Rep Raskin explained to his family that he had a duty to certify the vote for Biden and could not stay with the family. His daughter responded by accompanying him to the Capitol so he wasn't alone the day after the funeral. He was separated from his daughter and son in law for hours while the fear and violence was thrust upon them. You can feel Jamie's sense of tremendous belief in our democratic institutions, in our history , and in our Constitution, in this short speech. You can also palpably feel his utter disgust for lies, violence, fraud, criminals, cheats and, of course, for the protoplasm "Donald Trump" and his 'pet chameleon' J. D. Vance! I completely admire and always have admired Jamie Raskin. He can go as high as he wants in politics, and I hope he wants to.

Rep Raskin will NEVER forget the horror that unleashed on Jan 6th. A man who has spent his entire life passionate about civics and tireless hours studying and teaching the Constitution. His daughter and her husband accompanied Rep Raskin to the Capitol on Jan 6th, because the day prior they buried his only son after committing suicide a week earlier. Rep Raskin explained to his family that he had a duty to certify the vote for Biden and could not stay with the family. His daughter responded by accompanying him to the Capitol so he wasn't alone the day after the funeral.
Imagine his heartbreak, angst, and dismay of the sitting president summoning the violent mob to stop the certification. He was separated from his daughter and son in law for hours while the fear and violence was thrust upon them. Miraculously, all three of them were untouched physically, permanently scarred mentally and emotionally.
After they reunited, Rep Raskin told his daughter that it wouldn't be like that for her next visit. She replied, "I don't ever want to come back here again!" Dagger to the heart of a man who eats, sleeps, breaths, and holds sacred the Constitution, democracy, the rule of law, and our institutions. I cannot think of anything more personally lethal than to hear his own child emphatically declare she would never return to the Capitol. Trump gets the credit for that! Sick and unconscionable!
