Reactivated rail spur - Perma Treat - Durham, CT - 6/2023

- Last year a long unused section of track was cleared for reuse because of increase rail traffic. The space is needed for car storage for cars awaiting to be loaded or in this case waiting to be sent back out to Providence, RI. This video shows some empty cars sitting on the reactivated portion of track after it was put back to use last year.
Some may think the centerbeams look familiar so take a look at the other end of the operation where they are loaded before being sent to Perma Treat:

So awesome to see this being used again! We need more rails, not less
Thanks for watching
@@TheOGTingusPingus "Basically abandoned" but there's trains on it. It was cleared for a customer who uses it for storage for the increased traffic. Once the next load comes in these cars will move again. Its not even close to abandoned.
Basically it was politicians who drove industries overseas with high taxes and idiotic regulations !😡
@@TheOGTingusPingusgood luck with that eliminating 80 percent of trucking are you even sane 😂
@@TheOGTingusPingusso I guess your supermarket is going to lay rails down so a train can deliver to it 😂
Rail reactivation seems to be picking up all over the place. Good to see this.
Thanks for watching
Not where I live
Could some of it be due to the higher cost of diesel fuel, for the trucking industry?
Wish I'd see more of it around here in CT where I live. Most of what SCR shows is in MA and RI. Was looking at the PW line from Norwich to the MA line on Google Maps the other night... So many of the sidings that used to exist 25-30yrs ago when I'd railfan the line are now gone.
Great to see .... Superb work again sir
Thanks for watching
The paved over track and landscaping that clearly was brought in/done and covers up the track, is interesting... Surprising how many sidings/spur tracks are around if you look close enough.
Just north of Granby station on the old NH/Farmington Canal line, there's still a siding buried under the rail trail parking lot. You can see a non-buried section of it just north of the parking lot, then follow it south until it is fully covered.

I was surprised that there is an old railroad track going through Baldwin Pond Park in Meriden, CT. I thought it was just some old spur track, but have since found that it was part of a line that went all the way from Cromwell to Waterbury. Unfortunately the line struggled and was abandoned in pieces throughout the 1900s. There is a picture of what is called a "destroyed bridge" on Wikipedia. I know where the location is but it is much more overgrown now. Part of the line also goes along Brookside Park in Meriden. The Meriden, CT railroad station has some information about the line.
Thank you for including the name of the cross street. That really helps in finding the location on the map!

Just noticed on Google earth that this customer also just had new switch off the main and sidings installed on the far side of this plant. So this is just part of the recent work done

We have a line in western wis like this. It's the old chi northwestern line. It was last used in 86. Could be updated if up would purchase it.
Thanks for watching
Good to see the line back in use. Where does the line go to ?
It’s a dead end customer stub
Interesting that the reporting marks are all covered. almost like the cars are up for sale or recently bought maybe, old MEC cars.
Those are probably the old patches you’re seeing
@@SouthCoastRailVideos Well I guess as long as the AEI tag still works they might get by for a bit before the yard guys stop them for re-patching/stenciling.
When was it last used?
Previous to the restoration it was the 1980’s
@@SouthCoastRailVideos wow
does perma treat actually use these cars. I live near by and never see these cars move
A video linked in the description shows them on the move
Still looks 50 years abandoned with rusting freight cars.
Thanks for watching
The reason trucks dominate today is because rail freight service sucked they were always late with the cars !😝
