I HATED that Lion took Connie's side, I like Connie, but Lion cmon, he used to be rose, the one that revived you, and he found you, gave you a home and everything and Lion pretty much just abandoned him because of Connie's entitlement

Precisely. Like I understand Connie’s point of fighting with Steven and the giving himself up thing, but he QUITE LITERALLY, returned ALIVE, UNHARMED, from a place where we could have DIED, or been TORTURED, with a probable ATTACK on Earth afterwards, and yet, the ONLY thing she thought about at that moment was “ why didn’t you let me fight with u :( “ not even 10 seconds after his CONFIRMED NON-DEATH, did she think “ thank goodness your alive “ I know she did, but still, realistically a NORMAL human would have taken multiple days to have the argument and resentment that she did, all a NORMAL human would think about, would be the fact that YOU. ARE. ALIVE. even though, still, I understand (kind of) Connie’s point with her argument, that should have came WAY after the fact that Steven returned, like ACTUAL MONTHS (days at the LEAST) this is one of my main reasons why I have a love-hate relationship with Connie, she can be so unnecessary to the point of hatred, but then a episode later she’s saving the world and being adorable with Steven, LIKE WHAT ,:/ and for lion, he didn’t even need to be there, honestly, if he wasn’t I would have been a little less upset with the end of the episode, taking Connie’s side was just unneeded and stupid ‘:l but I agree with your point especially this one completely :)

Dude, Ronaldo may have been an outcast but I don't think he was bullied by the "cool kids"... Literally a huge point of their characters is that they're just chill people who will vibe with anybody as long as they're good people too. The most that would've happened in that case is they wouldn't have vibed with him for very obvious reasons. Ronaldo isn't a bad person, but he's obsessive and shows little empathy to those around him, more focused on his own self interest. It's kinda sad that we don't get a character arc for him. It would've been nice if he and Lars could've come back and grown respect for each other. Cuz yea, Lars was a terrible friend, but Ronaldo wasn't that much better. Also, Lars didn't get rewarded for being a bad friend... He was rewarded for standing up for his friends for the first time ever and putting his life on the line for them

Yeah…thanks for kinda pointing out what I felt was off about the video. Sometimes ppl grow apart. Lars was close but the incident that happened was just a thing that severed the relationship since both clearly had different desires for what they wanted in life. Lars wanted to be accepted by others and Ronaldo wanted to research the paranormal. I don’t hate either party for their actions as kids, and I think the writers felt that it was a conflict that didn’t really need an apology since both acted badly.
And then the comment about being “rewarded”? Why is Lars character tied solely to Ronaldo? Lars grew up, did some bad things, but then learned a lesson and was rewarded. His lesson happened as a result of a traumatic situation that he had to overcome. Ronaldo is unrelated to it!
SU wanted a character like Ronaldo to prove that even if he’s an outcast, that doesn’t mean he’s a good guy. Lars was also an outcast but he came around to Steven’s humanity. But Ronaldo only saw Steven’s weirdness as worth his time. He served a purpose in the narrative, and he was a jerk. It’s fine to redeem one and not the other.

Way I saw it, Kevin's episode with the race was him believing there was some trick to Stevonnie (maybe she had her two younger siblings pull a trick on him or something like that). I personally hated how future ended things, well not all of it, but the part with Pink Diamond and rose. It felt like Steven had FINALLY understood his mom and how she turned out how she was, why she became who she was and all of her flaws.. Then future got like a huge HATE BONER FOR HER. Which I mostly blame the movie for starting. She is not NEARLY the worst and most evil character in the series but is treated like it, which is even worse because she’s the only character who’s “dead” too so they can’t even have her defend herself (or moreso have the writers do it)
The song “familiar” is so beautiful showing Steven realizing that his mom was just like him growing up but while he got support and love, she was put down and discouraged. It felt like a beautiful ending to the whole “Steven wanting to live up to his mom’s legacy” arc that was always there. And then they just ruin it with a single character and rub salt in the wound during future. 💎💔

You have to remember, Rose in the end decided to leave Steven and the Gems to deal with her problems. She ran away from everything again in the end and everyone suffered and had to clean up her mess.
Even if you argue she couldn't have known things, why would the gems never return to Earth?
Even Bismuth was left to rot, just like a certain other gem, just like everyone close to Rose. This is not a good character, this is someone entirely selfish and blind to the world, the very reason she never realized or could handle Pearl. A victim who in the end creates more victims is not a good person. And because she died that way she remains that way. There is no growth to be had, she died a villain unlike villains who lived to become good people.

