Roman's breakdown in front of everybody in this episode was one that felt like was always on the cards but it hit so much harder than I could have ever anticipated. 👏👏 There were phenomenal performances all round in this weeks episode! Who takes the crown for you this week? 👑 Comment your thoughts below!
I thought for a moment at the end Roman was not going to make it through the crowds and trouble brewing up. Maybe Kendall prevails after season 1&2 failures - maybe he is the “killer” that Logan said he wasn’t but there is Greg who seems to be moving up and he needs to be considered a dark horse. This is basically King Lear with Armani suits and IPhones - what a brilliant show and well written, acted and directed
Roman’s credibility crumpled in front of everyone and I’m afraid if he won’t bounce back. That, plus what happened with the protesters will end his character’s ego.
One thing I disagree on is how you characterized Ewan mentioning the polio as something low and another way of criticizing Logan. I think that story actually portrayed Logan in a very sympathetic and sad light. Ewan never blamed Logan for bringing home the polio, only said that Logan blamed himself for it even though nobody could know if that was true. He also said (regretfully) that he had never been able to let go of that guilt because their aunt and uncle encouraged it (he didn't explicitly say this but his tone and wording definitely implied it). It sounded to me much more like Ewan didn't think Logan blaming himself for their sister's death was justified, and that it was cruel on their aunt and uncle's part for letting him think it. I felt that it did a lot to humanize Logan and what he had been through at that young age.
Exactly, I thought it was one of the most touching moments in the whole series. There's also a mention of it in season one where ewan says "I don't blame you for what happened to Rose"
I just don’t feel like Kendall will finish at the top. I still don’t think he has what it takes and tries so hard to go through the motions of trying to be that person. I’m not sure who will reign supreme and believer there will be a wicked plot twist.
Kendall spoke to Romulas the way Logan did. Whenever Logan belittled Romulas, Rom would also immediately attack someone under him. That is why he went outside to yell at the rally. He also craved their abuse. Rom is so broken.
Very true, he is not ceo material at all. He is a good executive though. There were so many powerful ppl at the funeral so it really crushed any hope Roman had of being ceo. Kendall wasn't being mean he was being brutally honest.
Logan was NOT a good and moral man across the board, these are facts. Ewans eulogy seemed to give him human aspect while not absolving him from the brute he was.
@Bash no way.... she wants the power in the end just like the rest of them. Does she care more about the state of of the country than the others? For sure. But the end game for her is to be CEO
@@bash547I don’t know about that. Shiv is the most PR-friendly one because she has a background in marketing, but notice she only truly cares about Democracy and the appearance of morality when it doesn’t interfere with her plans. She was fast to make a deal with Mencken once he had power because, ultimately, her self-interest will always come first before her moral principles
@@mikerzisu9508 agreed. Shiv was more moral in the first 2 seasons but as Logan grabbed her and started putting his ambition into her in s3, she’s become more ruthless and even willing to break her moral compass by aligning with Menken if need be. Remember last season when she didn’t even want to be in the picture with him
I think Kendall is absolutely becoming Logan with him going for custody of his kids like Logan did, him saying he hopes he has some Logan in him, him hiring Logan's driver, and him trying to establish a dominating relationship with Menken. I think what will happen with Kendalls siblings is a mirroring of what happened to Logan's siblings, further establishing that Kendall is becoming Logan. With Kendall kicking Roman when he was down saying he fucked it will push Roman to become like Ewan, Logan's brother. Disillusioned and distrustful with the money and power and a disgust for what those things do to people. And Kendall will metaphorically kill Shiv like Logan "killed" his little sister. Kendall will destroy her when it comes to her betrayal now that he knows she is still working with Mattsen despite being found out. Tom and Shiv know they are all they really have and I think even though Shiv sometimes showcases narcissism and sociopathy at times, I think she doesn't actually have it in her to abandon her husband and child. I think she will choose humanity over becoming Logan because she will witness how it changes her brother. I think this because she could have divorced Tom by now and she could have aborted their baby but she hasn't because deep down she doesn't want to be like her parents. I found it interesting that Kendall chose Hugo to be his "dog" over Greg and I think he did this because he has witnessed that Greg will betray family when he so easily gave up Shiv's secret and with Greg so desperately trying to get an intro with Menken was overstepping a boundary with Kendall where you don't try to usurp Kendall's powerful friendships. It's clear that Menken doesn't like Kendall as much as Roman and he seems to like Mattsen since Mattsen had a private convo with him and then called Shiv to tell her he got a yes from Menken. We also saw on the election night episode, that Kendall and Jimenez have a pretty good relationship so I think Menken, Mattsen and Shiv are going to think they have the upper hand but then Jimenez will actually be the winner of the election and Shiv and Mattsen will have hooked their cart to the wrong horse. Jimenez will already be in Kendall's pocket and will shut down the deal which is a true Logan move as Shiv said herself that her dad could easily switch sides. But it will destroy Shiv because she will have gone against her principles and sided with Menken and did it all for nothing. Those are my predictions!
