This is brilliant! Can't believe it worked so well. The woolly nylon in the bobbin, serging the hem first, wash away wonder tape and longer stitch are absolutely the key to finally being able to do this successfully. Thank you.

Thank you for sharing these tips. I have used a twin needle before but wasn't happy with the result. You've convinced me to give it another try. Your tutorials are fantastic!

Thanks, this is really helpful. I haven’t had any success with a twin needle but am willing to try the recommended bobbin thread and tape. Not comfortable changing the bobbin tension.

Totally understand that. I wrote a little more about it in my blog post. For my Brother machine, I bought a separate bobbin case that I changed the tension on for use with elastic thread.

So don't backstitch at the beginning and end? I had a feeling that was what was causing my thread nests with the twin needle.. I have success with less tunneling by lowering my main tension ,

Adjusting tension is great option for some machines.

My second spool holder has broken off my very old Elna. Where can I get one like the one you are using? I’m in Canada.

Hi Diane, Mine came with my machine. I've seen people put a second spool inside a mug that sits next to their machine. This was specifically for very large spools of thread. But maybe a tiny cup would work for you. Or a sippy cup with a lid so the spool doesn't move around? There are also devices, I think called spool holders, that should do what you need.

2 mm does great but the 3mm twin needle skips stitches. Its a brother ce112tprw

It could be that the 3mm is slightly bent. Or, that something was a little off when threading. Or, it could be the needle type. I generally use a "Universal" twin needle but they are also available for stretch fabric. I sometimes get skipped stitches when sewing very stretchy fabric with a ballpoint needle instead of a stretch needle.

My thread broke, then one of my double needles broke

Hmm. It could be a number of different things. Perhaps one of the needles was slightly bent to begin with or the needle was installed slightly crooked in the machine. Thread quality can sometimes cause breakage. Or it could also be an old needle. Such a bummer that it broke though!
