Is Nebraska Football's 2024 Hype Justified?

- On this cut of Touchdown Talk with College Football with Sam, @BIG10_Quicktalk and I discuss whether or not we think Nebraska Football's hype is justified. The Nebraska Cornhuskers are 20th in returning production entering 2024, and their starting quarterback will most likely be 5-star freshman, generational talent Dylan Raiola. Their defense last year was Top 20 and most of their starters, including star defensive tackle Nash Hutmacher, return. However, Nebraska has not been to a bowl game since 2016 and many of their 2024 opponents will improve compared to last season. I'm a lifelong Husker fan; and while the hype coming from the sports media on Nebraska is not largely shared by many Nebraskans who have been burned before. There are so many variables. Injuries happen, he's a freshman who could falter, etc, etc. I think I can speak for most of who are, like, I wanna believe, but I need to see it on the field first. Nice topic Sam!
As a Husker fan, I’m telling you that you can’t use logic. It will blow your mind the ways they find to lose games. You can pencil in right now that they lose 2-3 games in completely ridiculous ways to teams they have more talent than. There is some sort of insane curse going on.

As a Husker fan for the last 35+ years I have been weary of any hype for last 15 or so years. That being said, we as fans have to find our confidence in this team to make them feel confident. I've felt the air and joy leave a room so often in the last ten years if NE even gives up a TD. We need to have confidence to let this team find it's swagger. We have to believe they can win as much as they do. GBFR!!! 85 DAYS!
Nebraska is real. There was glimpses last year and Rhule is slowing building a power. He needs 4 years but this is the year they turn the corner & reach a bowl. They are a playoff program in year 3 and beyond

My Husker are mostly hype. When you get to an OL and DL being drafted in the 1st or 2nd round consistently, then you can buy into us. Rushing yards can't be from the QB either. This year has some strengths in OL and DL because of folks that stayed, but these aren't "great players", just "experience average players". It doesn't matter if we win 9 games this year, it's about the lines ... and we aren't dominate in that area nor in good, basic blocking, tackling and limiting mistakes. 6-7 wins is an expected season, 8 not a surprise but we are not "back".

I’ve been vocal about my opinion, it’s a curse. If it will lift, we have the talent for a 10-2 season. Should it lift and this be true, we will hit USC Having 1 loss swagger and a shot at that game as well. Wisconsin as has had our number and we’re due. If we stop forcing Iowa to win, they will. Some one sacrifice a chicken lol (just teasing) so that we can be Nebraska again. GBR

@@collegefootballwithsam You are welcome. In my videos your analysis helps with my preproduction. Nebraska is an enigma. Which adds to their intrigue. Point that stood out the most for me was the returning production stat. Yet its not jus their production that returns. Its apparent Neb has done a good job trimming the fat and adding muscle I suppose in the off season. When you look at those who are returning from injury. Or who they have added via portal and of course Rhiola. Assuming the O line actually leans to pass block. And barring injury. This is a team that apposing coaches in prep week will be very conscious about. Even for the Ohio State's! OSU will still win. But OSU will be concerned in their Neb prep week I think.

I know it's cliché, but it's just how fast Dillon Rayola can come along. The quarterback that can spin it makes everything so much easier on offense. Even as far as back as Gino Smith at West Virginia and they dumped 70 on Clemson in the bowl game.
Michigan fan here. I see the makings of a very good team. I expect them to win nine games.
I agree. I think 8-9 wins, maybe 10 counting the bowl game, is what this team will achieve this season.
NU has a chance to start the season strong. Starting 7-0 or 6-1. That should be the focus. We can talk about the hype train with a bowl eligible team by October.

Nebraska and Virginia Tech are the most overhyped teams this year, and it's not close.
He said 10:50 (Nebraska) ," ...they are near elite in player development, they are already there in recruiting"... "Near elite" in player development is a pretty shaky statement, but "already there" in recruiting is not close. Going from #25 class to the #18 last year is not "elite". It is one year of a lower second rate power 5 level class after a third rate the previous year. #18 out of 69 power 5 schools is just out of the top quarter(26%).

You cannot tell me that the NFL head coaching job is the same as College Football head coaching job. For starters an NFL HC does not control the making of his roster really at all- whereas a college coach constructs his entire roster of HIS guys not his GM's guys. I could go into more detail but dont conflate the two- it is 2 very different jobs.
QuickTalk- its hyped and the media is over hyping it. Just as in the last 10 years, nebraska has average talents. Even to now, raiola may be a 5 star, but in order for him to succeed. Those average others has to be close to perfect. I think, CU, ucla, ohio st., iowa, usc, rutgers, and be ware of purdue.. 7 losses

7 years of absurd levels of hype with abysmal results. Not only hasn’t Nebraska deserved hype for the better part of a decade but other teams who’ve accomplished much more never get talked about. Stop being a part of the problem. Don’t be like the other pandering pundits out looking for clicks and from a delusional fanbase. Maybe talk about teams who actually deserve attention because they’ve actually produced on the field and won on a consistent basis. No one cares about what they did in the 90’s. The only natty’s Nebraska wins these days are in the offseason. Do better.
When we talk about the hype NEB gets, it is because they have DESERVERD it, unlike in previous years. I could go on about how I love their roster, and strength of schedule, and recruiting class, but ig this stigma of previous regimes is too much for actual facts and reasons
@@BIG10_Quicktalk We were told every year for the past 7 years that they have deserved it. Don’t pretend that we haven’t rehashed the same thing over and over again. Other teams deserve more attention. Until Nebraska actually produces on the field they don’t deserve anything.

@@briggsofdisaster When you just shout HISTORY HISTORY HISTORY at the top of your lungs, it really shows that you are not paying attention when NEB has done, NEB made definitive strides in improving their roster as their roster is proven and productive, plus that lame ass schedule it is impossible to hate unless ur just a hater. Also why are we beging up the Frost regime and trying to justify Rhule year 2 being bad...? Cause NEB did not deserve hype last year and I predicted 6-6 for them along with many other analysts. So your claim is largely just shouting at the sky and no actual basis ✌✌

After listening to this, it's not a shocker Kool-Aid was invented in Nebraska. Fat Rhule is not the answer. He built programs in weak conferences pre NIL and he was about an abject failure in the NFL. And poor Raiola was sold a bill of goods. Hope he's fast because he will be running for his life.
I don't think people understand who strong the NIL is within Nebraska, especially when that new ruling comes in and the school gets 20M to give to allocate to player.
