself and hopefully others...also...in a such Apocalyptic situation without proper food, water or any meaningful supplies that could have helped him grow easily and also without distress,no wonder Gohan was tense and not as powerful, since he could have neither properly rest nor grow like our timelines Gohan could in the ROST when he was training with Goku during the Cell saga...(I'll add more after watching rhe video) Anyhow...I don't dislike the Librarian Gohan, who got what he always wanted, after having been basically forced into WAR since the age of 4...I.e. NO WONDER he ended up being a Librarian or whatever after having grown up through constant wars he'd been forced into...THOUGH...I'm dissapounted the Super writers kinda COMPLETELY dropped Gohan and basically put him BEHIND ALL THE SIDE CHARACTERS...instead of giving him at least some more time to start accepting his Saiyan side, instead of having to do only human stuff to avoid being a Saiyan,so in the end if he would have gotten to accept his both sides...he then could have gotten to unlock Beast,as the perfect example of balance between his human and Saiyan sides whereby the power could have just given him the amount of power to be able to defend himself and everyone he loves when everything would have fallen onto him, basically being the ace up his sleeve for the worst case scenarios...and it could have been poetic... Also...I LOVE FUTURE GOHAN...and I'm sad that we never got to see him live a comfortable nor a life he wanted, because he was, just like and unlike OUR Gohan, forced into basically constant WAR,since the age of 4...BUT the unlike part being, that he didn't get to live in peace like our Gohan did after Cell,so he was forced to continue being a Soldier for not only himself but the ones he loved, but for the World as a whole, since everyone else had already fallen, which also maked him a CHAD,for not letting his human side take over and shrivel into a featal position, crying like Supers Gohan would...but because he understood the task nd did wharever he could and even his death wasn't in vain, since at least his orher self had gotten the Chance to live a life he wanted...which basically ended up bwing a lot...so...yes...he was wasted, but in an ok way...that was and still is sad af...
I personally find it interesting that Gohan doesn’t want to fight. In the sense it’s tragic that F gohan has to fight for the rest of his life and fire everyone else when that’s the last thing he would want to do.I wish that was shown more in current Gohan where he has to push his limits to keep people safe rather than rely on Goku or vegita.
Future Gohan was the way he was out of necessity. Because if he hadn’t been like that, he’d have died a lot sooner along with everybody else he was trying to protect. Book worm Gohan went to school and tried building a future for himself, because the world was at peace with no threat in sight. Even if he’d have trained his ass off during peace times to maintain his full potential as a fighter just for the sake of it, that just wouldn’t be Gohan. The compelling thing about future Gohan, is where his drive comes from. It’s not pride as a warrior, or a desire to get stronger just for the sake of getting stronger. He’s fighting for the hope of creating peace. He’s fighting for his fucking life. And by extension, the lives of everyone threatened by the androids. Expecting Cell Games Gohan to train like there’s a brewing war over his head for his entire teen years? That’s a lot to put on a kid, half-alien, or otherwise.
Future Gohan should've been the wake up call for all the z fighters. Regardless of how his story ended, his premise is the worst scenario. No Goku or Vegeta, no more dragonball miracles or asspulls. Just one half sayian trying to protect what's left of the world from two enemies too strong for him to overcome. That timeline needed to be a constant fear in the minds of everyone. Anything could happen with these gods and bigger stakes, anyone who can fight can't afford to slack and rely on the two main stars. Gohan knows about this timeline and he should always keep that in mind to keep himself from getting weak, he can't be weak because if something goes down he needs to be capable of helping. Even if he sees fighting as a burden, he knows with great power comes great responsibility.
