"A film of charm and excitement ... poignancy and adventure ... The adventures are especially spectacular." - Roger Ebert
Robert Redford takes to the skies in this rousing and dramatic thrill-ride! Waldo Pepper (Redford) is a former WWI biplane pilot who feels he missed out on his chance to earn glory during the war and dreams of being the first man to perform the risky "outside loop." Desperate for cash, he resorts to "barnstorming" with his unique style of aerial showmanship, but soon lands in Hollywood as a stunt pilot. When German ace fighter pilot Ernst Kessler (Bo Brundin) is cast to recreate his famous dogfight in a Hollywood blockbuster, Waldo sees an opportunity to redeem his war record in a dramatic and death-defying airborne fight ... that proves to be a little too real.
Directed by George Roy Hill (The Sting) and co-starring Susan Sarandon, Margot Kidder, Bo Svenson and Edward Herrmann, it's a thrilling, pulse-pounding story about the dreamers and risk-takers of early aviation.

I watched this as a kid in the 70s and qualified as a Wing Walker in Sept 2019. Loved every second, can't wait to do it again.
I've flown on the top of a Stearman 3 times now. Not as a qualified Wing Walker though. I was just a paying passenger!
An homage to aviation... it has everything action, reality, tragedy, apathy, humour and a passion for flying... Robert Redford and George Roy Hill creating magic once again...
Probably one of the greatest flying scenes of any film ever...Redford did his own wing walking stunts in "The Great Waldo Pepper." Legendary.
Now THAT is some bit of trivia! I didn't know that, but thank you for sharing! Take care.
Well, let's say he stepped out of his seat onto the wing...then CUT😉.
Still cool.
Amazing film. Watched it today n yes for the first time... I was surprised at the authenticity with which it was made... Thanks for uploading the clip.
Just saw an interview with Redford from "Robert Redford inside the actors studio (2005) (part 2/2)". He said he walked out on that wing himself. Though after getting out there he looked down and his nerve completely crashed. Was unsure if he would be able to make it back.
if that was really him he has grande cohonoes!!
Best friggin movie ever !!
I'll have to watch this film. I'd not even heard of it until now!
I love a great film like that.
I felt a little bit constipated this morning so I watched that scene. I feel better but had to change pants.
Robert Redford is simply crazy. I got scared just watching.goosebumps
Interesting fact…both Bo Brundin and Robert Redford wing walked for this scene. No safety wires
That's Bo Svenson. The other Bo/Swedish actor of this film.
I'm terrified just watching this scene. I like staying on the floor.
I'm traumatized.
Eat you heart out Tom cruise
Una.gran pelicula.
Is this the film where the girl falls off the wing? I saw that as a kid on TV and it really shocked me deeply.
Ah, Iron men and wooden airplanes...
El carnaval de ĺas aguilas
I noticed a film error - Robert Redfords socks are white in part and black in the other
Nah, same socks. He just shit himself!
they filmed the real thing. you can clearly see that the man up on the wing is probably around 70 or 80 years old, and most likely one of the original real life performers from that era. it's the only reason to watch the movie--just to see that old fart's balls in going up there and actually riding that wing. magnificent. watch the movie just for that one scene!
like "bridge on the river kwai" watch the movie just the see that train crash into the river.
Apparently, it was. Redford himself
Tetyana, where in the world did you get the idea it was an old man? The authenticated biography ROBERT REDFORD reports that is Redford doing the entire stunt. Cheers.
DISAPOINTING, NO REAL STORY .
