Thank you for simplifying the basic electrical components and the general process for residential units. I went to a technical college for HVACR. Every student would do well if they go over this video and committed it to memory. Watch this video over and over again until you grasp these basics. This is your foundation, this video committed to memory!

Very good explanation. I have degree in electrical engineering but hardly have done any wiring myself. Your white board wiring diagram and explanation is worth day long course. Can easily cost couple of hundred bucks to get this traning. This helped me to trace down my external fan problem. With the help of mutlimeter I found the switch not closing correctly. Replacing the relay switch fixed the problem. Thank you. Shaking video is a thing you need to work on. That aside, great video and thank you for sharing.

This is perfect lesson for me as I spent my career in electronics, and a pretty good technician if I do say so myself(maybe not the smartest but the most persistent and stubborn). I learned how thermostats work after installing a few (it's basically a simple switching device without getting too techy- sounding--in fact there's a small relay inside each and you can hear the relay click when it comes on). I started looking at my own AC unit and started at the fan circuit cuz that's what I could access. I'm working on replacing the fan relay with a SPDT SSR which I wired up meself. I still have to test it. Anyway, this is great as it gives me the rest of the picture quick and dirty. Thanks. (I'd like to fix an AC unit one day.)