The ironic part is Trunks is the reason why he became a student When trunks went back in time and gave Goku the antidote for the heart virus he essentially gave Gohan a reason to be weak because with his father around he had no reason to continue training
@@HiddenSH_ iirc, Toriyama's original intent with the post-Cell series was for Gohan to be the main character. However, the story he wrote following the time skip made him less likable than he had been during the Cell Games, so he brought Goku back. Later, when he gave Gohan the Ultimate powerup against Super Buu, he was trying to bring Gohan back again, but much more quickly gave it up and just brought back Goku... again. Toriyama is known to be an adhoc writer, never *really* planning things ahead, so for him to just suddenly abandon a plan of his and do something different isn't unexpected, and honestly isn't unprecedented. Androids 17 and 18 were only thought up because an editor said 19 and 20 were fucking stupid. Likewise with Cell, an editor insisted imperfect and semiperfect Cell were ugly, and forced Toriyama to hurry up and reveal the following transformation.
I wouldnt call Ace "wasted potential" When I hear that phrase, it gives the impression a character was mishandled. Ace's "wasted potential" was entirely the point of his death. It's the talented, main character energy brother of Luffy being snuffed out too early and the world reacting to the death of Gol D Rodger's son and White Beard confirming the existence of the One Piece. We may feel like we wanted more Ace in the show, but in the end he served his narrative purpose
I actually don't I really like Gohan and his character is really well written, I just think Future Gohan is sick and super admirable for protecting the planet despite losing everyone he loved
@@HiddenSH_ in the video, you chalk it up to "Future gohan is a chad and new timeline gohan is a bitch" You are very clearly disappointed that Gohan is the life of peace he has wanted since he was kidnapped by Raditz when he just learned how to think. Original timeline gohan is the worst thing that couldve happened to him AND you gassed him up. 17 and 18 could have killed him if they took him seriously, but he kept escaping within an inch of his life. He isn't even as cool as you say he is.
Is this guy forgetting that the gohan from trunks timeline isn't that same as the main dbz timeline? Future Gohan didn't reach ss2 cause he never met cell. The androids in the dbz timeline were stronger than future trunks cyborgs
The future timeline is probably the most tragic and my favorite timeline of dragon ball and I love both future trunks and future gohan And gohan not bieng main character happened precisely because most fans at that time were mad about goku's death and wanted him back. The fans that came afterwards understood that passing the torch to gohan would have been a better choice.
Gohans character could be excellent if used consistently in dire circumstances but he can't always have the spotlight on him because gohans character isn't good to be the main character every arc in dragon ball but for serious arcs I'd say yeah
I completely agree, I think Gohan could've been such an amazing character if he was focused on and done correctly but unfortunately there was so many times where he was pushed to the way side because he wasn't the mc
It speaks to the immaturity of a person when they spout this kind of nonsense about Gohan's "wasted potential." It really comes from the misunderstanding of Gohan's character as a whole. Gohan is by nature a pacifist. From infancy he never wanted to fight anything but has constantly been thrown into the harshest battles. Future Gohan is my favorite DBZ character but Future Gohan's story is not one of a glorious warrior as you say it is but a tragedy where someone who never wanted to fight had to fight for 13+ years alone to save the ones he love. Adult Gohan(not Future Gohan) is what the Z-fighters fought for: the freedom and peace to do what they want to do with their lives. Future Trunks understands this as he encounters Gohan living a normal life and finds purpose. Sure Goku (and Vegeta) might be disappointed with where Gohan turned out to be, but I am sure you (or most people) didn't turned out the way your parents want you to be or where they thought your potential lied. The way you said "studying is cringe" really says otherwise. You say Gohan ran like a coward, but I need to remind you that Gohan was there in every arc of the story so I dunno what you are getting at there.