Why would the gems never return to earth? Did you watched the show? The diamonds stopped caring about earth firstly because it's where pink diamond died (to her knowledge), and the other three diamonds "exterminated" (corrupted) all gems on earth, so they don't have a point to come back (but then the cluster thing happens, peridot's excuse was to go, check in, and leave)

I think Steven Universe does a really good job at portraying social anxiety through Lars' character arc. He makes and acts on generalizations as a defense mechanism. He never talks to the "cool kids" because he thinks they won't like him, despite how chill and genuine they actually are. Also, his tendency to put others on a pedestal suggests an issue with self worth, as whenever he considers interacting with the "cool kids" he holds himself to an impossibly high standard. His mindset is also really self-centered, as when he tore up Ronaldo's picture he was putting himself first at the expense of others.
Then on homeworld things change. As the gem scanners are approaching, he realizes that he is the only person who can stop them. The situation is so dire that his will overpowers his anxiety and instead of allowing his defense mechanisms to hurt others, he takes it upon himself to be their defense mechanism. I think he also realizes that he has a lot more agency than he had thought, as he is invisible to gem technology. Where before he may have thought that what little he could do would only make it worse, he has been shown that he can make things better through his actions, and suddenly action becomes preferable to inaction.
The show also makes sure to clarify that he is not 'cured,' as he immediately falls back into his old patterns when he is told about Sadie and the "cool kids." His focus shifts from escaping Emerald and saving the off colors to how unfair it is that Sadie became friends with the "cool kids" and he didn't. He assumes that Sadie is living her life to get back in him for everything he's done. Steven and Connie then explain that even though life on earth goes on he is still missed, and they remind him of his agency and how far he's come since homeworld. After that, he refocuses and gets back to the matter at hand. Anxiety is not some demon sitting in the back of your mind to be immediately exterminated, it's a normal human emotion that has to be managed in a healthy way just like the rest of them.

Every Gem that perished or was damaged by the war owes it to Pink being a Coward and starting a proxy war. Lapis destroying an old Barn has absolutely nothing on what Pink's done to millions of Gems. And at least Lapis is alive to change her ways and apologize. And she has! I think Connie’s whole issue with Steven surrendering himself was how he handled it after everything they’ve been through up to that point.
Yes, his meltdown was valid & Connie was understanding in the season 2 premiere, but at that point she was still basically a bystander who was part of Steven’s support group. As the show went on, they trained and bonded together. Even if they couldn’t beat every opponent, they saw each other more as equals and would face on whatever Homeworld threw at them together. However, when Topaz & Aquamarine showed up, Steven gave himself up thinking it was best for everyone and when he came back, he tried brushing it off and acted like it was no issue at all.
I know that Steven surrendering himself was probably the only way to stop Aquamarine and Topaz at the time, but the way Steven handled it made Connie feel like he didn’t see them as equals despite everything they’ve been through, and then completely ignored it like her feelings don’t even matter. The whole election subplot with Mayor Dewey was even supposed to make Steven realize how Connie felt

    • @zkme2734
      @zkme2734 3 місяці тому +28

I think this is a problem that the show is very Steven-focus, you almost never get episodes or B plots with side characters, so you just don't know how characters act or think without Steven. So for a lot of people (including me) seeing this scene at first felt like trouble from nowhere, like an excuse to give human trouble to Steven just because.

    • @hammiarts
      @hammiarts 2 місяці тому +10

this is exactly what I was thinking! Connie was basically forced to be a bystander or stay out of the missions into space for the first two trips, but the last abduction was supposed to be what they were training for together. Steven unintentionally patronized her, then made her worry sick thinking he was being taken as a believed murderous war criminal straight to the people who loved Rose's "victim" most with seemingly no allies (since no one really realized that Lars was still on the ship). She had every reason to believe Steven just willingly gave himself up to be killed with no practical way out of it, when she feels they could've fought Topaz and Aquamarine off together. To be clear, it's irrational for Connie to think they had a real chance of winning against these foes together at this point in time, but she's a 13 year old kid still riding high after the Jasper defeat and in over her head. She can't really fully understand the situation, and neither can Steven, for that matter. As someone who's lived in the head of a 13 year old girl before, I can understand why she felt the way she did, and I don't think she behaved unreasonably initially after Steven returned. I think it was a bad decision to ghost Steven for, like, a week after such a traumatic event, but again, 13 year old girl. Plus she even says she wanted to reach back out sooner, she just didn't know how to or was too scared and confused to. I think its a stretch to call Steven's time being ghosted "further trauma" since he knows Connie is safe and willingly ignoring him.
Its a high expectation for a kid to be the therapist to a half alien hybrid kid caught in the middle of a several thousand year old war while showing no concern for herself and her own emotions. I think this mini arc was an important lesson for kids on communication, boundaries, and friendship. They both owed each other an apology.

