I've watched so many SAS videos but yours is the first to give me the info I wanted simply, like the wifi I was so confused and the pricing everyone else like barley talked about it but u just straight up said how much it costed. So thank you
Would you ever do a “what to pack and what not to pack” video?!
not too much cus your going to buy stuff at each port
Jess Horst has a great video on that and a ton of other great vids on prepping for SAS
im 14 and i really want to do this when im in college
@@vivianp9813 might see me there too!
Me too see y’all there 😌
Same
How old do you have to be
Omg girl same this is my 5 video series about it
and also u should do a haul of u got on sas
the cat just staring at the camera in the back was cracking me up
Even though I am young, I really want to do Semester at Sea!
This was actually the most informative video about sas looking forward to more videos!
how much did you normally spend when y'all would go on port with your friends
Both of my older siblings did SAS and loved it. I am hoping that I will get accepted into SAS when I apply. But I am torn between spring of my sophomore year or spring of my junior year(thankfully I still have some time to decide.)
Hi wish u the best of success! I love the idea of sas but I'm currently in med school and probably will be available at the age of 24/25 so would I be able to attend?
Thanks for the info! Could you maybe make a video on what hook up culture is like on the ship?
i was actually thinking you should make a vid abt that!!
You're so sympathetic and authentic, I love your vlogs!!
I’m from Boise too! I go to Boise State, and I’ve been planning on applying to go on the Fall 2021 semester too! Such a small world.
I also go to Boise State, and am thinking about going for Fall 2020 too!
your highlight is POPPING!
I’m already stressed out about what I’m gonna do for Semester at sea and field classes and the expenses even though I’m 14
Same tho
same haha
What kind of scolarships are there, how can you apply to them, is it hard to get them and what do you need for them?
the scholarships are listed on the SAS website! every scholarship is different so I would check there for specifics
@@alexacashen7552 thank you so much❤
omg i’m interested for the voyage in fall 2021 too!
Semester at sea seems so fun! I did something similar on my gap year last year and loved it💙💙💙
What was that? Can u name it!!!!
Geetu Bakshi EF Gap Year!!
I’m so excited bc I really want to go but I’m too young rn
sas sounds so awesome but I feel like I would feel so trapped being in the middle of the sea for however long in between ports
i thought i would too but you really don't! the ship starts to feel like home. i miss being at sea a lot
I think that the good parts are that there are like hair salons and stuff so its not like you are always eating, sleeping and studying
how did you get a roommate? did you pick each other or was it random?
Were there many international students? I’m from the UK and really want to go to Semester at Sea when I finish High School!
I want to know that too. I’m from Denmark:)
I would also love to do it when I finish high school and I’m from Aus
I’m from the UK too
@me being sea sick and passed out after spending 5 minutes on the balcony and staring into the waves hitting the ships hull.
So were u on the same voyage as Gracie? Also is there only one ship at a time? Do they travel to the same places each time like every spring semester is same eg. Vietnam japan etc. Thx
Melissa Kalhor she was on the same voyage!
Alexa this is so good!
I would love to do this! It looks so wonderful
How difficult is to apply for scholarships if you are from another country? I'm from Mexico and I really want to do SAS before I end college
I applied for spring 2022, and am starting to think about choosing between the adventure double and inside triple. Which one did you choose and did you like it? And I’m an accounting major too btw!