I don't like this belief of Gohan's whole character being a pacifist by nature because before Cell and Gohan's talk about not wanting to fight, his entire character pointed towards the opposite of him not wanting to fight, sure you can say he has trauma but that trauma should be about not fighting and then bad things happening not about fighting is bad and him not wanting to fight. This characteristic of Gohan was literally shown in the first two arcs of Z when he sees what happens if he doesn't fight i.e Piccolo sacrificing his life for Gohan not to mention everyone he knows dying one by one when he doesn't fight properly and then he literally yells at his mother to shut up and let him go to Namek and then the next time he sees someone getting killed that is the namekians and when Dende is about to get killed he snaps and punches Dodoria into a house to save Dende and I don't know about you but that doesn't very pacifistic since the definition of a pacifist is someone who thinks that fighting and war are wrong. Gohan isn't a pacifist by nature and he never was and if you want to compare him to a real pacifist then look up "Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi" or better known as "Gandhi" who in case you didn't know is a real person and a true pacifist, Gohan only got retconned into being a "pacifist" in the Cell saga because Toriyama wanted him to be the main character going forward and he was tired of writing Dragon Ball as a serious battle oriented manga and he wanted to go back to the way he wrote OG Dragon Ball which was much more light hearted and adventurous and if you don't believe me just watch the transition in tone from the cell saga to the highschool part of the buu saga it was a literal 180 in tone. So he retconned Gohan's character but after that failed and Goku got his mc status back Gohan's character remained ruined. Sure you're not wrong about Gohan's nature being one more of a pacifist than a fighter but that only applies to the current Gohan not his character as a whole and just because it got retconned doesn't mean that what happened before didn't happen. So this belief that Gohan is a pacifist is just an illusion created by Toriyama to make it so he doesn't have to write such a serious battle manga and since Toriyama did make that change I can't disagree that current Gohan is a "pacifist" but if we're looking at his character as a whole meaning from the time we were introduced to him in his early childhood to until now then that's a whole different story.
What I wish is that Gohan got his arm back and went into the main timeline and fused with his counterpart creating the perfect balance between the two.
I read the manga and in one part after Cell's arc, Akira actually mentions that Gohan was going to be the main character after Goku but he brought Goku back to life because the fans wanted him back as the main character and were sad that he had died
I don’t remember where I heard this from but I heard someone say the reason Future Gohan wasn’t as powerful as he should’ve been was a combination of the loss of his arm and the fact that he could NEVER fully relax his life had to become being always on guard and training to defeat the androids and even back in the original Dragon Ball goku was taught the importance of resting between training as a child, if Future Gohan was able to use the Room of Spirit and Time even if it was just to relax for a while and then train with Trunks as well I could see him and trunks easily beating the androids
Initially Toriyama wanted Gohan tu succeed Goku. That's why teen Gohan was the one defeated Cell. But fans at the time still wanted Goku as the protagonist. In the end, Toriyama had to push Gohan to the side to become a bookworm. WE HAVE BEEN ROBBED!
It was, but the unfortunate thing is that they made Gohan's character a bit docile. The High School arc wasn't popular and was a bit slow which is why Toriyama switched back to Goku.
Don’t let the anime fool you. Future Gohan was weak AF in the manga. The anime tried to give him a bit to work with but since the original manga was the creator’s truest intention for future Gohan; we must agree that he was shown as fodder.
