King Pin wear..Keep them greased with a good high quality grease to push out water and debris. If you ignore the problem you eventually wallow out the hole and the entire front axle beam or spindle has to be replaced because the hole is now oversized. Always check if the play is coming from a lose or worn front bearings before starting the king pin job. Excellent Video to learn from.

Had a Peter built twin steer in the shop last week every king pin came out that easy had to send the I beam out to get resleeved lol
Usually im heating and beating each king pin for an hour each up in Canada. Had all 4 king pins stripped and Axel's out in 3.5 hours

In most trucks usually the bushings are made of a softer metal like Brass or Bronze designed to wear before ruining (over-sizing) the Axle beam or spindle. A lot cheaper to replace bushings than an entire Axle. Dont forget U-joints need fresh grease often to push the moisture trapped in there out also. Look for a water resistant and heat resistant grease designed for a high bearing load. Old school chassis grease is O.K. but not the best.

just recently had this done to my truck, now the steering feels tight. The truck also wont steer itself out of turns under power, is that common?

      For new mechanics ,
Have someone apply the brakes to distinguish play from the king pin and wheel bearings .
Stemco Kaiser spiral bushings are easy to install .
Tap out aluminum hubcap holes with a 5/16”-18 tap and install new bolts .
Always look for the correct procedure for tightening the wheel bearings .
Axle wedges two different lengths and only remove and install in one direction .

After a front end rebuild like this, the toe in should be checked too.

Always jack up the front axle/beam so the front tires can spin and then grease the front end. The grease can’t get into the kingpins as well when all the weight is on them.
That’s one reason your king pins go bad faster.