EXACTLY THANK YOU! There's also the fact that everyone who talks about this seem to just not realize that this was likely an extremely traumatizing event for Connie too! Like. the first time it happened, she wasn't directly affected by this AT ALL. She didn't even know it was happening until it was already over or close to it, and she wasn't there, and she didn't directly witness anything. But this time, she was THERE. She was helping. And then she had to helplessly stand by and WATCH her best friend, who she had been desperately wanting to help and protect for the whole series to the point that she was willing to disregard her own life for it (see: Do it For Her) And this time she actually COULD have done something to help, but Steven didn't give her that option, and instead just threw everything away to get taken away and presumably executed. Like. That's a lot for a 12 year old to have to witness and deal with, and then afterward Steven just completely brushes it all of like it was nothing. Like, yeah, I don't think completely isolating herself from him was the best course of action, but she's 12 and having to learn how to process this kind of trauma for the first time in her like (presumably) and I honestly don't blame her at all for being upset about it either. Honestly I think it's a complex situation and I don't think either is necessarily in the right

I think you're missing a lot of messages of self love and mental health that SU tries to teach.
Regarding Connie: emotions aren't supposed to "make sense". You can always try to get to the bottom of why you're feeling something but you don't NEED to do that to validate your emotions. Connie is a person, not a machine or yeswoman for Steven, her disagreeing with how Steven chose to handle the situation is a completely normal thing to happen. No matter how level headed someone may seem or how much they are kind, sometimes they WILL feel something "irrationally" and they will disagree with other people in their life. The best person in the world can also be selfish, prideful or "irrational", it's part of being human, we are flawed creatures with a sense of self (and it's healthy to have one). The issue is society at large has a problem with emotions that are considered negative (sadness, anger, jealousy, pride etc) and we're only allowed to feel those negative emotions only if they make "complete logical sense", which is bullcrap because emotions aren't logic. Therefore a ton of people pretend to not feel things either to not upset other people or because they fear conflict (or both), which only leads to people-pleasing behavior which leads to long term resentment. Homeworld is an exaggerated representation of our society, and Rose fled Homeworld (also) because of such harmful impositions on human (gem) behavior and feelings. Steven Universe (the series) is literally showing how to undo these harmful teachings that cause emotional and psychological suffering, so it's really on brand for them to show characters having "irrational" emotions and being allowed to feel and process them in their own time without having to people-please others. You don't have to agree with someone's emotion for them to be allowed to feel it and take the time they need to process it. Still on this topic, I think you also misunderstand what apologies are meant to be in healthy relationships: it's not about admitting to fault, it's about acknowledging the feelings of the person you want to have a relationship with (not only romantic) and taking >accountability< (not fault) for your part even if you didn't mention to cause harm.
Regarding the Cluster and Peridot: again, Homeworld is a representation of our society, they overwork their people and deem doing things that aren't seen as productive to the expansion of the empire as a "waste of time" - which is very very very close to our society which does the same to any activity that's not about earning money or doing chores. We >NEED< rest. Every animal needs it and we also are animals. Rest is extremely beneficial to our physical and mental health. It wouldn't matter working non-stop on the drill to stop the cluster of the work were to be worse in any way due to tiredness or mental stress. Quality over quantity. Steven Universe (show) is about unlearning harmful practices that are considered socially acceptable (or even positive) such as overworking yourself. Feeling good is super important to our personal health and, therefore, is super important to the health of any project we work on.
Other than that, I agree with the other things you pointed out!

Idk, I think it was actually pretty mature of Connie to take time away to deal with her feelings, even if made for an annoying arc.
When Steven first came home after his ordeal on Homeworld, Connie was more accusatory in the heat of the moment "How could you just give yourself up like that?" "You just gave up!" I think she probably felt conflicted between wanting to be a supportive friend but also addressing her own feelings, so rather than stick around and say something hurtful to somebody she loves, she took a break.
When they finally reunited, I think she had a better handle on her feelings and had calmed down. I don't see how you can hear "I'm angry. I miss you. I feel like I'm out of my mind!" And call it "exploding".
Yeah it would have been nice for her to text "I don't hate you, but I need time away," but like, they're both teenagers who haven't had therapy lol.
Connie's early season "You're the one who's been through everything. The least I could do is listen," is kind, sure, but a person can't push their own feelings aside all the time or they'll start to resent the people they love. A person's problems being arguably bigger than one's own doesn't mean one's own problems aren't problems at all.