Future Gohan got the 6 ft anime MC curse. For the people who don't know: There seems to be an unspoken rule in anime where any male lead who's 6 ft or beyond will either be killed off, made irrelevant if alive, if still alive and important, won't appear on screen that much or replaced by below 6 ft MCs Most likely the case with the 6 ft male protags and if an anime with a 6 ft MC doesn't comply to these rules, they stop getting promoted, no matter how popular they were, like Fist of the North Star and City Hunter. Not saying all of this can't happen with below 6 ft male MCs but compared to the taller ones, the difference is much, much more jarring. Just do a quick research of all the dead 6 ft and beyond anime male MCs vs the below 6 ft ones. You'll see the difference Japan seems to have a phobia for 6 ft or taller characters. Its like they think that if a male MC's above 181 cm tall, they won't be able to relate with them and strive to be like them cuz they "can't be that tall" Theres a reason why most, if not all anime, have below 6 ft male MCs and yes. 5'11/2 counts as being below 6 ft too. These heights are pretty much the same to the naked eyes but as long as theyre OFFICIALLY below 6 ft, they'll pass for the Japanese audience. As long as you're below 6 ft in anime, you can be impaled through your entire body with the biggest thickest rod and still find a way to live The good news is, this stigma seems to be slowly changing cuz there have actually been 2 male MCs from Japanese franchises recently who're 6 ft or taller, Jin from Tekken 8 n Luke from Street Fighter 6 and mind you, these 2 franchises are among the biggest fighting game franchises, a big risk from a business standpoint considering the Japanese market 1st. Maybe this implies that even the devs are slowly becoming tired of pandering to the insecurities of their Japanese market and wanna go forward with their dreams of making franchises with big strong male MCs, like the west does. Only time will tell, and I hope thats the case cuz if it is, Japan might quite possibly be breaking through one of it's biggest insecurities
The whole point Trunks traveled to the past, was, to prevent Gohan from having to live the life he had in the future. Gohan becoming a scholar is a realization of that dream. In times of peace, there was no need or reason for Gohan to become the character he became in Trunk’s future. After defeating Cell, mind you, being much stronger than the Androids in the future timeline, Earth became peaceful. That is why he takes the mantle of a “super hero”. And that would is an excellent call back for the recently released DBS SuperHero where Gohan, fights these so-called heroes, after himself became one. I believe we got to see exactly what you mean when he becomes Beast, as that saiyan thirst awakens as well as it did when he went SSJ2 against Cell. Gohan is Earth’s protector, as when Earth is in danger, he will always rise to the occasion, as he’s proved multiple times. Clean vid ✌️ Happy momma’s day
all these characters aren't wasted potential. Sure they are fan favorites and they die off, but its to give the Shonen hero a reason to fight or give them a new transformation. or to create a villian.
do you not think that's wasted potential tho? Character's who are amazing and loved by fans but just get killed off to give the mc a reason to power up or a new transformation, that seems like a waste of a character to me
Gohan fumbles the ball so many times. Cell future Gohan dabura and even super Buu. Dude messes up all the time Future Gohan if he was smarter would have ran to Mr popo to get the chamber training. We know senzu beans still exist. Especially manga version where trunks was already a super Saiyan. One chamber training session with as many senzu beans as possible and these two would have been able to take on the androids cell and even dabura with ease.
5:35 I mean future Gohan is cool AF, but my complain is the part of his powers because if he had the potential to beat perfect Cell, years battling the Androids would have give him more than enough experience and training to defeat them, I mean, are not the sayayins suppose to be a race that gets stronger each time their face and survive powerful enemies? so with all the time Future Gohan fought with the Androids he was bound to defeat them sooner than later... I hope to see one day an alternative universe Gohan who had defeat the Androids and even Manjin Buu by himself. XD
you think that toriyama viewed himself as what he wanted to be in goku and that gohan was studying to be a student as a representation of toyotarou sitting behind toriyama (his elder and mentor)... maybe... JUST MAYBE, gohan will take lead?
Honestly, while I agree that Gohan was wasted potential as a whole in Dragon Ball, saying that Future Gohan is a tease of how strong Gohan could of become fundamentally misses the tragedy of Future Gohan as a a character. He was forced to watch his friends die at the hands of the artificial humans, and was forced to be the only fighter who could hold them back for YEARS until Trunks shows up (at which point he gets killed by the artificial humans). He never even gets to reach his full potential of Super Saiyan 2 and beyond, and he is overall miserable. While the normal timeline has Gohan constantly get undermined by the stronger characters (Goku and Vegeta to be exact), we often forget that he achieved his dreams of becoming a great scholar, he started a family that he loves with all his heart, and his friends and family are all still alive, and he's a happier and more fulfilled person. He even gets to reach SS2, Potential Unleased, and Beast form in the current timeline. While it's disappointing to see him constantly be undermined and thrown to the wayside in the story, I can't help be glad that Gohan is living his best life, and we shouldn't forget that as Dragon Ball fans.
