Yes! Yes! I asked a preacher once, if a man raped a child every day, and repented every day, was he going to heaven. And he said yes. So , as Christian, we can do anything to humanity as long as we repent it before we go to sleep. That's why I walked away from organized religion years ago.

Disgustingly wrong. That is not true repentance. Repentance is not in their heart.
The Pastor, like so many today is interpreting the Bible to suit his ways rather than to suit God’s ways.

@@cowgirljane3316 God judges what is in our heart at the time we ask forgiveness.
I believe if we sinning all we want, just because all we have to do is ask forgiveness, God knows that person is using him.
Having said that, it’s hard to stop something that we feel is wrong. I tried for years to quit smoking cause I felt it was wrong. I couldn’t do it. Every night I would ask God to forgive me for being so weak. But then one day, I stopped and I stopped for Good. But God knew I really wanted to stop. I am not saying give church another try, but if you haven’t done it yet give God another try. He’s been by my side all my life, even if sometimes I wasn’t there best. We are not perfect, but God knows our hearts, he knows if we truly love him or if we are using him for gain.

@ Philthefisherofmen yes, for the one millionth time I have been asked this question. I was completely “sold out for Jesus” as we used to say.
With all due respect back to you, this is just about the most condescending thing you can ask an ex Christian. Please do me and others like me the courtesy of believing us when we say we were true, Bible believing, spirit filled, born again Christians. My journey out of faith has not been easy but has been extremely rewarding. Coming to the realization that everything you’ve believed and held dear your whole life is mythology is a hard, brave thing to do.

Your problem is you took your eyes off of Jesus (do not know if you ever kept your eyes on him) and put them on man. True Christianity is not immoral as you would have us believe. If you were filled with the Holy Spirit you would not be agnostic. So I really doubt you had a relationship with Jesus. God made it that when we point a finger at others ,3 of our own point back at us. It gets sickening to hear I am no longer a believer. You never were in the 1st place. Because if you were you would know the beautiful love of Jesus and how much He denied himself and was beat up more than any man,to redeem you to Pure love. Yes it is true where the sheep are ,there are also wolves who make believe they are Christians and try to destroy peoples faith. A person who has a pure heart and walks and lives in the spirit can thank the Good Lord. Church is not a denomination but where two or more are gathered in His name . The church is believers and Christ is the chief cornerstone. Sad to see such a bad title

@@Philthefisherofmen Continuing with answering the last first, all this got here through natural processes. No creator needed. Yes, I consider myself an Agnostic Atheist. More directly, I cannot be certain whether or not there is some sort of higher power or not, but if there is, I do not believe it will be even remotely like the god of the Bible. You’re an atheist when it comes to Odin, Osiris, Zeus, Allah, or Vishnu, correct? Why? Because you see no evidence for their existence, even though all of those gods have or once had sincerely devoted followers who testify to the reality of their deities with anecdotes galore. The difference between you and me is that after much study of the Bible, especially the Old Testament, and then learning the actual historical record of how Yahweh evolved over time from an obscure Canaanite tribal deity to the God Christians worship today, I realized there is no difference between God and Odin, Osiris, etc. Religion is a human construct people have always found useful because it is an avenue to wealth and power.
I am a more moral person today than I was as a Christian. I am kinder. I am all those things because I want to be - not out any sense of duty or fear of displeasing god. I’m definitely a better listener. Less judgmental. More generous. I enjoy and appreciate life more than ever. Most of all, I have peace.

