3M 5200 is the factory adhesive to hold the fitting the driveshaft goes through to the hull on Yamaha PWCs, and has been for decades, I'd say its proven the test of time. Likely many other OEMs are using it for other purposes also, I've had to replace those fittings, and let me tell you, its a job. The 5200 will tear the fiberglass before it releases, better to just grind it off to avoid damaging the hull.
@@athhud I would suspect so, I work mainly on PWCs and the other brands use a different setup for sealing the driveshaft. Most brands use no sealant if the fitting is above or at the waterline, I've seen seadoo and honda sponsons leaking water in through the bolts threads, I wouldn't want to 5200 them on, you'd never get them back off lol!
Their Urethane Glue (the stuff that looks like honey) and their Tape are both very good products, the rest of their products are overpriced "market segment" products.. AKA they are low/mid grade crap that uses the "Gorilla" name to drive sales on the store shelves.
The original Gorilla Glue is good at what it does, but it looks like they just bought up old formulations when they expanded their range. My take on it is always do your research and find the best tool for the job, or in this case the manufacturer that made their fortune in this specific marketplace (the F26 in particular seems to fit the bill here). Rather than being a brand junkie and exhibit slavish devotion to any one company. These days all businesses seek to diversify to protect themselves from market fluctuations and unplanned obsolescence of their key products. Which means that 90% of their product line is likely to have limited in house R&D, if any, and most likely they've just paid patent fees and copied someone else's design, or worse still, they've put their own branding on a third party product. An exception to this, especially within the adhesives sector is 3M, who have infinite money and R&D resources because companies and governments have been using their products for donkeys years, for everything from adhesives, tape and insulation to bespoke products used on vessels launched into space. They are the world leaders in all things sticky, but you pay a price premium for all that R&D and the companies monolithic infrastructure and overheads. Sometimes the smaller companies with greater specificity in a particular area are the best bet overall for cost vs performance. F26 is made by a company started in 1930, and while it may no longer be family owned, there's still a lot of experience in their sector making products that people in the industry actually use. As for Flex, at that price to performance ratio they need to go back to the drawing board and create a new formulation. Neither good wet or dry, on wood or plastic, and ridiculously priced to boot. They're taking the piss even more than Gorilla are! Certainly nothing to be proud of if you work for Flex. Do better yo! Or drop your prices to a more appropriate level for the performance at the very least.

Love your videos! They have been so helpful to me in buying quality tools. One suggestion I have to improve the shear test is to move the the pin/hook directly over the glue joint. Right now it is creating a little bit of torsional stress on the joint, which is trying to pull apart the bottom.
As a scientist, there are a few areas of improvement to help limit variables, but overall I approve and enjoy the channel. The only thing I can really see here for improvement is a measured amount of product being used. Then again, each product is different and may have different directions.
@@hiram1115 Yeah, that's what has drawn me to his channel too - the tests seem fairly well thought out usually, especially for what you can do at reasonable time in your garage.

Great video, can't beat good ol JB weld. I'm also noticed that the Gorilla brand is not as good as the commercials claim, because it's products do not perform very well in tests. Thanks for what you do!
Gorilla products are very hyped and somewhat overpriced for what it's worth in my own experience, but then again, it depends of where you're located, USA, Europe, Asia etc., and what kind of taxes and VAT the importer has to pay, and how many percentages the importer and resellers require in profit. Here in my neck of the woods (Scandinavia) the taxes and the VAT is quite high, and therefore Gorilla products are quite expensive. :)
I agree. I’ve used their super glue and it has failed quite often compared to the loctite I now use. Their gorilla glue just foams way to much to really do anything
This channel is just so mesmerizing, I've subscribed and binged watch several videos,in one of the previous video people claimed jb-weld would not hold up in this category... And yet once again it can hold its own and mop the floor...thank you for showing the converted metric values.
Thanks again for such valuable info! I guess it's not a big surprise that 3M won. They've been in that business a long time! As I watched the testing i wondered two things. First, if the bolt through the center of the wood in the tensile strength test could cause a stress riser that precipitated failure? Second, would a clamping device, possibly with teeth, prevent a stress riser and provide enough pull in that test to find the upper limits of the JB Weld and others that led to wood failure? Thanks again Todd! Keep up the good work!
Is some regular old elmers wood glue in the mix for the non marine tests? That stuff has a long deserved hystory of being as strong as the wood it is applied to. Be interesting to see if the cheapest option turns out to be the best