That would be sooo good! But i think he is talking to Hugo like that because didn't Hugo's daughter sell her stocks before the public knew Logan died? That would be considered inside trading correct? So i think thats why he has Hugo in his back pocket.
I think there’s a simpler explanation to the character arcs. Roman thought he could be Logan. He learns it’s not in him. Kendal said he couldn’t be Logan. He’s learned he can.
Kendall enters the funeral scene as himself but exits as Logan. The transformation here felt akin to that of Michael Corelone's at the hospital in The Godfather. The mantle has been passed.
Kieran Culkin needs an Emmy for that performance. This episode highlighted the siblings weaknesses, Roman is emotionally weak, Shiv isn't very smart, Kendall can't control his personal life and Connor is just clueless.
I often wonder why the writers chose to make Conner so clueless🤔He’s the first born son usually they carry more weight in a family dynamic. They never gave us much of his backstory except that his Mom has mental illness
Logan had his mother locked up in an institution and it's hinted that she took her own life. He had to be brought up by a loveless father and stepmother. I think Connor is actually the most resilient Roy sibling. He emotionally checked out of his family years ago.
@@Kjærli_Lyst-hår ℹ thought Connor’s Mother was just institutionalized? Where did it say that she killed her self? Or where did it say that she was institutionalized because she tried to kill her self?
Yes, though Shiv's eulogy was emotional, I also felt she primarily got up there because Kendall did such a good job. Man, powerplaying like that at your own dad's funeral.
That is exactly how Logan shaped them! They tried their entire lives to impress him and earn his love, he failed them as children on so many occasions, cared for no one but himself, and that is the result! absolutely normal! emotional abuse at its finest
I feel like Kendall wasn’t only upset with Roman because of how the eulogy went, but also because of how it didn’t even matter who became president. Kendall didn’t want Mencken but only was okay with it because he was gonna block the Gojo deal, and also to spite Shiv. Now that Mencken isn’t gonna do that, Kendall sees this as Roman fucking up because not only has this strained Kendall’s family life even further, it’s put his position at Waystar even more at risk.
I don't think he was mad at him at all he played the abuse card because thats how to get Roman on his side and how to make him usable as we saw at the end
Can we get a discussion on how Shiv does not sense that Mattson and Mencken are not keen on her? In no words or a phrase has Mattson ever said that Shiv will be his CEO... in fact he has always tried his best to squirm out of the conversation but yet Shiv persists. Also Mencken is aware of her political interests not aligning with his and that she also was opposed to him being selected as the Presidential candidate in Season 3. She keeps looking for a position in a world that is rejecting her.
I agree with you. I am of the opinion that Matsson is using Shiv. I also believe if there is any advancement of Shiv within the organization, it is going to be through Tom (believe it or not). Tom always knew that he had to jump through hoops, even more so than Gregg. I just don't think Logan allowed Tom to remain in such close proximity to him, unless Tom had talents (other than loving Shiv).