@@RuthZeeck Jesús is not a sham. You will find out on judgement day. I would be real careful because God says He gives people over to a Reprobate mind. Believing a lie they will be damned for eternity. The father of lies ,the devil has many people thinking all these different gods are the same. Jesus said true Religion is to help the orphans and widows in their affliction and to keep oneself unspotted from this world, not for wealth and power. We are to take care of the poor share our wealth with those who are less fortunate. Being a Christian is to deny oneself. To live for God Almighty. You really were not a Christian if you say you are now more moral. No Holy Spirit in your church life, very sad indeed. Being born again means to be filled with the Holy Ghost. About the verses you quoted from Acts 3 and suggested that the prophet (as in singular, not plural) Moses foretold Israel us was going to be "Christian ministers" is not accurate. The people Moses was saying this prophet would come from were the 12 tribes of Israel and that prophet was none other than Jesus Christ himself, who came out of the tribe of Judah, not a Christian apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor or teacher who came out of a seminary. In fact, Jesus rejected the "seminary graduates" of His day and I don't think He is pleased with many today who, like you once did, think they are "God's (unchallenged) voice" to their brothers and sisters in Christ. This is totally contrary to scripture.
Jesus said His sheep would HEAR His voice, and through knowing and hearing His voice would thus follow Him, not ministers.
The most prominent description of a Christian "church service" in scripture is found in 1 Corinthians 14. The prophets (Spirit-inspired speakers) were to be 2 or 3 in number and what they spoke was to be judged by those listening. No one got a free pass. The church was to determine if what they spoke was "the word of God" or not. The idea of a "pastor" monologuing to his "congregation for 30 min to an hour without any questions asked was not an early church practice (read Pagan Christianity). In fact, per the apostle Paul, any brother present in the assembly could "prophesy" (speak under interpretation)...as long as all things were "done decently and in order."
Here you say you used to teach that ministers were this special prophet Moses spoke of, but it's not true. It's plain to see in context that Jesus Christ was that special prophet, and since He was the Son of God anyone who did not (does not) hear His word, not the minister's word, would be cut off from an eternal inheritance in His kingdom.
Tho what I just typed is apostolic teaching few Christians can receive it. Why? Because their pastor is "the voice of God" to them, not the voice of Jesus himself. 😢

I completely understand. I grew up going to a Presbyterian church. As a child, church was boring and I didn’t understood half of what he said. Sunday school was good and the teacher was obviously a Christian. I found Christianity was more alive in the inter-denominational holiday mission that came to where we went for holiday each year.
I remember when the minister at my Presbyterian church was talking about the vote for amalgamation with other Protestant churches. He wanted the congregation to vote against it. I’d always been curious about why there were so many different churches so I made it my mission to find out and decided I wouldn’t join a church until I found the one with the truth. It did take years and to cut a long story short, I ended up joining the Adventist church because they followed the Bible and understood it. They were able to answer any of my questions, with bible references. I had a great pastor but after moving away and going to different locations, I am now finding a lot of the people in the church I started to attend most recently to be “exclusive”. I don’t feel part of it and haven’t been attending. It feels like a bit of a club. If you didn’t grow up in it you feel like you’re on probation. Maybe it’s just me. 🤷‍♀️ One thing I know is that I would never be part of a church that speaks in tongues. The bible talks about how that is only to be used in specific situations, or it does not come from God. I avoid those situations. I’ve been amongst it and it even feels evil. At one Bible study I was invited to by a friend a guy put his hand on my head and said he was going to pray for me to have the gift of tongues. The whole time , I prayed so hard that if this was what God wanted then I accept it but it didn’t feel right. Afterwards he said I had “resisted” it. I felt like I escaped something evil to be honest. They sounded possessed when they started speaking in tongues. They couldn’t tell me anything they had said to God. Their praise is like they’re on a high. They don’t even study the Bible. That was in someone’s home. The congregations I’ve seen seem to enjoy the music and the high. Not true, humble worship.
I can completely relate to you. 😊

