  • In month 6 of Taryl's Fuel Treatment Experiment, Taryl starts the engines mounted to his test stand to see which ones run, which ones won't, and which ones are running rough. It's starting to get interesting as we approach month #6 so you'll wanna tune in each month to see how this thing plays out. We also one-upped ourselves and added a couple more engines to the experiment. Be sure to stick around til the end for more on that. And as always, There's Your Dinner!!

I want to send a special thanks to Taryl today. This afternoon our lawnmower broke down (and just before it stopped, it was running too fast), it stopped working and wouldn't start again. My father took it to the lawnmower shop, but they were backed up with work, couldn't take our mower for at least 2 weeks. So my father brought it back home and with the knowledge I learned from your videos, I took apart the carbutrator (float bowl and needle), cleaned it and reassembled everything. I started it and after 3 pulls it was running like new again (the carbutrator was very dirty and the throttle was stuck wide open). Thank you Taryl !! Keep it up Ronnie, you're so funny

Here in Ontario Canada, our 87 octane has 15% ethanol, and most small engines aren't rated to run above 10%
But people use the 87 because it's cheaper, and think it's just a lawnmower, it doesn't need premium.
The 89 has 10% but even 10% is hard on the fuel lines and o-rings.
Now the 91 doesn't have any ethanol, so not only do we recommend that, we also use that ourselves, with K100S+. It essentially ends up being treated 93, and we haven't had any issues so far.
Great videos Taryl, sooner or later that 87 won't start, my guess is another 2 months!

Taryl - Thanks so much for this ongoing video. I have a boat that I have been winterizing for 20 years and one of the annual chores is to fill the tank with fresh fuel (65 gallons) and put a stabilizer in it. I have been using Sta-Bil for all of the boat's life. My experience has been that I have not had any fuel related trouble with my throttle body fuel injection system, but I do notice an oily residue on my transom every spring when I burn out that first tank of gas.... I have been tempted to try other products, but other than the residue, it is working and as my dear departed grandma used to say ... 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it!' Anyway, this is giving me a way to see how the other products work and I appreciate it!!!

  • @onewhitestone
    @onewhitestone 4 роки тому

Traly, I noticed the gas in the unvented jars did not evaporate. Gasoline vapors burn but gas itself doesn't. So the vapors vent out of the vented jar concentrating the gas in the jar with varnish and water. This is what sticks inside your carb when the gas sits long enough. The fuel additive is designed to slow down the rate of evaporation (oxidation). I was thinking if you had five gallons of gas in an air tight container, would it oxidize? Keeping the gas cool slows down the rate of oxidation, that is why your gas loss in the vented jars is about half. Once it gets really hot, those jars will be empty by Sep. There's yur breakfast Sonny Jim.

Jerkenstein made himself useful. I noted where you said most people use 87. They must use additives. I use premium gas, and don't use an additive. In my area, it has up to 10% ethanol. I haven't had any problems though in 10 years in my chainsaw or vintage Briggs motor. Ruined the chainsaw carb, and the tractor started to run like crap before I switched.

Don Moore Maybe it depends on where you live, I live in NC so my equipment only gets 3-4 months off. I don’t know if that has anything to do with it or not. I’ve never used anything but 87 and have never used an additive. I keep saying I’m going to start using high octane but I always fill up my truck at the same time I get gas for the lawnmower and I’m in too big a hurry to change the pump. I’ve never in my life had fuel or carb problem and my current chainsaw, riding mower, push mower and weedeater are all over 15 years old.

T, I love your channel and that you are doing this experiment, but I highly doubt one year is enough to really see failure. I take great care of my rider, but completely ignore my push mowers because they always get stolen due to frequent shed break-ins. Point is I never change oil, add fuel additive or otherwise maintain my mid grade push mowers (NY). All I do is add standard untreated gas and if it lasts 2 years sharpen the blade. I've never had one not start after 1-3 pulls. Even after winters and complete negligence. It will be interesting to see if any do not start, but I highly doubt it.

when fueling 93 at the pump, into your gas can,its best, to dispense at least 3 gallons, into your vehicles gas tank first.Unless the guy at the pump before you used 93, there is residual 87 or 89, in the manifold of those blender pumps, all the way back to the check valve.

Hey Ronnie! Put a pickle in each of the unvented jars. Come New years day, taste them to see which is most crisp and flavorful.

To me 3 and 10 sound and started the best. You should have added ethanol free gas in one.

as a snowmobile mechanic i can say K100 is the best if you put some water in a cup of gas and add k100 the entire contents will burn. Like they say "we make water burn"

It would be cool if at the 12 month mark you showed the engine video side by side. 1st month run then at 12 month

I have left a half full ethanol blend of gas in a 5 gallon can for a few years and I can shake it up a bit and for the most part is still useable....not great but still useable. If i left that same gas in the bottom of an aluminum carb on a small piece of equipment it would be an evaporated mess with a bunch of gunk. My question is, does the sheer volume of gas with 3 gallons or so and the fact that your moving the fuel through the carb once a month make a difference?? I would love to see the same experiment without touching any of these for 12 months.

Hey Taryle, do you think starting them up every month helps the booger from building up in the carbs? and I heard some guys will fill the remaining space in there gas tanks with argon gas, the argon gas is heavier and will push out the oxygen out of the tank so that it suppose to keep the gas fresher, I don't know if that is true but I think that would be a good test. If that was a dumb question I'm sorry.

I've been running the Ethanol Shield 6:38 in my lawnboy-consumer mower for 2 seasons. it lives outdoors in a tarp shed all through winter & bakes in summer and always starts 1st time (I don't drain the fuel at the end of the season either) Just saying. I chose this product since it's the cheapest in my area. This is a cool test to see, for once I may have picked the right product.
I'd also like to see the carb tear down that was suggested by Mr Patterson below. Keep up the informative videos Taryl