PL Premium x3 is my vote in my experience, but since your including the more recently new PL x8 my money is on that. Impressed with the 3m though. My most impressed experience with PL is with deco concrete wall blocks. 7 year old install removing the glued down cap stones from the block wall, the glue never failed, the Caps or block pulled away from each other taking the glue it was attached to like in the results with the wood you observed. But that's wood with grain and not compressed and fully cured stable concrete blocks. That was with the 3x, 8x never existed at the time.

In retrospect of GORILLA glue's reputation, price, & hype, I'm VERY disappointed with those results.
If you have to advertise so much, you probably are disappointing
Their Urethane Glue (the stuff that looks like honey) and their Tape are both very good products, the rest of their products are overpriced "market segment" products.. AKA they are low/mid grade crap that uses the "Gorilla" name to drive sales on the store shelves.
@@researchandbuild1751 You can apply that to a lot of stuff UA-cam channels shill. RayCons and Raid Shadow legends are the current best example.
I swear 3M makes EVERYTHING. I have military comms equipment made by 3M. Half the things in my hospital say 3M on them. It’s a crazy company.
YES! I've been waiting for this one...
Thank you and hope you enjoy the video!
I actually needed this, heading to Home Depot now
Perfect timing! Thank you!
For JB weld?
Are you back yet? What did you buy?
Great job! Lookin forward to the other test and comparison. I have always been a PL premium user, but that 3M adhesive looks great.
Thank you! Loctite PL is amazing!
This channel is awesome! So glad it has become big. You do a great job at testing these products to their limits while also giving each a fair chance.
Thank You!
3M makes good stuff, also Liquid Nails is pretty impressive.
Hi Matt, Great point! I'm very impressed with 3M. Video testing Liquid Nails in a week. I love your videos and am looking forward to your next one. Thanks again for the see through rotary engine!! Testing 100LL aviation fuel in it soon. Thanks again!
@@ProjectFarm awesome, can't wait. Man you keep on teasing me telling me you're looking forward to my next video, I'm so freaking behind right now. Top priority for me to get my schedule in order.
Thank you for doing this stuff!
It's good to see these tests done by somebody who doesn't have an agenda.
Keep up the good work!
Thank you!!
Thank you for all the time, effort, and thought you put into these videos. I always enjoy the way you engineer your tests.
Thank You!
Seeing this video, and having recently bought a dashcam with a 3M adhesive pad mount that I could not remove for the life of me after placing improperly, makes me want to see you do a similar video to this only with adhesive pads/mounts. Perhaps on glass along with other surfaces? Thanks for the awesome content!
Thanks for the video idea.
The amount of prep that goes into these is crazy, thank you for keeping up the quality content.
Thank you very much!
Very curious to see how Liquid Nails will do ?
I'll be waiting.
Thank you!
Yes, i was looking for liquid nails in the line up too. Very popular product in this area. Has always done a great job for me.
@@haroldburkett7454 pretty sure it will be in part 2
@@ProjectFarm I assumed Liquid Nails would be the reference adhesive. That aside, the 3M product is my new reference adhesive. :)
No Power Grab? Just curious.
Project farm is so thorough in testing that they take a sticky subject and unglue it all for real world results....awesome, thanks!
Thank you!
And the results stick with you.
Yes great point results that stick!
@emilios man
What you did there? I see it.
I can’t get enough of your content. Thank you for all the effort you put into these. So consistent and always so controlled so the comparison is accurate. :)

Painstaking, meticulous testing. Thank you!