And no one brings up Menkin’s remark about “kinder, kuche, kirche” -German for “children, cooking, church” - the equivalent of “barefoot and pregnant” as a way to tell us his attitude toward women, even Shiv, as leaders in the workplace.
Shiv será traicionada por Matsson y el junto a Menken intentará colocar a Greg para apropiarse de Waystar...Greg hará lo que sea necesario para seguir escalando después de todo ha hecho un ascenso meteórico incluso Logan Roy lo reconocería.
Yeah same here bruv that was such a strong emotional scene that we knew was coming but that didnt make seeing it hurt any less. Gonna miss this show when it ends sunday. Def gonna have to rewatch all seasons.
Roman joined the chaos coz he wants to feel pain. That's how Logan showed love, kicking a dog, watch it come back. Kendall was awful to Roman in the end. He always wants it all but he won't get it. Shiv will get burned by Matsson. Caroline gathering all of Logan's women and Ewan's speech were highlights.
Quite the opposite. Kendal is Logan now. The succession is finished and I don't mean the movie. The succession of Logan' s character, company power everything. Ken is Logan 2.0. Roman is Ewan 2.0. Shiv is Logan syster 2.0
It's like Roman says "Discord makes my dick hard". This shows up in his inability to regulate his emotions - thus projecting all his rage eternally onto physical assaults onto Greg, inappropriate sexual behaviour towards Gerri (and all older women), and finally - on to the masses
@@ulpiustnt I don’t see how Roman is Ewan 2.0 at all, where are the parallels? Can you imagine Roman donating his estate, or anything lol, to Green Peace?
That Roman moment at the funeral broke me. I was shaking unstoppably. You see I lost my dad back in 2018, he was the best dad unlike Logan, but I felt his pain. I remember I was the strongest in our family for the first 2 weeks, I was the shoulder everyone cried on, but I completely lost on the day prior to the funeral (panic attack and such) I was so scared I skipped my own dad's funeral. This was a hard episode to watch for me.
Lost mine in 2018 too. Best day ever. The anniversary of his death is coming up. Time to celebrate. I do feel for you though. I hated my dad and he hated me but it seems like yours was a good dad.
@@TheCoolestJose me? Sharing my vesiral reaction to this episode because of parallel to my life is not harming my dad's legacy or my family. My name is not really Danish and you don't know me bud. Chill.
Call me crazy guys but I think Kendall is going to end up on top. This has been Kendall’s story from the second the series started with him in the car. It started with him unable to close the Vaulter deal to him succeeding ATN. It’s full circle.
I agree. There were multiple scenes where Kendall was embodying his father - swift full custody of the kids, merciless berating of Roman, behind back dealings. He’s going to be the winner here. And the other clue is that he is the main guest on the HBO podcast for the final episode.
That’s my prediction too, but he will have to push Roman and his family to the side first before delivering the final blow to his sister. He’s finally ready to be that brut.
The more and more I watch this season, the more and more I believe that Logan treated Kendall like a dog who is abused so it becomes a fierce, gritty, no-holds-barred fighter: Logan did in fact see a killer in his son, but kept him in check in multiple ways, lest he try to take over from him while he was alive. And now that Logan has died.... well, that chain is now broken and we are seeing the savage that Kendall in fact is....
Shiv fans were eating well tonight. Ten minutes into the episode I told my friend, the kids did it, they literally broke the country 🤣. But you could tell Matsson and Mencken did not think they were serious people.
Think this can go one two ways: 1. Kendall ends up taking control - but this causes a huge rift between the siblings and their whole lives will still be a constant struggle to push one or the other out of that position. Kendall will also continue on this trajectory of being a horrible father and a brute - like his pops. 2. Gojo deal ends up going through - but Matsson screws Shiv over. The siblings then finally unite again to try to somehow find some loop hole to get their company back again or screw over Matsson in general, but all characters remain on their same trajectory of not really improving themselves and constantly obsessing over who should be the leader.
