The Defenders - Der Er Lys i Lygten

The Defenders:
The Defenders was formed in 1962. The Defenders' debutsingle was "Just in Case"' but they didn't become popular until 1965. They covered The Hep Stars /The Searchers' "Farmer John" and Jewel Akens'/Alma Cogan's "the Birds and the Bees". Even though these coverversons were not as well-produced as the originals, they were very popular when The Defenders played them live. In 1966 they began singin in Danish, and achieved Danish Top 10 hits with the songs "Der Er Lys I Lygten" and "Jeg Har Aldrig Fået No'et." The latter song reached the no. 1 spot of the charts and actually stayed there the whole of January 1966. Later that same year they performed "En Lille Nisse" in the Rifbjerg movie «Jeg er Sgu Min Egen», The Defenders disbanded a few months later, in April 1968. In 1970 an attempt reform the band failed, even though they made an appearance at the Nyborg Festival the same year. Rudolph Hansen released a soloalbum in 76, produced by Peter Thorup, he also playedwith Savage Rose Nada (80) and Peter Thorup's "Den Benhårde Trio" (87). He was still musically active in The Cliffters, and a much used studio musician when he died in June 2006

The song "Der Er Lys i Lygten (Lille Mor)" ("The Lampost is Lit, Dear Mother") was originally recorded by actor Axel Boesen in 1921. The song was featured in a "revy" called "Solsikken" ("The Sunflower")

Den musikalske kvalitet er godt nok til at overskue. De kan jo knap nok synge rent. Folk må have været nøjsomme i de dage.
