This was very helpful, Kathleen! Thank you! You affirmed that I’m on the right track with my numbering. I will definitely add in colored index cards for directory cards-I see how necessary they are for clear conversations to form! Also I just want to say that your kindness in answering all of our questions and your enthusiasm for this work is absolutely delightful and inspiring!
Thank you, Erin. Your questions and your eagerness to incorporate your own Zettelkasten into your life give me continued motivation to teach this topic.
Kathleen, great job. Much better explanation that you’ve done previously. Thank you. Keep up the good work. I love to see the improvements that you were making. Could you possibly do a video on how you recording from above to the cards?
I'm glad this one worked better for you. I do agree that the jellyfish version was a bit distracting from the essence of the numbering system. I can tell you how I do the recordings. I have two web cameras attached by USB to my computer. My front-facing camera is clipped to my monitor. My down-facing camera is attached to a boom arm that clamps to my desktop. I am currently using Loom to record the videos. Zoom works, but the videos are of lower quality. I record in individual segments since I cannot switch cameras in the middle of a recording session on Loom. Then I combine the segments using Clipchamp and upload them to UA-cam. I hope this helps. I'm no expert when it comes to video production. I did try a selfie stick with my phone, but I could not control the wobble and I had a hard time manipulating the cards while holding onto the selfie stick.
Because I am interested in seeing more videos from you about Zettelkasten I figured I had better ask a question. Prior to going through a book to select things to put on your bib card do you do any form of scanning, or skimming of the book st get a general idea of its contents and what you might be interested in?
Yes, absolutely. I am committed for tonight's video, but the question Joseph asks is very close to yours. He asks specifically about reading a foundational book in a new subject area, but much of what I will cover also works with any book you pick up and read. I will make a point of contrasting a foundational book with a subsequent book. To give you a specific, brief answer right here, I follow Mortimer Adler's advice in his classic How to Read a Book, which includes his advice on superficial reading before (or sometimes instead of) analytical reading. On my bib card, I always include a brief statement of why I am reading the book and I try to remind myself of my purpose as I read. Antony, thank you for asking your question. You do know how to motivate a gal.
Very helpful Lesson! Excelent!
I'm glad you found it helpful, Marcos.