I was born into a southern baptist family in Tennessee as a biological intersex baby. The doctor made the wrong call regarding my gender at birth and my family knew it. I was forced to wear a dress at christian school mocked and taunted by christian kids, excluded and shamed by their christian parents and whipped through third grade by christian teachers for masculine behavior I could not help. Tennessee has already removed my birth certificate last year forcing me back to gender at birth. Trump plans to enforce the Tennessee law nationally on tax paying working American Citizens born here just like me. What would Jesus do about this situation? The forced outings of paper work legal ID will affects thousands of people like me already in hiding just trying to live our life. Our life becomes more dangerous when the wrong people find out through forced outings. I will be unable to fly and airline as ID does not match internal and external presentation. Yet still I cling to those Red Letters of the New Testament. One time when I was in ministry, I was thinking about how we could be more of an “Acts 2 Church.” You know, an EARLY CHRISTIAN CHURCH, when they were REALLY Christian before the church got so screwed up! So, I’m digging around in the New Testament letters, and all of a sudden it dawns on me that the Church has ALWAYS been screwed up. It’s right there, in the Bible. Hiding in plain sight. I think there’s ONE New Testament letter where the letter writer is like, “You guys are doing a great job!” Every other letter, the writer is saying, “Guys. You’re effing this up. Stop sleeping with each other. Stop fighting about stupid stuff. Etc. Etc. Etc.” Even in the book of Acts, we get exactly ONE CHAPTER away from Peter explaining the whole Pastor thing, and BANG! Right off the bat, in Chapter 5, the Holy Spirit is smiting Ananias and Sapphira for stealing from the church till. And then apostles are arguing about what’s kosher and what’s not kosher. Whether they should let in that sort of person or this sort of person. St Peter is a bigot. St Paul is too woke. From the start, this Church experiment has not worked very well. If you want to do good, enjoy community, and eat a meal with friends, join Rotary or the Lions Club or something.
And, another thing: Who ever thought putting ONE person on a pedestal and not questioning them was a good idea? Acts 3? Yeesh! There’s a lot of dumb organizational management advice in the Bible, but that passage is just ridiculous. Not only because, in some denominations, it makes the pastor absolutely powerful and likely to tilt toward corruption; but also because it makes the pastor (and the pastor’s spouse and kids, if they’re allowed to marry) profoundly isolated and lonely, and more likely to deal with the isolation in profoundly unhealthy, damaging ways.
And there is another side to clergy scandals. Depending on the church, sometimes it’s the Church Board who pulls all sorts of power plays on the pastor. Will they get a cost of living raise or not? Are they visiting enough? Are they working enough hours? And a big one in this era of church decline: Are they bringing in new members? The pressure of congregational ministry is ridiculous, even in smaller to midsize churches-not just the mega-churches. Some pastors cope with this in healthy ways, like going to therapy. Some pastors are irresponsible with the pressure and hurt others. Watch the Ethan Hawke film “First Reformed” for a brilliant example of how this dynamic works. I came to the conclusion that the flaws of the church weren’t just the fact that the church is a “hospital for sinners.” From the get-go in the Book of Acts-the church itself is a “sinner factory.” That said, some churches are healthy in spite of this crazy model, but the majority of congregations I served were unhealthy. I am so, so glad to be out of it!

One of the big problems is that the Church follows Paul, not Jesus. Jesus said he will judge us on our love and compassion and how we responded to the least of these. He won't ask us what church we go to or even what religion we are. Or even if we said the Sinner's Prayer!
His only criteria are to feed the hungry, clothe and house the poor, welcome the stranger, alien, immigrant. He's really going to get the trumpers on that last one.

I was raised in the evangelical church (not religious now) and was taught almost the same thing, except when you repent, you have to 1. Be genuinely remorseful, and 2. Intend on not doing it again. Then, the sin will be washed away. But if you do it repeatedly, you're not ACTUALLY remorseful, you're making a mockery of the lord, and the sin will not be forgiven.

My mother was a fundamentalist and the pastor of her church was seen as a “ godly man” etc. Anyway about twenty years ago I had a second job delivering pizza. I went to this house one night and rang the doorbell to deliver the pizza the house was having a huge party. When the door opened you could smell the pot smoke and there was girls with very short dresses on etc. There was bottles all over the coffee table and in the middle of two very scandalous looking women sat the preacher of my moms church. He was drunk as hell and had one of his hands on the knee of one of the girls. He was a hellfire brimstone preacher too. The hypocrisy is unbelievable. Do you know who Jordan Maxwell is?? The conspiracy guy?? Anyway he’s pretty interesting and I’m definitely skeptical about a lot of his stuff yet he does know a lot about esoteric type stuff. Anyway my point is that he was saying on a UA-cam video of his that he has a friend down in Miami or someplace like that. This friend of his owns a whole chain of liquor stores. Anyway his friend told him about once a month Paul and Jane Crouch use to pull up in this van and buy boxes and boxes of cases of liquor. Tell me that’s not funny. Lol.

