Yeah, I hear you. As long as users also sync their OneDrive for Business, it does achieve the same thing. However, the same sync limits still apply. But I did hear anecdotal stories that performance is better with this combination. As long as it works, I guess...
@1:13 - after you stop sync & remove the account from Onedrive, why does the sync folder in Windows explorer does not go away? @4:04 - how to remove the "SharePoint Maren" folder, without removing any files from SharePoint Online?
@2:45 - how do you see everyone you share a file or folder with from within SharePoint library web interface? it only shows stuff that is shared to you, not from you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is it possible to share/sync a specific folder to more than one SharePoint site? We provide payroll services and want to create a team's site with the client company to collaborate and to give them access to the payroll reports (current and history) that we save on our main Documents Library.
You would need to share a folder with another Team, but physically, the folder will still reside on the original site. It does not quite work they way you describe, though. I documented this in this article: sharepointmaven.com/how-to-access-files-and-folders-shared-with-the-microsoft-365-group-via-shared-with-us-link/
I don’t personally use sync, I was just getting so many issues it just wasn’t worth it, and will add shortcuts to OD if I really need to. What do you personally think of Sync to OneDrive Greg?
Yeah, I hear you - lots of issues with Sync - I always hear about them. Adding a shortcut to OneDrive is a good way to add bookmarks to favorite folders; however, if you sync OneDrive for Business, you also sync locally. However, I heard anecdotal stories that its performance is better than syncing individual libraries... Strange
We're having the issue that when a user syncs a folder somewhere in a specific document library, the onedrive client scans through the entire document library before syncing out the desired folder. Do you know if this is the intended functionality? It doesn't seem to do this in another company I'm connected to.

We disabled sync and advise on using the add shortcut to onedrive option. Better performance and is persistent across devices.

Will be happy to answer all your questions: sharepointmaven.com/sharepoint-consulting/
@5:20 - how can we sync the at the library level, and still make the users only see the stuff they should have access to?

MS should prevent or at least warn when you sync the library if you have already synced folders from that library.
Agree, would be nice

No sure what you mean by "scanning" the entire library. I have never seen that behavior either.
Good explanation. Thank you.
You are welcome!
How to remove library that was added to explorer?
via OneDrive Settings
Isn't Microsoft going to phase out synching, and instead advise users to use shortcuts?
I am not aware of this
One of the user synced whole library but status icons were not showing, what may be the issue?
I don't know
This would be a great idea except that OneDrive has major performance issues when it comes to syncing large libraries.
Correct. I agree. The official limit is 300,000 but issues arise even with smaller quantities...
