We hired a DS on our last trip to Europe (we dont get them in Australia) and l was very impressed with it. Once one worked out how all the controls and buttons worked it was very enjoyable.
“All the controls and buttons….” Says it all. Why? Mind you Evan Apple have dived deep into pointless functionality which requires a phd to get on top off. Make it simple and purposeful, like Te……
We've had one on lease for a couple of years. My partner loves it so much she wants to get another once the lease is up. It does most things well, not too big, quite stylish with a fairly high seating position which ticked most the boxes.
I've only ever driven my EV in one pedal mode as I find it removes all stress from motoring, even in congested traffic. I agree that the DS looks like a high quality product.
My mot guy commented having freed the rear brake callipers on my wife’s 12 year old Freelander that he’s having to do a lot of EVs as the brakes don’t get used.
Good to see Stellantis making sensible size EVs for European roads and those only needing a small car. Is there a Sports mode that would give better response?
Great review. I look forward to DS trying to back De Gaulle styling! I dont understand your comments on 1 pedal driving being ‘too quick to brake’. Basically ease off the pedal in the same way you ease onto the pedal. You should be able to make it as smooth as you want.
I like the look of it, I always thought the earlier DS models were trying to hard I think the back would be too cramped for us and it looks claustrophobic in the back. I think that would be a deal breaker. Not sure about the angles on the dash, but the seats look really good Looks nice to drive, sometimes all out handling isn't the key, if has good balance, it can be fun I assume Stellantis will use the platform on the other brands, which will be interesting
I think the DS3 would make a much more honest proposition if DS would just get rid of the rear doors and make the front doors longer. Otherwise, I like it a lot.
Just looked it up... DS3 Opera starts at £41,700 (£650/mth).... I think that is just too much! I have a Citroën E-C4. Top model is around £34,000.... It offers more space, similar design language, same battery & power.... Yet way cheaper. I am very happy with my car overall, on a day to day basis. On a long run, it's brilliant & easy to charge. What I would definitely NOT do is £8,000 more, more for a smaller car.
@Petrol Ped I just went to the DS Web site. It's easy to use and immediately offers finance and monthly figures. Of course there are deals to be done. On average the E-C4 is around £120/mth cheaper. Unless it is a leasing deal... then the prices would be closer. But I still end up with the same question. Why pay more for something smaller? Especially as DS3 is hardly a super mini DS1
I'm always surprised by the number of options that modern cars come in, can't believe it's really necessary. Not like the old days when it was base model, luxury and GT?? (if you were lucky!)
A very nice first impression review. I like the overall look on the outside but inside it looks a bit fussy. Maybe in the flesh it would look better. I have always liked the quirky features of the Citroen/DS from the 50's onwards but lately until they started with the modern DS range they had watered down their quirky and individualness from pre 80's.
I’d like to know dimensions and price of basic model. Will it fit in my garage ? Which is small. I don’t need motorway features, heads up, lane keep etc. there are no motorways.
Dude you are over 6 foot I know, that thing came to your shoulders, of all the things it may be...It ain't small! And the lack of either boot space or legroom in the back? Its a reverse Tardis!! With the prices quoted elsewhere in the comments, I ain't gonna be rushing to get one, sorry! I will agree those seats looked awesome though :)
I had two original DS3 Sports, very small, very fun and very quick. What they’ve done is the gold standard in how to ruin a good thing. It’s like a DS3 ate all the pies, then ate some more pies, then went to the factory and ate all the pies there too! Too expensive, too heavy and a completely different direction from the original cars. Hideous!
Not a fan of the new DS3, what is this fascination with the mini SUV style . Have like the DS range for a while, currently own a 'proper' DS3 3 door hatch far better looking car, great fun drive, just my opinion.
Maybe there are details individual to this car but on the whole all modern cars look pretty much the same. Put a different manufacturers badge on the front and it could be any other car on the road these days.
In't future lad when people look back on automotive history I'm sure they wonder why things went so terribly wrong in the faddy 2020s with haptic "switches" stuck on dashboard tablets and EV power trains. Can we reset the clock please.
It looks ok, but I just can't get past the fact it's French..... I had a Peugeot back in the early 90's, and I'm still suffering from the aftertaste. And consequently I wouldn't touch another Froggy-mobile with several barge-poles fastened together...... but I quite like the way you review cars, so I watched anyway.
This makes the mini range looks embarrassing....😅 Although tbf battery tech is moving on very quick so new mini I'm sure will be similar range to this. Great French accent.Tres Bien.😅
Not sure, what your exact height is, but I know my own 😂6ft 1.7 inches. With the seat in my position, I can sit…….behind myself….in my 5 door Alfasud Ti. Plus….assuming, you aren’t much taller than me, which I doubt….you could get in and out, of a late 60s designed Alfa, a lot easier as well. Headroom is okay too 😳
@@PetrolPed well, sunbeam. If I can afford to put the Sud on the road in a month’s time, I think you ought to sit behind yourself. However…..the most original RHD Sud in the World, which spent it’s first 33 years in the Kalahari Desert, does not….go out in rain 😂half the power of a modern hot hatch. Half the weight. It would be good content 😀
Cool and Funky eh? Marmite might be a better description for an over-designed Citroen. Best for singles, or couples, or a small family, but what an awful rear interior, dark, silly windows that don't open far, perfect for travel sickness. Small family? Where does the buggy go? On the roof? It certainly won't fit in the boot surely? Boot opening button down in the mud, cardinal sin. Seats 10, Car overall 0 and I don't like Marmite 😅
Sorry but as soon as you mentioned it was an EV I lost interest, good looker though as many of the DS range are and that's what first attracted my attention.
Hi Ped Appreciate your review, but have to say not a car I would ever consider. Not keen on the looks, interior space poor. Not sold on EV’s, sorry, and this is a non starter. I did own two Citroen cars many years ago, Diane which was a brilliant economy car in every sense, then a GS which was the worst car ever. Maybe that experience is still engrained on my memory.😢😢 Sorry.
Nothing against you Pete I do enjoy your content but this is indicative of future motor UA-cam content and it was boring. As for the car 🤣 it is awful, the interior is like a low rent jewellery shops offering. Disclaimer I have no interest in EV when I'm finally forced into one I'll treat it like kitchen equipment something I need but nothing I'm really bothered about. Is it comfy ? Yep cool that will do other than that they are all pretty much the same.
Oh like the Ferrari 296GTB I drive a couple of weeks ago ?! It’s no surprise that most new car launches these days are BEV or Hybrid. It’s the world we now live in 😢
Hi Pete, unfortunately I was so bored of this car (and i think you were too!) i stopped watching half It is no reflection on you but of EVs in general. I think we all now realise EVs in the current format are not going to be the future especially with the strong momentum behind Hydrogen. I do sympathise that unfortunately all new models are the dreaded EV so maybe branch out and review some classics which is now a big growing market. I would certainly not opt out half way through then !