Thank you!!!! I feel like the only one who thinks this. At least in short term arguments, it's healthy just to walk away and "cool off" and "process" before you escalate the argument in the heat of the moment, granted Connie should have checked in during that drawn out arc- but it fits her age group behaviour to me. I don't know if anyone remembers about having "big feelings" at Connie's age, if this was her first experience handling such a HUGE blow out with her best friend with such BIG feelings, it makes sense to me that she might feel the need to self-isolate and figure out on her own for the first time.

With Bluebird, Rubies don't seem to be all that.. smart. Clouded by hatred and effectively having everything Aquamarine had ripped away from her, Eyeball's thinking likely overtook most of the critical thinking there. Grief and hatred do make people make dumb decisions and thoughts.

While Connie did have the right to be upset, she was in NO place to straight up ditch Steven after he risked his life just to save them. It really annoyed me how she was only thinking about herself in that moment of reunion and not even bothering to properly communicate with him instead of just actually being glad Steven even had the opportunity to come back in the first place. Yeah, they're both children and yeah Steven made mistakes too, but I really hate how that scene was portrayed. Both of them were in the wrong, not just Steven. I feel like it should've been addressed that Connie's response to that ordeal was not the best way to handle things. Leaving with Lion was honestly one of the worst things she could have done in that moment. Like come on, he just came back after he risked his life for all of them. And Connie couldn't even wait to talk about it at a better timing. That's gotta be really hurtful in an actual situation. She didn't even say she was happy to see Steven until he himself had to ask that. Really pained me to watch that scene at the beach.

She felt bad because Steven basically told her that after all they went through, he didn't believe they and by extension she were capable enough. She needed time to think about her feelings so she could express it. In the end she tells him I care a lot about you, which is why I trained so hard to protect you. I was sad and angry when, after all our training, you didn't believe in me and in us. I think it totally makes sense why she was upset and Steven recognized that. That is why they are such an amazing duo. On the other hand, I thought the way Future treated Rose was kind of like Ronaldo. this could’ve been such an interesting conflict because you could justify both steven and connie’s side. Steven has tge tendency to be the “saviour” and help everybody else even if it may cause more harm (which they later handle in SU future). Connie was rightfully upset that steven just abandoned what they’ve been training for, which is to fight together. too bad they handled it so poorly and made connie look bad.

This is overall a solid video but I do disagree with you on every point. Mainly the Connie stuff. Connie's actions make perfect sense she's not mad that Steven went to space or that he didn't fuse she's mad that Steven fully gave up and accepted his fate abandoning earth and her right after promising that they would be in this together. From her perspective Steven handed himself over to die rather then try and fight. I also disagree with the argument that lars and sadie didn't deserve their character arks because sadie didn't do anything bad so her ark was already justified and lars still went through major character development sure we could have seen him apologies to ronaldo but when would that have happened lars doesn't return until the last 5 minutes of the final episode and there was no space for it in future.

Fascinating to read a fresh perspective, I never saw it that way for Connie but that does make sense. The key difference was that they fought Aquamarine and Topaz after they committed to earth other, really cool stuff. As for the Lars content, I understand adding it into future would've been a bit jarring but that's why they should've added an apology into the original show. This isn't the first time the series refused to make people who should apologize actually do it, Lapis and Peridot also comes to mind and there was plenty of time for an apology between them. the 3rd SU video game (Unleash The Light) has an equippable item (referred to as "Charms") called "Aquamarine Wand", and part of the item description says "(...) Precisely the type of weapon that's no longer permitted in Era 3!".
so what I think might've happened is that Steven must have had a discussion with the Diamonds about the different types of non-summoned weapons (like the Destabilizer) that the Diamonds had given to the kinds of gems that aren't typically capable of summoning weapons.
I don't think this is an entirely unreasonable assumption to make, seeing as the movie casually implies that Steven had literally travelled from planet to planet, dismantling the Diamond's empire.