China is actually a very safe country and if you’re in a bigger city, it’s pretty easy to get around even if you don’t speak Chinese. I lived there for two years ☺️
this video just popped up but i literally relate to you so much. i live in atlanta georgia but go to school in idaho and my semester abroad got cancelled ):
So I was accepted for spring 2021 but at this point, I'm not exactly sure how realistic that is going to be at this point
Same, I really hope we are able to go
Same, not sure how to afford all of it
yeah I just applied, but idk if I got in will it be possible to go or not
@@kathrynelaine5261 try selling cloths online or other things online I wanna go in the spring of 2023 and I've already made $2,000 I sell clothes I don't wear any more as well as stickers on red bubble I also do photography. I take my friends senior pictures and I do family pictures as well.
did you go
Hey you videos on SAS are so informative! I am planning to go on SAS 2022, do let me know if you know someone from India who has done SAS or was on your voyage, it would be great help! Thank You❤
When you do it again as a post grad, will you vlog it and talk about how that worked too? I'm planning on doing it as a post grad as well in sp2023 and I'm really curious
hayy me 2 🥳🥳
yes! i'm planning on doing spring 2022
How much money did you spend on independent travel? Im going on SP21, I'm so excited!
it depends! some countries like japan were relatively expensive (a rail pass is $300) but places like vietnam are pretty inexpensive (we stayed in a pretty nice air bnb in downtown hanoi for $14 a night)
I’m going on SP21 to 🤗🎉
Hey, can u please tell.
Whats SP21
Are you able to study sports medicine? Or are there classes related to it? Also great video!
Hi, I am a 15 year old from the UK and I am really interested in going to Semester at Sea as a Gap year student. I have a few questions that hopefully people can answer:
1.What age do you have to be to attend SAS? (When you leave 'high school' in the UK you are normally 16 years old and apparently you leave high school at 18 in the US.)
2. When do you get the final price you have to pay?( After or before you have gotten a grant and/or scholarship.)
3. Can you contact your family daily on the ship or do you have to wait until port to get signal?
4. When you fill in the application do you put your 'high school' or the college you have been accepted into?
Jinhitentertainment Manager Jin the only question I think j can answer is the first one. I haven’t applied yet but it says there’s no age requirement as long as you have a high school diploma you can apply
I’ve always wondered if I decide to do it my sophomore year or something pay for everything needed to I still need to pay for my semester at my school since I won’t be there but technically my classes would still count so just something I’ve wondered?
where did you get your butterfly earrings?? I love them!
a boutique in athens, georgia!
How are you supposed to study/do schoolwork/plan in country trips with only 4 computers on the whole ship and 7 mins of wifi on your phone?? Do you have more wifi time on your laptops? thanks for the info!
What were your other 3 classes? Do they have options of classes for different majors? For example does it matter if you’re majoring in engineering, biology, Spanish, accounting, etc.
Also what year of college were most students in on the ship? And you mentioned going the fall semester after you graduate, how does that work class-wise? Thanks in advance :)
i took marketing, management, and comparative economics, and there were people in all different majors on the ship. i'd say the majority of students were in their sophomore or junior years of college :)
are the seasons in the countries you travel to different if you go for a spring voyage or fall voyage. like is it colder in spring or fall. is there any difference?
Hi! I'm considering doing spring 21, but because of covid may end up looking further into fall 21. Only thing is I'd be post grad just like you're considering, so I was wondering if theres a lot of graduate students aboard or if thats abnormal?
there usually aren't a ton of post grad students, but because of a couple of voyages getting cancelled/ending early I bet there will be more on fall 21!
I’m going to guess this is true but do all of the houses people buy outside of the boat with there money?? If so i’m guessing they would just spilt the check.?
Also thank you for giving me information that other you tubers don’t about SAS!!💛
you can sleep on the boat for free in port but if you want to travel to a different city yes you pay for it yourself and your friends all split it! and ofc! ❤️
I just started college and I read on the semester at sea website and it says you have to have 12 minimum college credits. Obviously I do not have 12 college credits yet so when would you suggest applying? I want to apply for the spring 2022 voyage.
