I can't believe no one mentions the fucking amazing synthwork on this song. Alice is good and all but is lucky she has something really good to sing to. the fucking synth stuff kicks ass - try to play it yourself - it's not easy! Also love that scream sample!
Yeah I agree that the musical accompaniment really serves as a essential basis to their music in general, it's what gives them their sound. But I wouldn't underestimate her talents as a vocalist but also, especially, as a lyricist. Her writing sets the tone to the kind of imagery and atmosphere that makes their music.
A lot of their songs use distorted effects, but I agree that it's all really, really amazing. Whatever genre Crystal Castles could be classified (electropop, darkwave, witch house), they sure as hell own it. But although I'd still love CC if it were just Ethan and his instrumentals, it'd feel incomplete without Alice, whether she's using her softer side or screaming her fucking head off. But like you said, it's vice versa too. They compliment each other so well, they're musical soul mates.
