As one who comes from a metal manufacturing background, getting stainless steel to be ground down to such a small size while trying to keep it from warping from heat or releasing its inner spring tension is quite difficult. Doing it in the 30’s blows my mind.

AP had a Grande Complication in their line years ago. I believe that it is still shown in their catalog, by special order. Even back then, the wait was something akin to three years after placing the order. There was a pocket version and also a wristwatch version. VC may well have made those for modification by AP.
They can not. VC is owned by Richemont Group the only reason Watchfinder has access to these pieces is that they got sold to Richemont Group as well. Neither PP or AP would grant them access to pieces of the same caliber.
I was lucky enough to inherit a huge collection of pocket watches from my grandfather, and while nothing on this scale was there, there was a vintage Vacheron Constantin as well as a Abraham Vacheron Girod. Just having those couple simple pieces of watchmaking history is special to me.
Absolutely superb - the filmography, the history and the content. This channel is so very far above anything else on YT. The passion for everything horologic is so obvious and so beautifully relayed. The detail allowed in your macro shots and the commentary are as fine as the watches themselves. Congratulations - your efforts are as unique as the timepieces themselves and for others to aspire to. I look forward to every one of your posts. Oh yeah......beautiful pieces of the horological art too!
I have owned a small uncomplicated Patek Philippe and a small two hand, no second hand Audemars Piguet. I have never owned a Vacheron Constantin watch. I have seen a nice Vacheron Constantin before in a Jewelry Shop where I live. This place has all of the fine watches and has armed guards in the shop at all times. The top three are all beautiful watches. Great video by the way. I have subscribed and look forward to each new video you publish. Thank you.
Good Lord! the macro photography of the VC split second mechanism made me feel I was watching a real world version of the opening sequence from Game of Thrones! :) Mesmerising.
Absolutely incredible how much can go into the design of pocket watches. I was really hoping to see the 57260 in this video, but these definitely didn't disappoint!
As always, an exceptional video. Three jaw dropping watches, dare I ask the obvious question, what are they worth? It never ceases to amaze me the level of engineering and design skill that goes into a mechanical watch. The fact that these time pieces were made before CNC/CAD and modern manufacturing systems. VC deserves its place in the top three.
I am so glad you had the chance to get your hands on these mavellous pieces. It not only makes an excellent video, but is just as important from a historical perspective. The way you film...we might never get to see these watches in such incredible detail again. I am truly in awe. Great work!
Oh. My. God. The watches, of course, are incredible. Can we take a moment to appreciate the script writer for their contribution and their ability to keep me enthralled?
I've owned over 700 pocket watches, mostly American made but among the swiss ones, Audemars Piguet, Vacheron Constantin, Jaeger Lecoultre, Omega, Ulysse Nardin, IWC, Longines, Eterna, Bucheron, Agassiz....Vacheron took the crown on finish and beauty, followed by AP.
I was waiting for a pocket watch video on this channel, I'd like to learn more about them and it'd be nice if they become more relevant again. My Dad has a Audemars Freres pocket watch that was passed down to him from his grandfather that I think is just beautiful - it's a minute repeater and the case is nearly perfect. It seems a shame that no one gives a damn about pocket watches any more and that wristwatches get all the attention.

I am very aware of VC being one of the Big 3 but it's so odd that I often hear no one talk about VC. Commonly just AP and PP in the conversation. And when I do hear about VC, some even argue they should even be one of the 3 and that Lange should take its place haha. This video does provide some solid perspective.
There's a lot of questions raised about whether VC deserves its place in the top three, innovations like the Traditionelle Twin Beat notwithstanding. Since sports watches are a thing now people only compare sports watches. I am happy VC is going strong.

A wonderful episode. I wasn't aware of the reasons why the firm is held in such regard. The skill required to design 1000 parts so tiny, is quite incredible, and I wish the designers got some credit along with the watches. I know the firm takes the credit, but surely there must have been geniuses at the firm that deserve to be recognized. Oftentimes a single mind is behind something inspired.