Seeing the four of them casually chat about the Mausoleum was incredible. They talk about it like real estate to glibly acknowledge that they're headed there in the end, that their father is dead and they're not far behind so they should start planning ahead. For a moment it was like they abandoned their immediate concerns and openly discussed that everything ends in death. It works so well for Ken because when he switches into attack mode and rallies Hugo behind him. The shot where he sees the chairs being folded up it's like he's thinking "I still have time left" and quickly dismisses the inevitability of death, much like how his father did. In ep 2, Logan discusses with Colin how he believes there's no after life and his final words are "A bit more fucking aggressive", showing that he has no idea what's coming. Both Logan and Ken accept death but dismiss it thinking they have all the time in the world to do what they want. Incredible direction to go from that conversation to Ken pushing it out of his mind.
This episode made me realize Ewan was the only one who went to therapy, clearly, as he's the only one with a rational perspective on the family and how they treat each other. It really is tragic that Ewan and Logan never really solved their problems. But I suppose what Logan became was the problem, not exactly one particular thing he did, which Ewan made clear. Ewan was brutally honest this episode, and I felt like I got to know Logan better on a much more psychological level than before. Amazing writing
I've thought for a while it would be smart of Kendall to recruit Colin to his side. Any meaningful dirt people would have on Kendall could for the most part only be legitimized by Colin. For instance, although Roman, Shiv, Marcia and her son knows Kendall was responsible for the death of the kid at the wedding, Colin is the only one who actually was at the crime scene and knew all the details of what they found. Without him, any attempt at pinning it on Kendall would ultimately only amount to an unfounded rumor in the public eye.
I am amazed at how this incredible detail has gone unremarked upon by every review I've watched today. Not only was it an earth shifting development, it also was funny! Colin's quip about not being happy with it the idea was hilarious, made more so because he accepted.
I thought of it as Colin was always around Logan so having him around would bring some of the familiarity. But it would be a way to control that part also.
I never thought about this aspect of it but that makes perfect sense. Colin pulled his weight and with everything he knows, it's a good idea to keep him close. His knowledge of Kendall's crime is probably why Kendall was so interested in him seeing a therapist.
Honestly, I liked Ewan's speech. Logan was a complicated man, and Ewan's eulogy was probably as honest as any could have been at somebody's funeral. Truth be told, i don't think he was blaming Logan for his sister's death. I think he was trying to show how Logan was treated over something that may or may not even have been true. As hard and abusive as Logan was, he was scarred. Nobody knows that more than Ewan.
How Kendall spotlighted Rom's cockup, to use it against him and to get Rom to do his bidding... reminiscent of Logan manipulating Ken. and that conversation with Hugo "you're going to be my dog. Scraps from my table. but they'll be millions." "Woof woof".... EPIC!!
Great point! Even from S1 E1, Logan pissing on the carpet “in his sleep” haha. Dog/Pavlov references been sewn through all 4 seasons, really great stuff.
Meh, it was the weak point in the series for me. Would Roman really have let it all go to hell that easily? I don't buy it. Think they did Roman dirty here, and it sucks.
Roman has always been weak. He hides it with his cynicism. He’s a sheltered little boy playing toy soldiers. He really thought the whole room was going to be giving him applause because he was so detached from everything. Ewan speaking to the complexities of Logan and sharing personal information about him that most people didn’t know, combined with the casket, Roman cracked facing the reality his dad was dead and he had nothing to say about him except empty platitudes (“my dad was a great man, he built the satellites…”)
@@theajohnson3853 I mean…yea she is selfish AF lol none of them really had a normal upbringing. No paternal or maternal presence. Tom hit the nail on the head, she is just not the type of person to be a mother. None of them are, and Kendal wanting full custody is also selfish, it’s just to F Rava. I have no doubt he loves his kids. But he is non existent and will be because money and power is more important.
She didn’t do coccaine w/Matsson. She faked drinking in that episode. And having a bit of champagne isn’t that bad. Doctors even recommend a bit of wine. Get over it! She is pregnant. She is being careful.
