Great video, simple to remember and follow as cue.

Actually, you lead a turn by looking, facing and leaning down the hill and during this slight upper body rotation, you rotate your pelvis and then your knees. As you take your weight off your downhill foot to balance on your uphill foot, you face down the hill and think of your kneecaps as headlights illuminating your path down the hill.
0:30 When you start a turn as I described above, your shins will be pressed into the tongue of your boots. As the skis continue to make the turn, your knees are still pressing into the tongue and you just happen to be leaning them towards the woods at the end of the turn, but you don't have to think about it. You just have to position yourself correctly to start the turn and go for a ride.
At the start of the turn face down the hill, point your knees down the hill and that's it. The skis make you face across the slope, you don't think about facing across the slope. Like right here. 0:10

For me this is too much of simplification. Ankles are more important than the knees, because the ankles are closer to the skis than the knees. A good edging and steering of the skis must be created by our ankles and our knees just follow this between our ankles and our body.

Janos Koranyi there is not “more important” segment. All segments must work correctly, otherwise the “perfect turn” will not come out. Trying to choose a single segment is a try to make skiing a simpler thing, but skiing is not a simple thing.

@@AldoZorzi I am sorry, but you are wrong. Of course you can decide what is more important than something else. It does not mean that you must leave out the less important thing, I never said that. And so our brain works. We decide for ourselves what is the most important detail for us and we try. If it does not work enough good, we change our mind, maybe we include something less important and then we try again.

@@JanosKoranyi exactly, also the elbow is important for a good turn. If we keep saying that the most important thing are the feet and the ankles we'll keep having bad skiers because without all others segments it's simply impossible to get a good turn. Feet, ankles, knees, hips, torso, shoulders, arms have to do the right thing in the right moment. If a skiers thinks on his ankles only, he can't be a good skier, because other body parts will not do the right thing automatically.

@@AldoZorzi I think you still don´t understand this. No one can learn to make perfect turns from the beginning. Humans does not function like that. Humans can not learn everything all together simultaneously. Instead, we learn step by step. And for this we must decide a priority order of the segments. What my elbow can do for a good ski-turn is much much less interesting than my ankles!! If you don´t agree on this there is no more to discuss for us.

Janos Koranyi this video is about knees. You posted a comment saying: “ankles are more important!”. At what level? Who is the skier this video is addressed to? You can start from what you want: to me, the first body part to learn to move are the hips, because without angulation you can’t keep your balance on outside ski. For you it’s the ankle to keep a good for/aft balance, I guess. But the truth is that at some point you have to manage all your segments in a proper way, and all the segments are necessary for a good turn. This video is about knees, not ankles, not hips, but about knees, that are very important for a turn. So a comment saying “but the ankles...” is a bit useless. Bye.

I wouldn’t teach this to a beginner or intermediate skier; there are many more things going on than simply “knees to trees”.

If you want to get all sciencey about it, there is certainely a lot more going on than just 'knees to trees.' :) This is just a simple cue that may help some people make a simple move. Of course we are all wired differently, so for others it willl be meaningless.

Would you teach this for advanced, expert skiers then? I would not! This video is not really good for anyone.
