I've carried on for many years. It is after all, a hammer-fired handgun, with a revolver-like trigger pull. Mine is actually lighter then any of my J-frame revolvers.
I recently picked up a nice used Bodyguard at my local shop. Came with the box, paperwork, 2 magazines and the nylon range bag. I buy alot of guns from them, so they let me have it for $144. Someone had just traded it in and they let me have it for what they had in it. I bought 2 more magazines and a Sticky pocket holster for it. I've got several kinds of ammo for it- my wife has a Taurus 380 and I had a Glock 42 for my 380. I like Glocks but the Glock was just too big for a pocket gun. And the Smith came with nice metal sights, not plastic. And I like the option of having a safety. I love my Smith 642 38 snub. But the 380 is lighter, smaller and holds more shots. I've been grabbing the little 380 more and more instead of the 38 when I go out. The Bodyguard also makes a great small gun to carry around the house. It's been taking my NAA 22 LR mini revolvers place on that role. Oh, mine is the later M&P model without the laser, which I don't really want anyway. Does your Bodyguard like any particular ammo better than others ?
@@shadowwolf9503 I'd snatch up another one in a heartbeat for $144. Mine has never been ammo picky. I carry it with Federal HST or Hydra-Shok. I've never tried HST Punch or Hydra-Shok Deep in it, but both do sound interesting.
@@jaydee5156 Yeah, I just couldn't turn the Bodyguard down for the price. I'm a Smith guy anyway. I sold my Glock 380 after I picked up the Smith. I really like it's features much better. Stainless slide, barrel and guide rod, a safety, real- metal sights and smaller and lighter than the Glock. And Smith has great customer service. I called them last week to order a new guide rod and recoil springs. I like to change these out anytime I get a used auto. They quickly sent them to me- and at no charge ! Just great service !
I own both the Max and the Bodyguard. Great little pistols. Each one has it's good and bad points but you really can't go wrong with either one for a pocket carry gun. I bought my Bodyguard first, and later picked up the LCP Max. No complaints about either pistol, both are so easy to carry you almost forget you have them on you.
Bought one yesterday new used for275 went to range today with 50 rounds of ficcioh. Defense Ammon and 50 rounds of range Ammo not a issues love this little 380 mine is non laser one was bought by some they put one mag through it said was ne snappy so they returned it got 3 mags with it.
Guy, this is an awesome compact pistol, this is one of my favorites! Thank you for the report! It seemed snappy at first, but I seemed to quickly adjust to it. The 380 Bodyguard is a great option in my opinion. Glad you're liking yours!
Had one for years and then gave it to my son when he moved into new apartment. Found another, slightly used, $237 out the door at my LGS last month. All the micro 9mm are making these little .380s more affordable used.
I find group therapy at the range relaxing as well. I love my S&W M&P Bodyguard for pocket backup. It has been accurate, reliable and eats everything I feed it. Thanks for the video and keep shooting 👍.
Thank you for the great words Kieth, and thank you for watching. I definitely need good stuff in my life right now. With everything going to hell, I have to get out and have an escape. I love hitting the gym, shooting, and riding my motorcycle. This keeps me sane! Have a great weekend brother!
Bought the bodyguard 380 the day of my 21st been carrying it for 10 years. Only issue I had was the takedown lever popped out upon recoil sent it in to S&W they fixed it & sent it back quick turnaround nonissues since.
I have one of the originals. The only 2 complaints I have is 1) the Insight laser eats batteries. 2) that trigger is loooooong. Other than that it is the perfect pocket pistol. I consider it a get off me gun so I can get the full grown ones if needed.
I have owned and carried a M&P Bodyguard 380 with a Crimson Trace Green Laser. I prefer double strike capability for pocket sized semi-automatic pistols. With the fact that most .380acp hollow point rounds fail to expand fully and when they do expand fully they do not adequately penetrate. I "CHOOSE" to carry "Flat Nosed, Solid Rounds", which deflect less that round nose bullets.
Traded in my Taurus g3c for a used bodyguard 380 w insight laser for a total of $25. Love my hellcat pro 9mm and love pockets and saw myself using/practicing with this more than the Taurus since I’ve grown as a shooter and prefer a more quality 9mm. It’s like my Ruger LCP Max, but identifies as a revolver. So far very happy :)
I’ve had a few of these! Pretty much hated everything about it. I have been carrying a Kahr p380 in a Vedder pocket locker which just disappears in front pocket. Been considering a Glock 42 but I know it’s a bit larger. Only other options are lcp’s which are junk in my opinion. I had a LCP max that would rust just sitting in the safe. Only other option is this bodyguard. Haha. May be in my pockets again soon
Smith and Wesson installs Crimson Trace lasers in the Bodyguard now, but the model you have there is probably 10 to 12 years old and is equipped with a laser from INSIGHT.
@@n721sw It's definitely older than that. I've had mine since around 2012 and I do love it as well. The gray button for the laser is the giveaway. It's also marked for the Insight laser on the frame. S&W switched to CT around 2014-15 and incorporated the Bodyguard into the M&P line.
I bought one without laser, which I think is worthless for what the gun is intended for, years ago new, for $250 on black friday. Great shooter. Got some Gold Dots for it back then cheap. If I didn't have them I would be running flat nose FMJs. A short stroke trigger job is a game changer. That and a plus 1 mag extension makes gripping the gun much better. Even with the trigger job the external safety is a waste. It can be removed and a block put in its place. There are much better options at the current price point... like a Canik.
Thanks for the reply, I would definitely be interested in the trigger mod. That would make it even better. It’s a great pocket pistol, it opens up more carry options for sure.
I just bought that gun and it only came with one mag clip and no soft case and no extra batteries for the laser. I was told that you have to send off the entire gun if the laser goes out maybe I need to contact Smith & Wesson and let them know I’m not happy that I had to buy extra clipsand didn’t get everything that the gun was supposed to come with
@@colbrapaintingny3219 I own both and love them both. Even though the Bodyguard has less capacity, it's a little bit thinner and is less bulky for pocket carry. Not by a lot, but it's noticeable in my DeSantis pocket holster. Some like to carry these without a pocket holster, whatever floats your boat. I prefer to keep the trigger covered for safety. Mine shoots very well and so does my Max. The trigger pull on the Bodyguard is a bit long and heavy, but this makes it safer to pocket carry. Both are nice pocket .380's. A side note....the sights on both pistols are cross compatible. You could install the night sights from a Max on your Bodyguard, they fit the dove tails in the slide.