I think your thinking of the english dub, since Future Gohan still keeps his mannerisms that make him sound different from Goku in the Japanese dub like normal Gohan
Bro I dunno what you are talking about, although nerd Gohan is annoying asf since he doesn't fight a lot and doesn't have the balance between nerdiness and fighting, Gohan always fought to help and save his closed ones and earth. And after super hero which was a sort of redemption for Gohan, we will prolly see Gohan if Toyotaro does continue the writing the series. Gohan's potential is almost full unleashed (no pun intended), his peak was between Frieza saga and Cell saga. Gohan wants to protect others like Goku, Gohan also wants to be a scholar. Even if super had him going through a dark downfall, he got some redemption in super hero. You said future Gohan fights a one sided battle, but also kid Gohan fought a one sided battle against Recoome in the Frieza saga knowing the odds of winning are almost zero.
I agree with you it's not Gohan's fault and I don't think the one we have at current is bad, I just think like you said in Super and some other moments throughout the show his character was handled very badly and I see it as wasted potential as they literally showed us the model for his character that all the fans already universally loved
Yeah it sucks future gohan never reached his full potential but thats literally the god damn point tho. Trunks future is literally supposed to always be depressing no matter what. Trunks future never gets q happy ending his future literally gets erased by xeno. Future gohan is my favorite gohan and his story was told to show how bleak trunks future is.
To be fair current gohan was never gonna be like future gohan at all. It makes sense cause future gohan is a different timeline version of gohan, it’s like I travel to a different timeline and see a female version of me we might have similar characteristic but we’d be our own characters at the end of the day.
Future Gohan is the person Chichi was afraid of Gohan turning into
That is true, it's what she was trying to avoid the whole time
I say bs because future gohan never got the real training.. look at the android/cell arc that time chamber training was to make gohan the main character. But people didnt want it.
@ yeah people didn’t want to let go of Goku, and I get that but it would’ve been interesting to see future gohan.
We never got future gohan because they wanted to dumb down Goku as if he was Ash from Pokèmon.
yeah, fans ruin my boy Gohan's future
at least Toriyama had the last laugh and made Gohan the strongest before passing away, since that was his main idea
@@HCMS71 Future gohan definitely had one of the best designs imo
@@HCMS71you have 0 idea what you’re talking about. toriyama killed gohans character in the buy saga because he realized the asspull of making him a pacifist wouldn’t fit him as the mc. and even then, Toriyama’s endgame for gohan has always been for him to wear glasses and become weak. in end of z its literally nerdhan in a different outfit. meaning gohan after beast will stop training AGAIN before super ends.
@@kewpiesensei Gohan was killed by the fans. You dumb dumb 😂
This is like... I dunno even what to say, just, good writing-
I'm literally not sure what to say-
this is super insightful
Underrated comment
The writters beat the shit out of Gohan, then he says he's gonna train to become stronger, proceeds to get his ass beat again, and repeat,
What I wish we had was a middle-ground between Future Gohan and librarian Gohan, a character who loves studying and spending time with his family, but is willing to spend some time keeping up with the higher ups of the verse and actually be able to protect his family.
@@NightRyder19 That’s so FACTSSSS HE WAS STANDING ON BUSINESS FOR YEARS WITH NO HELP MY GOAT
I don't see why Gohan couldn't be a mix of both a super badass but also likes his books
Thats what he was during the great saiyaman arc, a breath of fresgmh air. Should have continued that way. Db lost that core family aspect that dbz had
That's not an interesting story. So keep coping.

And I want to make this clear I am actually a fan of current Gohan and think his character is very nuanced and interesting, I just also think there was a lot of times throughout the show that he was not handled correctly and could've been an amazing character is he was focused on more
Make it simple everyone is dead and he doesnt even know the hth or gc exists
He's actually alright with fighting as shown in the end of Superhero, it's also said that he DOES train from time to time, but not as often as the rest. He's just more interested in living his life rather than sparring all the time, but he doesn't absolutely HATE it or anything.
