I don't know if you'd want to spend the money on it, but I've found a single strand of electric wire, about chest height, works well for keeping small ruminants off of the fence. I did it mostly to keep my sheep from rubbing on the fence. But they quickly learned to just stay away from the fence.

Yep that’s the cutter bar, I have the same model and if you sharpen the flails and the cutter bar you’ll find it does chop quite well… My understanding is that the model you’ve got is a fine cut and the multi cut has a lot more flails in it and the flails are about half the width

@@FamilyFarmingandFun yep we do have one and do about 30ha a year including the maize with it.
They’re brilliant machines you can hit an old tree stump with them and all they’ll do is make a hell of a noise and chuck a few wood chips in the cage and then carry on like nothing happened 😂
I run ufo mower the same as you as well, I was going to get a new ufo last season but they told me they don’t make them anymore! A real shame cause they’re real robust basic mower…
Keep up the good great work, really enjoy your videos!

yep thats the cutter "ledger" bar ... i ran mine close as possable . and yup we ran in higher pto gears ... but we had heaps of hp .... we played around with all the cominations found what worked for us. yup we raked everything ... even often with our big swather(8mtrs odd) ... we also at one stage used a 3.2mtr trailing mower conditioner... that made awesome swaths for picking up with the gallaghers .
but yep end of the day ... as you say it works and you guys are happy with it. "if it aint broke dont fix it "
fine cut, multi cut . 1 had lighter spring steel flails ... in a scroll pattern around the drum .
one had heavy fails in straight rows across drum .
mine where scroll pattern drums with heavy fails ...(looks like yours is the same) .
i do have the gallagher information stashed somewhere from days passed.
you could still buy new foragers not so long ago .. built to order from from memory ,fil? engineering ??? ... pass id have to dig through my stuff.

Thanks for the information. Would be great if if someone started making them again. If money wasn’t a issue I would look to buy a mower conditioner big than our mower and try the bigger wind rows.

@@FamilyFarmingandFun most likely 2.5 or 3.2 mm rods. I'm a dairy farmer. Used to be a welder. The main thing is your fixing it yourself well done 👍