Do you have to pay your normal college tuition in addition to the SAS tuition for the term that you’re on the voyage?
no only SAS tuition bc you technically aren't attending your college for that semester
Okay but like for real if I end up doing SEM when u are can we be friends because u seem so much fun lol 😂
does your college tuition transfer over to SAS? or are you still paying your normal college tuition AND the $23k+ for SAS?
so like a double tuition?
also, if it isn’t too much of a hassle, you should really do how much you spent in each country and then total it up for all? i think a big factor for many is money :)
you should also do a video on what you packed, anything you should have, should NOT have, more of something-or less of something etc
(any packing tips and advice)
:))
no you only pay for SAS because you aren't attending your college for that semester
where did you find the money for in-country travel? Did you use like a credit card or pay with your phone?
credit card bc no international transaction fees!
I’m so curious about this marketing class trip to a theme park
me too! let me know if you find a video about it!
is setting aside $5,000 for in country expenses enough?
yeah that should be enough
How did pay for semester at sea? It sounds like a lot of money but I know you can get scholarships, etc. but it still seems like a lot of money
I assume she probably saved to afford it, but $20,000+ is a lot of money. She probably took out loans to pay to for the rest of it! Not positive but that makes sense to me haha.
She mentioned a scholarship during the financial part, so I'm thinking she got a scholarship to help pay for it
Hey!! Did you meet anyone who went spring semester of their senior year? I want to go spring 2021 (spring semester of junior year) but because of the corona virus I’m thinking of going spring semester of my senior year instead but I’m not sure :(
yeah there were a couple people on my voyage who were seniors!
I’m applying for spring 2022 which is my senior year, too!
Are the smaller cabins (triples especially) really crammed and is there enough closet space to store your things?
my cabin (double bunk) was really small but it didn't bother me plus you're never really in your room. the majority of double and triple cabins were totally fine on space in my opinion especially if you've lived in typical college dorms before. closet space isn't huge so don't overpack!
@@alexacashen7552 Thank you!!
did you meet gracie o’connor?
ok but why am i so set on this... and im class of 2024... shoot lol
class of 23 here and omg i wanna do this so bad i think i would wanna go my sophomore year of college which is a longggg way away
How did you guys communicate on the ship since there was no reception.
there's a site called Moodle you get an account with on SAS where you can message each other on the ship wifi but it doesn't give you notifications so mostly you had to wander around and just find people or leave sticky notes on people's doors
@@alexacashen7552 I'm a student from from India, planning to go on the fall 22 voyage but I'm extremely scared if I'll be able to fit in or not. Any advice?
@@wtfkatyayani I wasn't an international student so I can't completely speak on what that experience is like, but there were many international students on the ship and an international students club! the shipboard community is really friendly and supportive of everyone and people are excited to meet others from all over so I wouldn't worry :)
@@alexacashen7552 thankyou so much
Did you have any friends who were in a relationship going into SAS? I am really looking into going on one of the voyages and my pros and cons list isn't helping right now on what I should do :( (It's also 4 am and I haven't slept) Also, I'm an accounting major too!
if i can give you any advice it's to pls pls not let a relationship keep you from doing it. there were def ppl on the ship in relationships. i was in a relationship when i applied and if i hadn't done SAS bc of it i really would've had a lot of regrets
update: i applied
great vid! did you apply for scholarships? Do you know what kinds are available?
my scholarship from my college transferred but sas gives out scholarships & some of my friends were on those!
Alexa Cashen wait so if you got a college scholarship that can be used for SAS?
How much money did you spend on programs, hotels or airbnbs off the ship?
so helpful and great video!
I was also thinking about going as a post grad also on the fall 21 voyage, but there are a lot more and stricter requirements, how would you handle that or what do you think about that?
I’m so glad I’m not the only one thinking about that as well! I want to post grad as well but i don’t know when I would because I want to go to grad school this fall but I also want to study abroad soooo sos lol 😂
im also considering this! it seems like it wouldn't be too hard, and im thinking that there may be more post grad students on fall 21 because of covid so hopefully they'd be more lenient!!
thanks for this! I am like in the end of eight grade, but I have been interested in Semester at Sea since I was in sixth grade. I have been trying to get as much information possible and even have a giant notes in my phone dedicated to Semester at Sea with everything I should know and this really helped! I am planning to start a bank fund for SAS. So when I apply to Semester at Sea I would have all the money or at least some of the money I would need for it!