It's so funny that the entirety of DBZ is set up to introduce Gohan as the face of the franchise, and they just give up halfway through the Buu arc.
Yeah idk if it was the fans, the writer or even the publisher but for whatever reason they completely changed their minds
Future Gohan… badassery incarnate. Vegeta would’ve respected him even more than the current Gohan.
Gohan really do be out here getting an education and people trashing him for it 😭
Tbh what has that so called education gotten him? Chi Chi put that in his head. I bet he had more fun not studying
I know they saw what the Ginyu force did to him right no wonder he doesn't like to fight he got his neck broken when he was like 8 or 5
Bro got an education with the ability to blow up planets casually. Nobody give a damn about them bugs Gohan get your ass in the time chamber
Now that he has beast form and can almost rival his fathers power again, nobody is trashing him anymore
"I can't save the galaxy I have a conference"
Gohan had always fought to protect everyone he cares, that is literally the only reason he fights at all, except when he was a child, when he was forced to by the most horrible events a 4 yo could witness, no wonder he didnt want to become Goku 2

There's no excuse mystic gohan didn't kill buu
you think Gohan should've been the one to kill buu?
You know he's probably perfect precisely because he wasn't given to us.
That's also true, we often want what we can't have.
Pros for this:
Makes me kind of interested, maybe I should make a video about some kind of fan theory's or smth about Future Gohan or something etc
future gohan got unlimited rights to become a multi-versal super villain
You earned a bloody sub mate, love these
I think people who say gohan fell off should remember, gohan never wanted to be a fighter, not at least like his father.
What's crazy to think about is, the timeline tried to repeat itself again in Superhero. Future Gohan should've had the Beast treatment.
If you wanna see where that 'potential' got Future Gohan in another alternate timeline, look at Super Dragon Ball Heroes Ultra God Mission
honestly i would be screaming in the bar or where ever future gohan popped on screen
Everyone who is a fan of Future Gohan would be right there with you

THANK YOU!!! I really appreciate the nice comment :)
Btw, when Gohan comes back to fight Super Buu I think fans thought, alright, he did arrive, and would've been good with him wrapping it up but then he was absorbed....he was teased so much to have little payoff. I also don't think it has to be a binary choice either; he could've learned to chase his passions but also have the responsibility of protecting the Earth as well
Yeah I agree I think they could've handle Gohan way better throughout the series
The fact his potential was wasted makes him such a great character it shows how easy his life could have been but instead he stood up to face the androids and die fighting for what he believes in
I agree with you, that's what makes his character so amazing and why I wish we could've got more screen time with him
people who are here after future gohan dropped at sparking zero😢😢
Ultra instinct Gohan would’ve been the heatest heat 😭😭😭😭
Omg that would've been so heat
Absolutely.
Gohan is the Lil Bow Wow of anime; he was a vet in the game before he was in high school💀

THANK YOU BROTHER!! I appreciate that so much, One Piece videos coming soon the GOAT
Btw. Just putting some thoughts before finishing the video, will edit when I finish watching the video:
Future Gohan COULD NOT INDEED get to achieve his "Full Potential" like mentioned in 2:29 BECAUSE HE HAD TO BE IN CONSTANT HIDING AND FIGHTING WHEN HE WAS FORCED TO FIGHT TILL HE GOT TO TEACH TRUNKS AND GET HIS HOPES UP OF DEFEATING THE ANDROIDS...and ending up being defeated, since he was the last fighter, with NO guidence past Gokus death, having to learn EVERYTHING on his own, just to be able to even begin being able to defend himself and hopefully others...also...in a such Apocalyptic situation without proper food, water or any meaningful supplies that could have helped him grow easily and also without distress,no wonder Gohan was tense and not as powerful, since he could have neither properly rest nor grow like our timelines Gohan could in the ROST when he was training with Goku during the Cell saga...(I'll add more after watching rhe video)
Anyhow...I don't dislike the Librarian Gohan, who got what he always wanted, after having been basically forced into WAR since the age of 4...I.e.
