How many people know this song is about them living in East Germany and secretly listening to western music before the wall came down?
@@Dr.Seltsam100 that's what the song is about, they are originally from East Germany. They grew up behind the wall, like my mother. I speak german, though not as well as I once did. When they were younger, they would listen to western broadcasts of popular music, not allowed in Eastern block countries.
I figured thats what it was about and I certainly don't speak German lol but I think they use that imagery to tie it to what music did for them in their own lives. It liberated them

This one does too. It's about how they used to illegally listen to West German radio stations before the Wall came down. That's how they'd learn about popular music, as well as world events and stuff that wasn't censored by the Soviets.

Maybe Till is not the one to take one side. But he is not apolitical. E.g. this Song, "Radio", shows the perspective of someone living under a repressive regime, who secretly listens to radio stations abroard, to get information instead of propaganda.
@@cel777 well, I'm pretty sure that this song it his remember. I'm from Russia too, I lived in Soviet Union as well, I do remember those time. And it could be crazy, but it was good time for me because I was young! And we feel everything another. And me, I listened radio as Till and it was really GREAT! So many emotions! Now everything free, no problem to listening any music you like. But those huge emotions!... Buy the way, Till sang Russian song "Lubimiy Gorod" - this is a song form our (his and my) Soviet past, as Till was born in Eastern German. It's impossible to explain...We remember it with sadness and joy. Because it's our past, somewhere bad, somewhere pretty good. It's a part of Till, of me and many people who was born in USSR...
