Pembroke Mall in Virginia Beach has been Demalled in preparation for a new mixed use concept. Come see the process from the end of March through the 16th of June.
It feels eerie to see a mall I remember frequenting torn apart. And to see those floor tiles again. They were dark brown although you can barely tell under all the construction dust.
When I was a little girl in the 80s, my dad worked in one of the Pembroke office buildings. Occasionally, he'd pop into the office on a Saturday, and he'd take me along so we could walk around Pembroke Mall afterward. It felt like such a treat! I'm sad to see it go, but I'm glad it's becoming a mixed-use development. Thanks for this great drone footage!
Malls of my youth Pembroke and military circle. When I was in the navy in Chicago, I watched a shopping center enclose itself and now that same mall is now going back to a shopping center again.
Same here. Those were great malls. I loved Pembroke for its China Garden restaurant and arcades, Military Circle for its beautiful Cinemark movie theater. It was a big upgrade back in the day. It used to have a small, kind of dinky theater which had closed down already for a couple years until Cinemark.
What’s sad is since Norfolk increased downtown police presence there hasn’t been any reported violence in MacArthur mall but the damage had already been done.
Glad you enjoyed. No. They didn’t have shops on second. Floor. This appears have been storage where Stein Mart was located. I was surprised when that was opened up.
I’m glad you enjoyed the video. MCM was having problems for years. Especially with maintenance of the building which is a shame. City dropped the ball with good police presence downtown. Since they’ve increased their presence downtown you hear no problems from MacArthur.
Pembroke Mall was one of the final malls I’ve visited in Hampton Roads. Took me almost 17 years of my life to get there. I’m glad that’s being repurposed to a mixed use center. Malls Are My First Love, indeed 🐧
It was a great mall back in the day. Around the Christmas holiday, the decorations were gorgeous! I loved shopping at Pembroke, definitely a huge part of my childhood.
In 2012 I used to play Friday Night Magic during the Innistrad block at Kaboom, across the street from Lynnhaven Mall. I'd shop at the mall, maybe catch a matinee movie and then go draft. I'd make a whole day out of being there. If Lynnhaven ever goes, a part of me will die.
Don't worry, Lynnhaven mall isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Its pretty much full of tenants and every time I've been there lately there has been plenty of shoppers.

It is interesting to see it in this state.

Thanks for your kind words. I hope you’ll check back when I have more content available.
I remember my childhood going back to school shopping at Sears, in the early 80s. Then going to Woolworth for a snack afterwards.
I’m glad you enjoyed. :)
I remember Woolworth and their cafeteria!! They had the best Salisbury steak and grilled cheese platters.

A lot of malls are going this route. Wild.

Gen Z still has Lynnhaven and Greenbrier malls, and a little MacArthur
Sad thing is there's been shooting in all three of those malls
Lynnhaven and Patrick Henry are the thriving ones.

@@DyingRetail sad
@@DyingRetail yea, I forgot about Patrick Henry
So many memories. This is where we shopped in the ‘60s, ‘70s. My parents has a shop in the Loft.
Pembroke had stores on the 2nd floor? I only remember Pembroke from 2004 onwards.

I am curious about the loft? The area that was filmed?
As much as I’m sad to see it go, at least they’re doing something with the mall. MacArthur and military circle have just been left to rot.

Can’t wait to see Downtown Virginia Beach grow!
Into a giant cluster LOL!

Lynnhaven is going strong. :)
This was my family's and then my mall in the 60s and 70s. Worked there in the 70s. Breaks my heart a little to see it go. 😥
Glad you enjoyed the video.
TOTALLY RAD DUDE!!!
Ha ha. Thanks Bro!
❤❤
Thanks for watching.
I have some video from the mall’s last day which I posted on my channel a while back. How is your mom doing? Good I hope!
Thanks for asking. She’s still going strong. Although there are times I feel she’s getting depressed.