Roman at the funeral ⚱️ and his downward trajectory was a great performance and very believable. Kendall's decision WILL backfire on him. That whole scene about his children was so pathetic. The audacity of SUDDENLY wanting kids he NEVER sees.
I think it makes sense for Kendall. He always forgets his kids and while dealing with how he feels about his father dying he occasionally remembers and starts emulating his father to his kid's mother. He has always considered himself "better" than his father. And occasionally realizing he isn't. He is exactly like him, he tries and shows he cares but quickly reverts back to the company, which is the only thing he truly loves.
God, that scene with Kendall and Rava was so hard to watch. I was so pissed off at him. He wasn't even trying to understand. He lives in this bubble, and can't even stop to think about how his decisions affect the people around him, even when one of those people is his daughter.
I had a very different take and felt sympathetic to Ken. He wanted their kids at their grandpa's funeral; given the number of VIPs, there was overwhelming security so that wasn't a valid concern imo. I think he cares about his kids, but he's juggling (and struggling with) the business/legacy and immediate family.
Kendall loves his kids as much as he is capable, but it’s not a healthy love. They are not his priority. Period. Being the King of this company is the role he wants more than his family.
One thing for sure Logan knew from all of his children Kendall was the closest persona of him that killer mindset, just that Kendall was not sure, insecure and had a heart in S01 which is now corrupted completely Logan Wanted Kendall to be CEO after he completely satisfied him as a ruthless killer bad for him he couldn't saw that unfold and died before it that was his punishment dying alone in a toilet while being fully unsure about his kids or company's future no matter how exhilarating his speech from outside was he seemed sure but deep down it was a state of doubt and nothing else..... Succession is a journey of Logan Corrupting and morally decaying Kendall.....on which it started two of the most important characters of this show
They did it again, this show, it just doesn’t stop getting better and better. It’ll be so sad that we have to say goodbye next week. This episode was just incredible! The speeches on the podium were all so extraordinary, and they perfectly encapsulated who they are with their relationship to their father/brother. Roman kept saying he pre-grieved but as someone who knows how he feels (but with a father who was a far better person than Logan) you just can’t pre-grieve in my opinion. We are all human beings with emotions no matter how hard we try to bottle them up. It could happen before they die, during the time, the funeral or time after that, it’ll hit you eventually. Now, we saw Kendall make another power play with Hugo, and I don’t think we saw Greg in the last several minutes of the episode. Remember those papers he saved way back I think in Season 1? Could those come back to haunt the siblings? It would definitely seem way out of left field to bring that back during the finale, but any thoughts?
Roman broke me twice in this episode. First at the eulogy and later at the ending, I think that was the most anxiety inducing scene in the whole show!! Legit thought he was going to die 😂😂
@@thejosh3866 Shiv called Tom Serville a few episodes back. If I squint I could see Mattson putting Tom in as a puppet, one thing is for sure, he’ll do as told. It def won’t be Shiv.
Greg would need constant supervision and for someone to advise him on everything he does. He doesn't have the acumen to even be a puppet CEO. Tom does but Greg doesn't.
I don't know if this get mentioned, but last week When Tom was yelling at Shiv Kendall told him to back off. This episode when the President was making fun of Roman' s break down, Kendall told the President to lay off. This makes it even more important him telling a soon to be President to back off. I like that about his character. He actually stands up for his siblings. The others never do.
its his big brother instincts,to always protect his younger siblings..even when logan hit roman,he shouted at logan, “do not touch him” ..but at the end of this episode he put roman down just like logan would do..
I think Kendall showed strength in a crisis by picking up on the eulogy after Roman's meltdown. This, for me, shows his ability to lead and be strong under stress. Haven't always seen him as strong, but he did carry the day at the funeral. Great performances by the siblings characters. I somehow don't see Shiv coming out on top. Her pregnancy will be an issue, as well as her inexperience. She thinks she has Mattson locked in, but I have my doubts.
I also liked Kendall spooking Colin with the news he knew he was seeing a Shrink. It kinda reflects when Colin approached Kendall after his intoxicated carwreck, now it it shows Kendall is the one making surprise moves.
