- You've likely seen videos about the Great Emu War of 1932, but did you know the location is driveable from Perth? One of Western Australia's most famous internet stories - where soldiers attempted to cull tens of thousands of migrating emu's with machine guns (and lose) - happened just off the Great Eastern Highway in a small town called Walgoolan. The town of Campion was also affected, but there's nothing left to see of that. Walgoolan still has farms nearby but while the township is also abandoned, it's at least worth exploring. I've spotted the derelict town hall and tennis club several times over the years. Let's delve into the history of the Emu War and discover what's left of Walgoolan!

Merry christmas to you and your partner, hope you have a relaxed holiday season, mind all the idiots on the roads
Fairly certain that I spotted you in Elizabeth Quay earlier in the month, but missed my opportunity to say that your content is fantastic and shedding light on our rich WA history. Thank you for a great year of content!
Hey, you should look up the online "contaminated site map" there are soooo many interesting places/stories found within the perth area, i discovered the site while researching an old toxic dumping site in Gosnels. Great content mate :)
Underrated channel. Love your work mate
I love all this history that you don't normally hear about. Thank you for all your hard work.
another instant classic (I’m the fan who said hi on the street the other day btw!)
Thanks for saying hi :D
You missed the tin shack out the back. There is one occupied house (Which I think might have been either the bank or Elders store or both) a derelict house next to it, and an old tin house further out. I did a little exploration on this one about a decade ago, and believe me, there's more out there. Likewise, look up Yellowdine more closely, and the various other ghost towns along the way
4:25 does the tyre marks look like skeletal Emu legs?
Well done Brendan on another great video🎉
Yeh did some sandalwood harvesting around there, found some bullets that probably remnants of the emu wars, also found an old wooden wagon ,abandoned many many decades ago along with remnants of an old fire completewith Billy still hanging over the remnants of the fireand a pile of pick axe brand beer bottles ,nearby...cool stuff...
Another fantastic and informative video
I saw you getting on my Perth bound train at Bayswater on Monday dude!! :D
Fascinating, thanks Brendan!
I really appreciate the way you present these mini documentaries, good humour and well researched. There's a lot to love about our great state. Merry Christmas Brendan, I look forward to the next instalment.
Well done. I love this WA history.
Excellent little video. Ive lived in the wheatbelt for years and didnt actually realise the Emu Wars was a real thing. I thought it was a long standing joke. 🤣
Cheers. 🍻
Makes me happy seeing you get around the state before some of these places turn to dust
Look at you go.
This is what I’m talking about. Good work.
I always thought the Emu Wars were a meme! But they actually happened! 😮Thanks for the film and Merry Christmas!
Another great video buddy
love your videos 😊
I mentioned the Emu War on a discord group just yesterday, how timely of you to release this! Might have to visit someday :)
Great video as always ! looking forward to popping into this town someday! thanks for the infomation!
I don't know if I've asked already, but could you make a video about the last diesel suburban trains in Perth were sold to Auckland in New Zealand and continued to operate until 2022?
Fascinating. Thank you.
Thanks Brendon! Happy Christmas and all the best for the new year 🎉🎉
Another great vid, thanks Brendan.
Should come do some exploring around the Katanning area!
Hi Brendan are you still interested in researching the Perth entertainment centre? I may have the best lead yet on actual location as I stubbled on an extremely detailed picture of PEC and the surrounding landscape architecture and buildings .
I’m older enough to remember this place and would like to see it remembered.
How can I provide you with the photo with out it being public?
As I prefer you as the one that may or may not feature a follow up story.
Ps. I would post it publicly if you can’t use the information to be fair to others interested in the history of this significant piece of history. Regards mate keep up the good work
You can find my email in the description :)
Whitby Falls coach house would be an interesting one. My Great Great Grandfather built it.
Not sure what's happening with the Great Emu War movie with John Cleese!
totally forgot about all the road works from perth>
The amount of carnage of native animals that’s been caused in the name of sheep and wheat in this state is astronomical! Sweet video … love your research.
It's weird how many people still think the emus won the 'war' when the facts clearly say the opposite! Even in the first 'battle' the emus lost some 'troops' whereas the Aussie soldiers didn't lose any so I'd say the soldiers won that 'battle'. The second 'battle' was far more successful for the soldiers with again no losses for them and thousands of dead emus. So the 'war' overall was successful for the soldiers as they saved what remained of the wheat crops that the emus were destroying. The only reason they didn't continue in the same way was because better methods were discovered, mainly fences and the bounty system. There were also protests about the ethics of it though I'm not sure if the government was too concerned about that. They usually aren't, sadly. I think you did a good job of explaining it and another great video under your belt! 👍
Despite Australia's proud military, this was a battle where they failed dismally.
Nice video!
Another great video, a question what drone is it you use on your trips?
Thanks, mate. I use a DJI Mini 3.
I think the military just saw a good excuse to use their machine guns.
would you do the old Powerstation intertwine Fremantle and Rockingham
Looks almost post apocalyptic 😍
A bit Mad Maxey, isn't it?
sand stone is intrestning
You cant be out of Kal footage.. carn, make with the Kal and pipeline footage!
(Hammond Park, great place. even better if you worked there.. lol. Using a rake to fend off an Emu, I won.)
