One of my most favourite crafting videos. Sometimes I watch it just for the pleasure of it))) And I've been wanting to upcycle the cover of an old English textbook. Thanks a lot!
Fabulous aging and distressing of the book cover and enough to leave out the title of the Atlas. Love the closure and the binding and the seam binding decorations, too! Great job!
What amazing art you created ! I for sure want to take the love and care to fix up an old worn piece of history while updating it to be used once again, it it's just beautiful! I own an old 1889 catalog that is so cool and very poor shape and I'm going to save the pages of it and use the fantastic cover in this way! Thank you for the inspiration! Very relaxing to me too..👏
What a great way to re-purpose an old book without having to sew signatures into it. I really love this idea! Lots of room - so useful!!! Thanks so much for sharing!!!
Coucou France, What a brilliant idea and project, you have worked you magic again to create such a gorgeous repurposed bespoke folder. I love everything about it, all the colours, textures and the vintage style too. The spine embellishments are delightful. I will add this to my ‘To Do ‘ list as I have a few of old books that would work well I am sure. Thank you for your inspiriation and clear easy to follow instructions. Warmest best wishes, Susanne
I just found an old LIFE atlas from 1961 at our local second hand shop and I cannot wait to start altering it starting with your ideas. I will show you what it ends up looking like. Thanx again for posting this exciting project!
I have been watching video after video on mixed media projects for about a week now. I really like this video and how she instructs as she goes. I understood the instructions, products used, and could see what she was doing just fine. I like she didn't leave out parts and I could easily follow her from beginning to end. I love old atlases and now, using the info from this video to jump off from, I have several ideas of my own how to re-purpose old atlases and books when I find them. Thank You!
France, I have been an admirer for years and watched as you and your art grew into your creative gifts. Your art and your story are so inspiring. I enjoy watching you create and listening to your soothing voice. This is such a great way to disguise the more mundane necessary life tasks. Thank you for sharing your creativity and inspiring me to always reach for that next star.
I never would have thought to use the blue, and I love the sepia antique distressed look! I wish I had the ambition, I have never figured out the best way for me to put in the paper. Thank you for this. I really enjoyed it!
Really stunning and I love how you intend to use it. I know I would be much more inspired to keep my papers organized if they "lived" in a beautiful home such as this! TFS!
This turned out to be a very attractive/artsy functional journal - I love the color scheme! I have an old book that I am making my art journal with inspiration from your weekly videos and NOW I know what to do with the cover! Thanks so much for sharing! ang
I bind books. Instead of being 'painful;, you know.. I thought that this is really an elegant way of expressing what a book can be. I really like the concept of re-purposing a book like the atlas in this way.. in a way it makes it into an atlas of the creative genius. Added a new layer of depth to the background of mixed-media.
This would be fun to do by leaving the pages in and turning it into a travel journal. With maps as the background, the journal pages would look awesome!
Do you mean more than just mention them in speech bubbles during the video Gail? I do have most of my video with product lists on my blog. For this video, it's right here, on my (very) old blog ;) papillon-sur-la-branche.blogspot.com/2014/08/altered-atlas.html
Gosh, it took me back to school days when we HAD TO mend & cover text books, a few of the same methods too (if I'd known then....?) It will certainly make filing a more pleasurable, grungey experience for you & gives a few more pockets of storage at the same time. As you say "Ta dah!"😊
This is absolutely beautiful! Your so talented!! I've never seen this done before, I'm always searching for new arts and crafts to try, I forsure want to give something similar a go.
Yes, I see that. I just see the art in atlases and it makes my heart hurt when anyone "reuses" a book. I respect what you do, but I would have to go take some color laser copies and use those and leave the book intact.
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful 👏👏👏💕🦋 Funny Fact: the piece on the fashion pattern was in Polish ( I’m Polish and I do speak and write/read it) , it said “Suknia Sportowa obwód 22cm” - which means “ sporty dress, waist 22 cm” 😂- it tickles me when I can find things like that on ephemera. 🙌
So refreshing to see some techniques that are not ‘same old’, ‘same old’. Thank you!
Such an amazing idea. I love it. You gave a whole new life to that old book.
I love all your projects. You motivate me and you have great ideas and style.
I love this journal. I have watched you for years and you are so inspiring. Thank you for sharing. ❤️
Your ingenuity and creativity blow my fricken mind.
