Thank you very much for this! Just yesterday I saw a video of an interview with Roberto Alagna and Clémentine Margaine about this production of Carmen, where they were speaking about how the interpretation changes little by little from performance to performance, and how each performance is different from the others. This video shows an excellent example of just that, and it's wonderful to see these two interpretations side by side. Superb indeed!
Exactly what Julia H. just said. This is a wonderful illustration of exactly the sort of thing they were talking about in that interview.
Very informative; both versions are marvelous and though different, each is valid. Roberto Alagna is a master of this role and that is certainly shown here.

BROVO ROBERTO ALAGNA
Une "petite préférence" je crois pour la 1ère interprétation Don José se fait plus tendre à la fin avec un final empreint de douceur, et une dernière "pose "au côté de Carmen toute en tendresse alors que la 2 éme est plus chantée jusqu'à la fin de " passion" envers Carmen et peut être plus éprouvante à chanter car à la dernière image , la tête ne repose pas tout doucement , mais tombe d'un " coup " sur son bras ! Ceci n'est que mon avis ! Les 2 sont très belles ! Bravo l'Artiste !