I have the weirdest gut feeling that Tom (or Greg) come out on top here. Like the last ep trailer really looked like Shiv was finally going to allow herself to be emotional, and Tom being so far into this family/corporate behaviour, that he will do what he did back in S3.
One thing that i am eager to know is how the writers are gonna end the character arc of the siblings, greg might get a small role considering he has no prior history in corporate, tom i think can play a role but i Believe kendall is gonna win this thing.
Yeah, I feel like it will be Tom for the reasons Shiv gave Mattson about needing an American CEO. Mattson doesn’t feel threatened by Tom and feels like he could still be the puppet master with him as CEO. Tom has the resume and connection to the Roy family. I could see Mattson using Greg as the point person.
@@almaburns6562 that’s the question. Good reason for her to stay with Tom. It just seems like no one takes the Roy children seriously. Kendall is the only one forging ahead MAKING himself CEO. Roman and Shiv act like CEO is going to be something someone gives to them. Roman is already co-CEO by title only.
@@BrainPilot I am blown away how anyone thinks its incredible acting when he acts the exact way in real life? So he says the most unintelligible sentences and vulgar outrageous semi sentences that now the entire cast is mimicking? Thats acting??? In what world would that phrase he said to Shiv in the car be acceptable? Tell me one single person in real life that has a speech pattern like anyone on this show? It was ok in the beginning but now it is just a bunch of overeducated pompous writers catering to people who want to over think every sentence as if it is so literary masterpiece. Just talk!!! It was a great show but now it has been turned into a competition for who has the least understandable conversation or word jumble with the word dick in it. . So you believe Roman would run a publicly traded Co? HOW???? Tom and Shiv have not had one single conversation. its just blurted out words that you would correct a 5 year for talking in the same manner. Without dad to explain what is going on its just drawn out nonsense over and over. Now I am sure I will be told what every singe eye twitch is meant to mean.
Man I cannot just tell how many times i have cried watching an episode of this show, it’s like i feel a deeper connection to these characters, kudos to jesse armstrong, the cast and the entire succession team 👏
What I found so distasteful about Kendall’s eulogy for his father was his justification that Logan built something, thus making up for his brutishness. It’s a common trope in American culture. Donald Trump uses this all the time. He may be crude, distasteful, sexist, racist, and even a complete lout, but don’t forget he built a lot of things. Or so he claims. Kendal’s eulogy was really a justification. He halfheartedly admits that Logan was in some respects a cold and distant person. But he insists that’s the price he had to pay to be a great builder. Kendall’s eulogy is in many ways what Logan would have done, justify by insisting creation is the ultimate goal, morality be damned.
Yeah, that’s the point. The show got the emotion from you that the writers wanted. The eulogy was a pep talk for himself to become a brut… become his father. We’re not talking life or death here. Who ever loses will still be filthy rich. It’s about willing to push everything aside, especially family, to get dad’s approval from the grave… and there can only be one successor.
Brilliant analysis of yet another incredible episode. It seems like they're setting things up for Kendall, but who knows? Anything can happen, and probably will.
I feel like the whole show so far has been 38 episodes to set up a movie. The whole premise is succession and we haven't really got there yet. I think the finale will stand alone and it's going to epic.
Tom telling Shiv that he did say goodbye to Logan is a bit confusing, but in a good way. I thought it was gonna be his attempt to hurt Shiv more, knowing she's really hung up on the fact that she didn't had that chance. And you can clearly see tears building up on Shiv's eyes. But it ends rather peacefully. I don't know I feel like there's something there, but I don't exactly know what.
To me it felt like she was taken aback a bit. Like she underestimated how Tom was ALSO affected by Logan's death and didn't grieve. I felt she had empathy for him in this instant.
Tom didn't attend the funeral and Shiv implied it was because there was no advantage in it to Tom for doing so. Echoing the earlier episodes accusation of tom being a social climber. So him telling her he was there with Logan at the end was his way of showing Shiv that he actually did care about Logan.
