Great start, Beware of concrete poisoning over time. The dust especially but contact with wet cement also build up reactions by your body over time. You can dump the bags into a plastic tub and shovel or better yet, buy bulk sand, gravel and cement - you will save lots of material. Some folks put wheels on the mixer so they can dump into the forms - you can make a chute to keep the mess down - saves one more move of product. You are right, we should have worn masks around the dry concrete mix. We did wear gloves to avoid contact with wet concrete. We are aware of the option to mix our own sand/gravel/cement, but for the amount we needed for the piers we decided it's a small enough quantity that bagged mix makes sense for us. Neither of us is from Texas :)
We wanted to be able to get the footing forms out before we backfill as high as the tube requires. Also if there is no footing, it would be much harder to hold the tube without extra setup. In other piers that are deeper we are going to use a plastic "square foot" for a footing and then will be able to pour it in one go as the square foot is designed to go together with the tube.
Wow. In the time it took you to do one pier, with such precision, you could have expedited all of them and shimmed any differences after the concrete set. Just my perspective. Also, the vapor barrier between footing and pier could probably set up corrosive electrolysis which would destroy the rebar, resulting in an unstable base. In this case, it won't matter, but something to consider in the future.
@@AdventurousWay Yes, I am different. I am lazy, but my renovation customers keep calling me back for more projects. However, I decided, at 68, it is wise to get my home projects done, like multiple shed construction, which I will get to, sometime, maybe. Can only do one at a time.
That's always an option, but we'd prefer to get it right first time if possible. Grinding or cutting the bolt short can remove the galvanized zinc coating on the outside of the bolt which then needs to be protected. Furthermore, if they're too long then we'd have to raise the string-line over the top of the highest bolt, which just leaves more margin for error in future. Of course we're erring on the side of too long rather than too short because as much as we want to get it right, it's much easier to grind some off than add some on!!
I loved the way you managed the concrete base. And a question, wasn’t there any other way than concrete, I mean a sustainable material, rocks and kind of a soil probably? Either ways you are doing a great job. All the loving ❤

Keep watching though, as we are planning to use an exciting sustainable alternative to XPS foam board for our sub-slab insulation!
CONSTRUCTIVE ( HELPFUL ) Advice about ( DIRECTIONS ) People tend to NOT understand the Common Methods used. This Example should help. When a MIX calls for a gallon. It should be added in slow ( SMALL ) amounts . Put some water in the mixer first. Say Half. Then add in the dry bags as you go along. Mixing times will greatly effect the finished product. Just like heat, Temps, Altitude, and more. ACCORDING to what YOUR Clip here shows. A Dry MIX is More along the lines of what took place. BED ROAK is NOT the same as Virgin ( MOSITURE ) Rich soils Process. Clue for you BOTH. GO SLOW. Pre wet ( ADD ) water to all the Rock surfaces first. If two bags is TWO MUCH cut it down to one. Better to have a Slight FLOW ( OR ) SLUMP when deal with Rock Hard areas . Then to Pour it Mostly DRY and FIGHT the OUTCOME each step of the way. ( I have over 5 plus decades of construction applications and growing. From Industrial/ Commercial ( Residential ) and D. I. Y. First time advice being offered. The Bag Details are under controlled settings only. YOU need to adjust and adapt to each hole being dealt with. Listen to me now ( AVOID ) heartache and additional expenses later. BY the way. Re-Bar in the vertical sense SHOULD not be Cris crossed. Who Ever told you that was NOT understanding the Reason for it to be there. YOU want equal support ( Top to bottom ) This Act create ( OPPOSITE effects) and can sauce Pre - mature Failure due to lack of internal Forces working against you . Last butt not least. Check ( Double Check ) Check it all over again. The Foundation means every thing else ifs Corrected or Deflected from what was not DONE Before hand along the way. The details, the precision...you are doing very well. The sono tube jig was a super idea. Im not sure I'd have the patience you two have .

Everything looks great, but you really need to wear a mask when working with the dry concrete. That concrete dust is really bad for you.
You're 100% right, we should have done. We quickly learned to stay well away from the cement mixer until it was well mixed.
Why so precise with the anchor bolt? Leaving extra can be ground off after the plate is installed. This allows for any miscalculation.
That's always an option, but we'd prefer to get it right first time if possible.
