I had 2 SL88 and had to return to Sweetwater. I am happy you got a good one. I ended up on the Kawai MP11. It is a real dream if you know this keyboard, it's just like a real piano.

Hi, your video is very interesting! I just wanted to clarify that the SL Grand doesn’t have wooden keys. Instead, it features very thin wooden veneers glued to both sides of the plastic key. The wood serves only an aesthetic purpose. Unfortunately, other companies are doing the same, and I believe this trend is misleading and should be criticized by us consumers. Thank you.

Actually the key is made out of a solid piece of wood sandwiched between two pieces of plastic. This does change the way the key feels as the solid wood is a substantial part of the structure of the key which makes it feel more like a real piano key. Unfortunately, it does however, create the potential for warpage and key misalignment and sticking keys which I had trouble with. ua-cam.com/video/Wfoi-2Cf1hA/v-deo.html Here's a video of a man who appears to have a lot of experience working on this action as he is able to align the keys by squeezing the plastic with wire cutters. Who would have guessed? LOL ua-cam.com/video/mm2cDefYuuM/v-deo.html

@@billp307 hello there, please check it yourself and find the title "Synth Factory Tour: inside FATAR Studiologic" at minute 23:14. Pay attention to the inner part of the key and tell me if it isn't hollow.

This is the exact piano I am looking to get. I have a good semi weighted synth but I want that real piano feel. You get a nice sound that you can't quite get without the weighted keys.

Hey. Have you done comparisons of the SL88 Grand with the Numa X Piano GT and its TP/400 WOOD keyboard? And if so how would you rate the differences between the TP/40 WOOD and the TP/400 WOOD?

I love this keyboard. But I needed to send it back for replacement, the center big knob was having some issues when moved up, it block itself, like it wasn't properly centered or someting.

Cool info. Needs more cats. It's nice to know before you drop a grand on a midi controller that it will hold up. I like the idea of the Fatar W400 keybed but it's still fairly new and there aren't many durability reviews on it. Great idea bolstering the controls with a midi pad. I was thinking a 25 or 32 key keyboard was the only option. Liked and newly subscribed.

Awesome. Thanks. Yeah the cats come and go as they please. I think it's going to be pretty durable. I've heard good things for others. Who've had it over a year.

@@Cre8ivKeyboards I made a mistake. The keybed is a Fatar TP/40W, not a TP/400. I'm thinking the 40W, having been around longer, has had its deficiencies addressed long before. I'm still kind of obsessed with the StudioLogic Numa X 88 Grand, though.

Hello, I wanted to ask you how you manage to save the key balance settings in the SL editor? These have 10 memories available. In my case, none of the ten work. I cannot save my key balance settings even though I press the button and save the setting after saving another setting in the next memory. The previous setting is no longer found. .. could you make a video about this or would I appreciate it if you explained to me how you do it? thank you so much!! Blessings!

A question, the piano patch you are using in the beginning of the video, is it a built-in patch?

It's just the normal Studio Piano patch that comes with Logic. I am using Mike A. and mike B. I have another video about this that is in the description.

Hello, I'm deciding between SL88 Studio, which I am not sure you had your hands on, and HAMMER 88 PRO which is just 150 bucks more. I mostly care about keypad and other stuff is just bonus. In your video about HAMMER 88 you mentioned that the action was bit too loose for you but you really seem to like the SL88 Grand. Do you think SL88 studio has similar feel even with plastic keypads? I heard that SL88 studio has even harder action than Grand, would that be too much for you in such case? Which one of these would you choose if you had to hammer or SL studio? Good job with hitting that 1000 subscribers mark btw ;D

The SL88 is heavy but that's not an issue (some acoustic pianos are that heavy as well) - the issue is its springiness. It's okay but there are better actions out there.

I wondered if you were paying for a cheaper keyboard and wanted something to play around with until you got the SL88, would you go for the SL88 studio, Hammer 88 or use your NI S61 for piano playing
I have a old Roland HP702 graded hammer piano, but I want something mid price for my studio and will be looking to upgrade to something better at a later date
I mainly write orchestral music, but it's nice having a piano for certain compositions, I have Komplete and other libraries, so I am purely looking for something to control samples
Thank you for your reviews, they have been educational and you play very well

    • @jcrefeld
      @jcrefeld 2 місяці тому +1

No, I don't think the key action is that loud. I would say it's a little quieter than 'playing' your fingers on a wood table, as if you're playing a piano.

Well most good hammer action controllers might have some amount of sound to them. Just like a real piano does. If you
Need it to be silent it's going to be hard to find an action like this.

How is the SL88 as a MIDI controller compared to your previous P515? Have you considered the Numa X Piano GT? For a solo pianist 100% acoustic piano, would you recommend the P515 or a MIDI+VST controller? What keyboard action do you consider better? heavier and more solid? Tanks

    • @Cre8ivKeyboards

SL88 Grand has similar action to P515 but more accurate MIDI.

Studiologic have their own controller for the sl88, you should check it out because not only is it connected with midi din its also Bluetooth as well.
It have all the controls you mentioned that you need plus many more faders.

You gave up too quickly on the Native Instruments S88MK3, lots of extra bang for the buck and a similar keybed, with poly after touch. And given your chose route, the Maschine MK3 would have given your the screens to select instruments; something your can’t do on the Maschine mini.

      I have a S61 and am
Updating to the S61MK3 soon. The action on the SL88Grand is absolutely NOT similar to the S88.
Besides, I had no choice but to return it. Power did not work.

I gave up on the S88MK3 also, the piano action was sluggish and heavy. Now hoping/waiting for Studiologic to update the SL88 Grand with polyphonic aftertouch.