The sad truth is, I feel that wasted potential just can never be avoided...
Nope, Sad for YOU!
I agree with you 100% I just personally really liked the character of Future Gohan and would've loved to see more of him
wish you could see my face when I realized you only had 100 subs dude keep this up great video
Brilliant! First time viewer and I'm already subbing!
THANK YOU!! As a small creator that means a lot hearing that, I'm really glad you liked the video!!
W video, good job!
The ironic part is Trunks is the reason why he became a student
When trunks went back in time and gave Goku the antidote for the heart virus he essentially gave Gohan a reason to be weak because with his father around he had no reason to continue training
So many good points made, it really should’ve been Gohan to take the lead and begin a new chapter in the dragon franchise
I think he could've and it would've been very interesting but they decided not to go in that direction
I wouldnt call Ace "wasted potential"
When I hear that phrase, it gives the impression a character was mishandled.
God I love future Gohan
just say you hate gohan, if he dont want to fight he dont have to future gohan is the worst you could wish upon that character
Excellent video!
Is this guy forgetting that the gohan from trunks timeline isn't that same as the main dbz timeline? Future Gohan didn't reach ss2 cause he never met cell. The androids in the dbz timeline were stronger than future trunks cyborgs
I know it's not the same Gohan, my point was a lot of people including me wanted Gohan to be more like Future Gohan because hes so cool
Actually people were mad... that's literally why goku survived namek AND came back in the buu saga...
The future timeline is probably the most tragic and my favorite timeline of dragon ball and I love both future trunks and future gohan
And gohan not bieng main character happened precisely because most fans at that time were mad about goku's death and wanted him back.
Gohan and Uub would have an interesting conversation together.
Tough times create tough men
It speaks to the immaturity of a person when they spout this kind of nonsense about Gohan's "wasted potential." It really comes from the misunderstanding of Gohan's character as a whole.
That “was a beast” line was such a missed opportunity
Future Gohans life is what it would’ve been had he been the MC 😭
guess we can just pray tenkaichi 4 would have a what if for this
What is the point on putting in captions for brief moments and then not for the rest of the video? Why do UA-camrs do that?
What I wish is that Gohan got his arm back and went into the main timeline and fused with his counterpart creating the perfect balance between the two.
Beast gohan?
At least we managed to get beast form Gohan 😂
Yeah I agree Beast Gohan does look sick
Dele Ali catching strays in a DB video T-T
LMAOOOO my bad Dele Ali
Watch gohan get the future gohan moment in like twenty chapters from now
And it probably won't be possible to bring Gohan in that light ever again.
I read the manga and in one part after Cell's arc, Akira actually mentions that Gohan was going to be the main character after Goku but he brought Goku back to life because the fans wanted him back as the main character and were sad that he had died
Yes, had Akira done what he wanted, dragin ball z would have been so much better. It would have been unsurpassed, the best
Yeah it was said that the plan was to make Gohan the MC but he went back on it unfortunately
His face looks alot like guts face during this moment 1:34
“Struggler indeed”
Initially Toriyama wanted Gohan tu succeed Goku. That's why teen Gohan was the one defeated Cell. But fans at the time still wanted Goku as the protagonist. In the end, Toriyama had to push Gohan to the side to become a bookworm. WE HAVE BEEN ROBBED!
I think it was Toriyama's idea to make Gohan the next protagonist after Goku, but fans just kept asking for his return
My point wasn't that he was stronger than Gohan, it was just that I prefer Future Gohan more
Soundtrack at 5:30?