43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’
44 “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’
45 “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.

I have so many thoughts but primarily I want to know are you talking about Church of the Highlands in Birmingham (that’s where I’m from). If so I want to know if you are aware that they have a multi-million dollar facility where where they “council” these pastors who do things like this - they bring them here from all over the country - and then place them in new churches that are completely oblivious and shun anyone who says anything about it.

Speaking as a former evangelical myself who was headed into the ministry, the core problem with any fundamentalist religion of any stripe is this: Literalism is the language of childhood. Becoming an adult requires moving beyond literalsm into the ability to think in terms of metaphor. Most of what the church teaches as literal history is better understood as metaphor for internal processes.

A Christian relative gave me a book by Ravi Zacharias (The Real Face of Atheism) a year or two ago trying to argue that atheism is wrong. I started reading it and it was a terrible book. It was full of straw man arguments against science and was primarily one big argument from consequence, that we need Christianity to keep the world from falling into depravity. Well, apparently it didn't work for Ravi.

I am Catholic and there is no such a thing as "I didn't do it" in the Catholic doctrine. It is different from the Protestants/Evangelicals. Sin is like dirt in your soul. If you confess to a priest (face to face) the sin will be forgiven but you will face the consequences of the act. That is why Catholic Church believe in the Purgatory. You will remain there till your purge your sins because it will be unbearable to be in front of Perfection in state of sin. On top of that, if somebody asked if you have done something (a sin) and you lie, go back to confession cause lying is another sin. You are not supposed to lie. There is no such a thing as "the sin has never happened".
One more thing, if you sin and don't feel guilt you don't love the Lord as you should. It is not a game.
It seems to me that in Protestantism, in the Evangelical churches, etc, there are a patchwork of Bible interpretations.

Purgatory. Oh, yeah, the place where all those babies who used to be in "limbo" got shuffled to when the Catholic church decided that the concept of Limbo for dead infants wasn't cool anymore. LOL

I agree with you partly. Born and raised RCC. Born again at 18. Went to most Protestant churches and found they are all Catholic wannabe's. The whole of Christianity is marred with horrible, demonic acts against humanity and the corruption continues till this day with little to no accountability and no repercussions. Add to that, there is corruption and lack of accountability in every sector of society! These could be the very last of the last days. And I do agree with you, if you sin against the FATHER, it should make you sick, hurt your heart. HE gives us perimeters to keep us safe in this Valley of the Shadow of Death. Peace

Ditto in Eastern Orthodox Christianity. You cannot be free of the consequences of your wrongdoings, whether in this life or after. Only evangelical Christianity seems to suffer from this spirit of 'I don't think that I need to face the music' for whatever.....

The problem with the so called scandals is Christianity's foolish and shortsighted views on Sexuality, Marriage etc. I just discussed this with a still evangelical friend of mine who was lamenting that he is not married or does not have kids. In order to be legitimate or acceptable to them you must be married with kids in a monogamous heterosexual marriage. You must fit into this little box in order to be considered 'legitimate':. It is such an idiotic and short sighted view not taking into account the fact that more than half of marriages end for one reason or another and that not everyone can or should be a parent over a child. The fact is humans are really not designed (if you want to use that word) for lifelong unions. In our evolutionary past our ancestors moved in nomadic groups and raised children as a group. The whole marriage thing came about in order to control women's reproduction and guarantee the paternity of children.

Yes and because we want to give everyone the 'benefit of the doubt', behaviors go unchecked. I had a pastor make a sexual pass at me. I am from the North, he is a Southerner. I assumed maybe he didn't know what that meant. (He had shook my hand and scratched the middle of my palm. Where I come from that meant you wanted to have sex with the person!) I asked a friend who I knew had been pretty worldly in the past if she knew what it meant. Sure enough, she knew! I still CONvinced myself that the pastor would never do that to me. He was married. I was married. I NEVER gave him a hint that I was interested. But then at a later event when I was pregnant he made a creepy comment about me. I told my husband and we left the church. It was really starting to click with us, that there was ZERO accountability in ANY churches. And we see that now in every sector of society.