Nice footage of the new DS 3 ! ;)
Thanks 🙏🏻
Had experience with the other DS models but that place to open the boot is a great way of getting your hands dirty as it gets covered in mud
😂😂😂
18:56 I really like the centre crease/stage in the bonnet, I haven’t seen that in a car for a long time. 👍
Had a normal c4 and loved that think ds3 nice looking car
I prefer the DS3 to the Mini. This 5 door to the Clubman.
Had 2 DS5 and loved them.
Premium brand more like Toyota-Lexus
Peugeot 208 in a posh frock, with a much nicer interior. Like the look of DS as a brand. Nice review Ped.
Thanks!
Good one Pete, never been a fan of Citrone/DS but have to say that does look a good alround offering

I enjoyed watching the Video Review. My favourite DS Model Is the 4 as It very stylish 😊
Maybe not in real life but it looks huge compared to the old one, seems much taller in particular!!! Great video Ped as always.
Thanks 👍
Great video Ped as usual. I’d love to see what one of those is like as six months of driving it in Paris
Smashed up probably 😂

Hoping to get my hands on one of those 👍

Quirky is one thing, but I really think they've gone a bit OTT on the angles. I'm sure it's comfortable, but it's definitely not my thing.

I have a DS3, it’s a year old no. You say it’s sluggish, if that’s the case it’s in eco mode. Try it in sport mode
Is yours electric ?
Yes it is, I have the DS DS3 Crossback e-tense performance line 👍
It's lost the cute car that the DS3 had in spades. Looks more like all the other electroboxes
Mama Mia!
This is a great small EV for crowded european cities.
Excellent review once again that space at the back is horrendous. Made up my mind not for me.
Evening all…
Hi 👋
More of these type of EV is what the market has been crying out for. Enough already of the mega fast, mega large and mega expensive SUVs already 😂
I agree 👍

40k for a little Citroën hatchback FFS. The car market is crazy, the electric car market is beyond parody.
All cars cost more now, not just EV’s. A base spec, entry level, petrol 1.0L 125bhp, Ford Focus is £27k, up to £43k for the top spec version.