@@fahda04. Logan died on the plane mid flight, and Tom and a few others were on the plane as well, so yes, Tom was there when passed away. So is it really saying much that he was “there”? smh…
@@fahda04 Agreed. I think Shiv thought Tom avoided the funeral cause he was being an azz, but Tim saying that he said goodbye was to express that he made peace with Logan’s passing.
Shiv was taken aback by Tom coupling his apology for missing the funeral with him telling her his last moment with Logan. If he was just apologising for missing it she could read that as him covering his ass to not piss her off further. But because no one around her allows themselves to say the truth and be vulnerable about how they feel, Shiv chooses to be kind to him because she can see him genuinely grieving which I’m sure is something she wishes she didn’t have to do alone
I can't help but disagree with your phrasing of Shiv showing "An ounce of care for Tom" this episode. When Tom said he had final words with her Father, her poker face finally dropped and was gone. That was her finally understanding Tom and what he's been going through since Logan died. The acting in this scene was just phenomenal, especially considering she achieved a face I've never seen before from Shiv. It truly gives me hope that her and Tom can finally understand each other, want the best for each other, and come together as a team this final episode.
I did love how Shiv gave an actual Eulogy and not a corperate press response like Kendall did. It wasn't a justifications of unfettered capitalism but a daughter dealing with the confusing legacy of a man she loved.
We should've seen it coming last week, but I didn't. It looked like Roman was stepping up, but in reality, we watched Kendall sell his soul and turn into Logan. The others are following their natural tendencies, while Kendall faced his own integrity and voluntarily decided to ignore it for his own benefit. We watched Kendall do what Logan wanted him to do all along. We all missed it. Kendall dealt with his grief, while Roman buried it and it came back to bite him. We should've seen it coming.......but I didn't
I think this was the first time we saw a Roman ever at his home. I knew he was going to have a hard day once the funeral started but it really broke him! What a great performance
I thought you missed a big opportunity of Conner showing some stamina when at the graveyard. Where he had control and whereabouts of Logans intentions the other siblings had no idea of.
while a case could be made that Roman breaking down in the penultimate episode sets the stage for him being a surprise winner in the finale, I think it's too late now. We're 90 minutes or less away from the end, and the chess pieces are being already set. It's now Kendall versus Siobhan, with maybe a Tom or (gasp) a Greg in the background. So that would mean Roman is out of contention for succession
I think Matsson will choose Tom to be his CEO. In ep1, Logan chose against giving the job to Kendall because he left business to attend his birthday. Tom chose to stay at work, and miss Logan's funeral, and Lukas was there when Greg told Shiv that.
I think the American CEO will be TOM or GERRI. Let me explain why briefly: 1. It could be TOM because Mencken wouldnt suggest/approve Roman (weak), Kendall (Jimenez' supporter) or Shiv (she didnt like him), so, TOM because he was the one who called the election (remember Greg saying this to Mencken when joining the convo with Kendall). Mencken knows ATN helped him and ATN was headed by Tom. 2. It could be GERRI, because Matsson knows Gerri is very good at his job, experienced and even Shiv spoke highly of Gerri to Matsson, noting that she was great at solving problems, etc.
Thank you!! because also this episode showed when they arrived to the cemetery that even if Connor is the one left out he is the only one that actually knew their father, I thought the vídeo will say something about it.
Love this show, but given all the loose ends and the high expectations, I'm not seeing how one final episode can wrap things up in a satisfying way... I guess we'll find out next Sunday. :/
Roman wants every thing but can't handle the responsibility because he's a deeply broken person. Kendal on the other hand.. has his flaws too but he's not so obviously trying to get every thing his way... it's an interesting dynamic between the two. Shiv doesn't want to be left our and Conner.. well.. largely ignored.
But Ewan didn’t tell the polio story to slander Logan. He told it to give him a modicum of grace… no one should be blamed for something like that, out of his control, and yet, his aunt and uncle low key blamed him. Logan’s character was likely compromised under that kind of toxicity. Ewan was actually making a soft excuse for some of Logan’s brutality. On edit, I see this point has been made already, better.
