I passed the 66 yesterday! A combination of the 65 and 63. These exams are definitely not to hard, but you really need to put some time in to make sure you pass!

I passed the series 65 in 2019. Filed Form ADV in my state before the 2 year window closed. My securities attorney and the state administrator told me to use the "Registration exemption for investment advisers to private funds". It is my understanding that 3(c)1 requires "Qualified Clients" to charge a performance fee. Was not my understanding that registration as an IA was required to charge a 2% management fee for AUM....

I'm trying passmasters January 3, 2023. I have crushed the indices for 25+ years including using holding 3 bond funds in a portfolio with 5 funds, so should be lower returns, right? Wrong. I've hit home runs every year. Gotta vet the manager tenure and compare 3/5/10 year returns.

To take the Series 7 Exam, a candidate must be sponsored by a FINRA member firm, which will file the Uniform Application for Securities Industry Registration or Transfer (Form U4) in the Central Registration Depository (CRD) and pay the required examination fee. Given Bridger's drive and momentum, I highly doubt he won't succeed in achieving that license as well.

Only some states for some reason require the 7 along with 65 to register as an IA, but more often than not you just need a 65. You can deal with any security for your clients, but you will only be able to get paid in fees from your clients instead of commissions from third parties (e.g issuers of securities).

@@anger42 it depends. and I say this with the discliamer of I am not a securities lawyer. Before you commit any money get a good securities lawyer/consultant to help you set it up correctly. On a basic level if you are charging commissions for each transaction you need to either start of create a Broker-Dealer ( lots of hoops and regs LOTS) if you are just going to charge a fee for managing it then you have to create an Investment advisor firm then pass your 65 and register either with various states or the SEC. The 65 you can self sponsor for. Again I am summarizing the answer but its a start
