"Stand" by Dr. Destiny O. Birdsong

Today we honor the work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and other activists. In this video, Nashville poet and author Dr. Destiny O. Birdsong reads her poem "Stand" in honor of Ernest "Rip" Patton, a Freedom Rider and early member of Nashville's civil rights movement, who died earlier this year.
This reading was recorded at the Civil Rights Room of the Nashville Public Library.
This year’s Let Freedom Sing concert - which celebrates the work of the civil rights movement - is postponed to March 10. Dr. Birdsong will also read this poem there.