Future Gohan is the greatest stoic in DBZ
Future Gohan got the 6 ft anime MC curse. For the people who don't know:
There seems to be an unspoken rule in anime where any male lead who's 6 ft or beyond will either be killed off, made irrelevant if alive, if still alive and important, won't appear on screen that much or replaced by below 6 ft MCs
Most likely the case with the 6 ft male protags and if an anime with a 6 ft MC doesn't comply to these rules, they stop getting promoted, no matter how popular they were, like Fist of the North Star and City Hunter. Not saying all of this can't happen with below 6 ft male MCs but compared to the taller ones, the difference is much, much more jarring.
Just do a quick research of all the dead 6 ft and beyond anime male MCs vs the below 6 ft ones. You'll see the difference
Japan seems to have a phobia for 6 ft or taller characters. Its like they think that if a male MC's above 181 cm tall, they won't be able to relate with them and strive to be like them cuz they "can't be that tall"
Theres a reason why most, if not all anime, have below 6 ft male MCs and yes. 5'11/2 counts as being below 6 ft too. These heights are pretty much the same to the naked eyes but as long as theyre OFFICIALLY below 6 ft, they'll pass for the Japanese audience. As long as you're below 6 ft in anime, you can be impaled through your entire body with the biggest thickest rod and still find a way to live
The good news is, this stigma seems to be slowly changing cuz there have actually been 2 male MCs from Japanese franchises recently who're 6 ft or taller, Jin from Tekken 8 n Luke from Street Fighter 6 and mind you, these 2 franchises are among the biggest fighting game franchises, a big risk from a business standpoint considering the Japanese market 1st.
Clean vid
✌️
Happy momma’s day
all these characters aren't wasted potential.
Dude messes up all the time
Future Gohan if he was smarter would have ran to Mr popo to get the chamber training. We know senzu beans still exist.
Especially manga version where trunks was already a super Saiyan. One chamber training session with as many senzu beans as possible and these two would have been able to take on the androids cell and even dabura with ease.
Future Gohan was gritty and cool. What a waste.
That's what many people thought and were hoping was gonna happen after the cell arc, but things didn't quite play out like that
@@HiddenSH_ yeah but toriyama is gone now
@@withered962 RIP
What’s the song ?
The Gohan TikTok one?
@@HiddenSH_no haha the one at 0:15
Honestly, while I agree that Gohan was wasted potential as a whole in Dragon Ball, saying that Future Gohan is a tease of how strong Gohan could of become fundamentally misses the tragedy of Future Gohan as a a character.
How do you only have 244 subscribers dude
inazuma eleven music used, instant like
Future Gohan also sounds more like goku while Present Gohan sounds like what he'd sound like if he's a nerd.
I think your thinking of the english dub, since Future Gohan still keeps his mannerisms that make him sound different from Goku in the Japanese dub like normal Gohan
Sees beast..
LMAO.... beast gohan is gonna be amazing and probably saved Gohan's character but I still want Future Gohan he was awesome!
Why does future Gohan look so different.
Where was goku talking to king kai
I don't agree with a lot from this video, but I really liked Future Gohan 🥹
Doesn’t he come back in dragon ball heroes as black warrior?
Yeah I believe he does make an appearance
The amount of shit future gohan gets just because "he wasn't strong enough and was so weak" is diabolical.
he was givin a good fight to the androids tho he really only died cause he got hanged up on if there were only one android he probably coulda survived
Toriyama wanted to give fans future Gohan, but the fans ruined Gohans future. Everything after cell saga or vuu saga should ve retconned
Gohan is not a warrior and he doesn’t like fighting
very true, that is what makes his character so good, he is a saiyan a warrior race but he is compassionate and more like a human than any other saiyan
I think ace is purposely a wasted potential because Luffy needed a traumatic death to become stronger
To be fair current gohan was never gonna be like future gohan at all. It makes sense cause future gohan is a different timeline version of gohan, it’s like I travel to a different timeline and see a female version of me we might have similar characteristic but we’d be our own characters at the end of the day.
while I do think he has wasted potential
we got to remember he is HALF-SAIYAN