I enjoyed watching and learning about what to buy and what not to buy through this channel.
Keep up the great work.

I use a lot of these products that he test he shows me exactly which ones not to use it since I started following his advice my projects been coming out better
Thank you! Glad these videos are helpful!
You've built something special with this channel
Thanks!
Great video man! I can tell it takes a lot of time and effort to make an awesome video! Thanks for taking the time to entertain us and yet teaching us! Keep up the good work!
Thank You!
Love your videos! They have been so helpful to me in buying quality tools.
One suggestion I have to improve the shear test is to move the the pin/hook directly over the glue joint. Right now it is creating a little bit of torsional stress on the joint, which is trying to pull apart the bottom.
Anyone who calls these tests 'unscientific' is an absolute dip
Thank you
As a scientist, there are a few areas of improvement to help limit variables, but overall I approve and enjoy the channel.
The only thing I can really see here for improvement is a measured amount of product being used. Then again, each product is different and may have different directions.
@@hiram1115 my one gripe would be sample size, but time eventually becomes a concern
@@hiram1115 Yeah, that's what has drawn me to his channel too - the tests seem fairly well thought out usually, especially for what you can do at reasonable time in your garage.
"Where is his clipboard? Where is his white jacket?!? You call this scientific? I've seen James Bond films and this ain't scientific!"
You must have been asked this a million times. What is your background? The array of testing tools, combined with smart testing strategies is beyond impressive.
Project Farm, you are exactly what is needed. Extremely useful. Thank you.
Amazing.
Thanks so much!
Love it Todd keep it up I've seen liquid nails rip a bord in half onstage of breaking
Thank you very much! Looking forward to the video on liquid nails next Monday!
Good video.
Now that's a lot of damage...to Flex Seals street cred.
Thank you!
Did they ever really have any? When you resort to infomercials, you know your product is garbage.
your videos have influenced numerous purchasing decisions ive made in the last month. it is a comforting feeling to buy something knowing i'm likely getting the best value for my money. i sincerely thank you for everything you have researched and shared.
You are welcome!
Hey Project Farm! Your videos rock!
I would love to see:
1. Asphalt shingle comparison
2. Exterior house paint comparison
3. Siding comparison
Thank you for the video ideas!
Great video, can't beat good ol JB weld. I'm also noticed that the Gorilla brand is not as good as the commercials claim, because it's products do not perform very well in tests. Thanks for what you do!
Thank you!
I agree. Gorilla products have failed me too many times.
Given gorilla glues test results I'm surprised they haven't sent some guys to project farms house in the middle of the night lol
Am a shipbuilder in Vancouver Canada and we use 3M 5200 if you want it to STICK and you NEVER HAVE TO TAKE IT APART ! !
Impressive! Great point on it becoming a permanent bond!
Great test idea!
Favorite Channel !
For anyone new to 3M 5200 don’t use on anything that may need to be separated in the future and definitely don’t mistake for general chalking lol as did a very sorry boat I knew.
3M 4200 if possible future separation.
The 3M line are incredible when you need that.
Thanks for the feedback.
Man I need to get some of that 3M stuff...right after I run out of JB Weld ;)
Music by local bands?
in quebec, we have PL premium. very good glue for anything

I was disappointed to not see PL in the lineup. I guess they don't have it in the states...
They have it but its loc tite

i know from experience (ex gf's family) even the stuff 3M throws away is amazing. thats one company that pisses excellence.
They have made some duds specifically they made a pair of earplugs that were knowingly defective and gave a ton of people and veterans hearing loss. Anytime they do something stupid or evil it is usually negligence or arrogance though. Whenever they try it turns out well.

I’ll go with J.B. Weld, thank you. Now the $3 question: how much did your tube of J.B. Weld cost? 😋
I wish I could get JB Weld in gallon cans and it not cost a small fortune. I never seem to have enough tubes of it on hand.
athhud the worst is when you fail to properly measure out the right amount of jb weld and you come short by one screwdriver scoop.

A: "Need stronger wood to test! \>0.0