I liked the early seasons, when it was just fun childish adventures, but the later seasons remind me too much of the people around me that I don't like hanging out with because they only acknowledge their own pain, and only ever superficially recognize the pain of others. "Oh, Im sorry, but you still blah blah blah" is not recognizing anything about the other person, its brushing aside what they feel to put yourself first. Adressing the poor behavior of people around you is important, but there is a time and place, and I feel like this show doesnt transmit that very well.

I…liked Steven Universe. There were parts that confused me, but Connie’s reaction to Steven returning after basically saving her life and the lives of at least four other humans, along with Alexandrite, absolutely INFURIATED me. She couldn’t seem to realize that if not for him, she’d never see her family and friends again - none of the stolen humans would, and that would have major consequences later on. Yeah, Lars died mid-character development, but he got revived. Not sure why that was necessary, but he’s… an okay character for the tropes he was working with. Connie essentially demeaned what was effectively a powerful moment of self-sacrifice that should have been respected and understood because Steven did something that no kid his age should ever have to do, made him feel like garbage for saving five or six lives, and then made him apologize when SHE ‘was ready to talk’.

on Lars' and Ronaldo's relationship: sometimes when 2 friends have a falling out where both friends are, to an extent, at fault, there might be too much hurt for either friend to be willing to make amends. friend 1 (Lars) will withhold closure from friend 2 (Ron) for so long, that friend 2 (maybe both friend 1 & 2, in some cases), eventually learns to live with the discomfort of having never resolved their conflict. they might even come to resent one another for their refusal to step forward and admit that they were wrong.
I don't think never apologizing or trying to repair his friendship with Ronaldo speaks poorly to Lars' character, or that he's a terrible person because of this-quite the opposite, in fact. I actually think their relationship is a very realistic depiction of how some friendships (unfortunately) end. earlier in the series, Lars seemed to have a habit of not acknowledging his emotions, in an effort to portray himself as an idealized version of himself that Lars had created in his mind.
but there's a difference between indifference and ignorance. if you consider all of Lars' relationships, you can draw a parallel between all of them (except for with his parents, I guess). there's a reoccurring theme of genuine fondness, overshadowed by embarrassment. but he's not embarrassed by the other person specifically; he's embarrassed because of what his relationship with said person says about himself. the implications and subtext surrounding the relationship as a whole, not because he thinks lowly of the person he's friends/in a relationship with.
I could definitely go on, but I feel like this comment gets my point across well enough as it is lol

Regarding the Lars vs Ronaldo thing, that's actually realistic. When it comes to losing friends to bullying groups as a kid, a friend or part of the group starts hanging out with the bad crew, for any reason, mostly because they bring something "cool" to the table that you don't get with the others, like a sense of power, a sense of confidence, a lot of "fun with just a bit of edge", an open door for starting a s*xual life, just for the heck of it, etc... staying with the "square" friends - and standing up to them - is not as interesting as having a sense of power over other kids for being in a gang, and f*ck Stacy at a kids *rgy party with grass on Friday, or messing with the "wokes" and "chanting words of order against their lunacy", if you get into a neo_liberal crew, for example.
And when those friends start getting comfortable with the new crew, start doing what they do without a second thought. Very often it involves bullying the old friends and saying it's not that big a deal, and punishing the nerds if they aren't good sports. The "immigrant friends" become blind to the severity of what they are doing, truly believing it's no big of a deal, and the punishments are deserved. And adults believe in that too, so good luck asking for help and becoming "the bad sport".
Next thing you know "the bully friend" went through an entire redemption arc, completely unrelated to what they did to you, everyone say they are a good person now, and YOU better move on. It literally happens that way: people forget COMPLETELY what happened before, even the ones that SAW IT HAPPEN IN PERSON, then after "the redemption arc", even if the bully friend keep doing the same stuff to you, even decades later, nobody cares. Revealing there still are some loose knots to tie before we say everything is OK and the bully friend aren't as good as advertised makes other people feel bad, then they conclude YOU are the problem for the bad feeling, not the "very good bully friend", and YOU are the one that gotta learn to move on.
Most instances of bullying just go unsolved forever, because literally nobody cares and what the bullies do serve as confirmation bias, proof or are said to be solved by certain right wing, mainstream popular wisdoms ('boys will be boys', 'just get thick skin', 'if you don't stand up for yourself you like it!', 'be good sport or else', etc), which makes people act in many ways except help, even if they can. (Who wanna be the person that do not do common sense, right?)
Anyways, Ronaldo got it easy actually, some people stand up for him, and he does not need to pretend to have moved on. Ronaldo still have to endure for the sake of other friends that do not get the beef yet, but he can literally say "that feels bad, hurts and I am uncomfortable", and other people will not drag him through mud for it. That's BIG.