I'm a filipino and I really want to study in Stanford University to learn writing. Or perhaps Juilliard. I am actually telling my parents to make me a bank account because I already computed the expenses if I got to have a scholarship. Please be in my journey and by the way I am 12. So I still have time to save. Thanks Alexa
Can spanish people go to SAS??
I am from Spain, so I have no idea
Yes, it's international! I'm planning on doing it as well, I'm from The Netherlands ;)
Thanks!!
@@dithley ohheyyy i live in the netherlands too !
Hey! I go to UGA too and I'm looking into doing SAS spring 2021. Was it hard to get the credits to transfer back?
it was pretty easy - just make sure you communicate with the study abroad office
do the teachers kids that are like younger go on the ship?
yes a lot of professors had their spouses and kids w them
how did eating work in as much detail as possible? options, when in port, etc
is there an option in room to have a mini fridge or plug in stove top or anything like that.. thank you!
on the ship its basically like dining hall food or you can order from the grill. you can't have stoves or fridges or anything in your rooms but you can keep snacks in your rooms. when you're in port you can eat whatever!
do you have to declare a major before applying to SAS
no but it might be helpful for you to know your major and the requirements you need when picking your classes
Alexa Cashen thank u!
hi do you know if sas is available to students in the uk?
Im currently 14, Im thinking of going when im 16. whats the age limit? is there one?
It's for college students
Can u do a biology major on it?
How did you pick your roommate if you didn’t know each other before?
we started following each other on instagram and we ended up messaging and decided to be roommates
Does it count towards like college credits?
Yes
This is the suite life
So you have to go to college to go on SAS
Is it only possible to go to sas if u are from the US?
when do you think the best time in college is to do SAS?
personally I'd say spring of junior year
I’m from England and I’d love to go , do you have to be from the USA ?
Nope, a lot of students are from different countries.
Can we be roommates on fall 21 ?!
can we pls?? ❤️
can i apply right after finishing high school? it’s the gap year thing right?
yes!
loveee you great tips
I want to go into nutrition, would sas be a good idea?
It probably just depends on what classes are offered at sas for the specific semester you would want to go.
Same problem here...
From what I've seen on the website, there aren't many subjects offered which match the nutrition subjects.
Can you do it if your from UK?
I'm also from Idaho!
are there high school programs or only college
I’ve looked on the website and it’s only for college
what do u want to do after college?
work in accounting :)
Can you use your FASFA?
is it 26k per month? or is it the whole semester??
the whole semester
I thought this was Emma Topp
What... $26k for a semester? American education is crazy
thats cheaper than a lot of schools here too
So did you have to pay for field class?
no they're part of your grade so they're included
do people drink on the ship? are most people legal how does that work
ok ive done a lot of research so i can answer this !! from what ive gathered you can drink if you're 18 or older, because the ship is international. the thing is- its limited to like 2 or 3 drinks and only on drink nights. its hella dangerous to be drunk on the ship. also if you get on the ship really really drunk they put you in the drunk tank lol (Mostly for ur own safety because you could fall overboard)
Is 3000 dollar enough for an independent travel?? I truly hope so… haha
you should be fine! i'd make a budget plan for each country so you don't end up overspending on accident
Yall are crazy spending this much money to do this, what a scam. Just go travel with your friends, it will cost you way less and you can learn a lot more.
i disagree because SAS includes a full semester of college course credit (i never could have traveled this long without getting credit towards my degree), room and board, a majority of your meals, and transportation to 11 countries. it made a lot of sense for me, especially since i'm a college student, but that's not to say it's for everyone!
Is it only possible to go to sas if you are from the US?
no you can go as an international student
@@alexacashen7552 omg I can't believe, that you answered, thank you so much. p.s.: I love your videos