Tbh.. I’m fine with lars not reconciling, because that doesn’t always happen, sometimes you move on and make new friends without reconciling with everyone you ever wronged, and to me that just feels a ten bit more realistic.
I wouldn’t call Lars dying , getting healed, and joining the off-colors a “redemption” it’s more like a “rebirth”, the Lars we knew quite literally died to become who he is today.

When i first watched the series I thought the same as you. However, now I think Connie's perspective makes a lot of sense. She's Steven's best friend, she has trained to be able to keep up with him and his adventures, but when push comes to shove, he sacrifices himself instead of working together with his family. Regardless of what happens after, how would you feel if the person closest to you didn't accept your help in a matter of life and dead? It's horrible. Yes, Steven had a hard time in Homeworld but everyone else just had to continue living without being able to help, unaware if he was alive or dead, unaware if there was sth that could be done or to just grieve. It's not heroic, it's self destructive and Future makes it very clear. Besides, at the beginning of the series she COULDN'T DO nothing more than just listen, but now she's in a position to help, to her it's also that Steven doesn't trust her enough to let her help and then expects her to clap at his return. Her "ego" is just realistic character development.

I don’t think I care how old Stevonnie is. It doesn’t change the fact that’s two kids (at the time that stuff was going on) and Kevin’s attraction to them even after knowing they’re kids is creepy.
Also I hated that whole arc with Connie being pissed at Steven. I honestly don’t think she had a lot of reason to be mad at him, but oh no you hurt my feelings so I get to be pissed for multiple episodes. realistically what could she even have done if she went with him. Steven made a split second judgement call to protect everyone or possibly have everyone abducted. What even is more annoying is lion took her side and basically stayed with her the whole time, that ain’t even her lion.

Ronaldo getting robbed out of being a three dimensional character will always be one of my biggest gripes with this series. Every time they give him some sort of plot significance, it always feels like theyre building up to something. The fact that hes always right for the wrong reasons, the fact that he highly respects Steven, the fact that of all the humans we've seen, hes the only one who was genuinely interested in learning aout gem culture beyond "They're magic lesbians". All of that potential, all those openings, just to relegate him to being a background weeaboo.

  • @1UpEXP
    @1UpEXP 2 місяці тому

Tbf imo, it is frustrating to see a character self-sacrifice especially when they don't seemingly have to or when it's displays a clear lack of faith in the hero's ability to help them with their problem. Like for example, in Bleach how many of you thought that Orihime had brain sectors missing (well, more of them missing than usual) when she just gave herself up as a hostage for Aizen.
So I think it's an interesting idea to challenge the concept of the self-sacrificer, even if it's done really clumsily.

Yeah, people were shitty to Ronaldo when he was young. But he's an adult, he has the power to be a better person; reason or no, he can decide to process his trauma instead of clinging to his victim-complex.
If he grew up and got his own self-sufficient life where he's good to the people around him, he would have all the ground in the world to call Lars out and make it clear exactly how fucked up it was, having already processed it and overcome it himself.
Thinking back to Finn chewing out Princess Bubblegum. He did move on, he got his own life and found new people to love, ones who value him and love him back. And when PB starts on her bullshit thinking she can boss him around like a little kid, he calls her out. "No, that won't work anymore. I'm done." He doesn't _need_ an apology from her, he doesn't _need_ her to fix him. He already fixed himself and moved on.
And because of this, he can put PB in her place, and she actually has to respect it if she wants to be in his life again. After this PB talks to Finn like an adult and gives him better terms when she asks him for help; less bossing around with secrecy and half-truths and more of an ally giving fair requests with full disclosure of what's at risk and why.
Finn could've spent the rest of his life bitching about how PB did him wrong, and refusing to better himself until she apologizes to him. But Finn did the chad move and was like "I'm done. If you want to be friends with me, be a real friend or GTFO". Respect.
Also I'll give a little love to Amethyst. Ame is _really_ fucked up most of the show, and 100% deserves the many times she's called out on her bullshit. But then she does the right thing, and proceeds to focus on her issues and slowly teach herself to stop projecting her insecurities all the time, and to own her shit. So by the end of the show when she comes out of her shell again, she's able to help Steven with all she's learned, and ends up being a proper ride-or-die sister for Steven. Amethyst quietly doing a redemption arc correctly.