I am not sure you read Tom correctly this time. Tom might be grieving Logan, yes, but I'd rather believe he is actually stressed out by the consequences of calling for Mencken. Or maybe grieving makes the US situation even more stressful than it actually is. And maybe Shiv just feels empathetic for Tom, she understands what Tom is going through these days, and she might be feeling some regret for constantly pushing him.
This final season has been insane. The fact that we saw Roman avoiding seeing Logan after his death, we knew that he was trying to avoid his grief and that he didn't have the stomach to take it, and it culminated in this episode. Seeing him in the middle of the riot reminded us of his chaotic/anarchist Joker nature that, although he swang the nation's political and social direction, he's no one without power, just a normal person being "squashed by his decision". And I think Kendall finally snapped in this episode, if he wasn't a killer before, he is now. He knows that everything is crumbling and he needs to take action. The way he spoke with Roman at the end it was pretty cold and Logan-like.
Imagine if the final shot is Kendall in his office saying hi to his kids as Collin closes the door on Rava. It won’t be that way but after this episode I definitely got the image in my mind
the scene where roman break down and asked "is he really in there?" was the moment for me. especially shivs reaction. all over this scene i was just thinking one thing, they are all just kids with an awful trauma
Every single character this episode nailed it, even the timid scene of Kendall’s assistant letting him know she was leaving. Logan deserved that eulogy. Well scripted and best season as of yet. ❤
Kendall saying he hopes there is something of Logan in him, reminded me of 'There Will be Blood' where the "son" says, 'I thank God there is nothing of you in me.' Tom having work to do was not an excuse. He really did have work to do because shit is going down in society. Anyway, Matsson seemed impressed. Tom will be staying on if Matsson wins control. Under Greg as the new CEO.
We keep forgetting that these season takes place in a week-a week. So, it’s only inevitable that people are gonna have breakdowns during these extremely stressful few days.
I just don’t feel like Kendall will finish at the top. I still don’t think he has what it takes and tries so hard to go through the motions of trying to be that person. I’m not sure who will reign supreme and believe there will be a wicked plot twist.
I was little bit disappointed with last weeks. It was good but my least favourite of the season. However todays episode was brilliant. Up there with E3.
I think since Rome did not have his father, his need to be hit and abused is taken out on the street. It's really sad. It's his only way to feel connection to someone he loved and now that the love is gone, he is forced to look for abuse everywhere else. That's my take anyway.
His whole is m.o is to fuck up then be abused/abuse others so they'll kick his ass for it. It's a pattern that's played out throughout the series and obviously his whole life (eg. the dog pound game where he doesn't remember asking to be locked up). He needs the abuse. He's a masochist basically, though it's strange I never hear anyone call him that. Taking to the street at the end is a reflection of the times he lashed out at random staffers after Logan berated him and also when Shiv said "things happen" in ep 8. That self loathing has to be met with violence, only this time he's confronting his fuck ups head on. He's less afraid of a million protesters than he was of his dad.
I think it's fair to say that Roman is out. Roman was always just Logan's lapdog. Any play he made he did because of Logan and after Logan's death it's "What would Dad do?". Now that Logan is gone, he has no one. Shiv has had the right thing in mind this season but she is way out of her depth. I think it's fairly obvious that Matsson doesn't actually trust her and is just using her to get at her siblings and get the deal done. After the whole thing with Ebba, I doubt he wants appoint another woman to a high position. If the deal goes through, I think he either makes Tom or Greg the US CEO just out of spite and because it would be hilarious. Then there is Kendall. I think Kendall is the main character in this story. He's had the most meaningful arc. In a way, he is finally becoming what is Dad wanted him to be. He's playing dirty and doing whatever he can to win, regardless of the bridges he burns with his family along the way. He's winning over Logan's inner circle too. I'd love to see an ending where he finally manages to secure the company, but loses everything else, including himself. Then the ultimate question is left, was it all worth it? Great video. I'm beyond excited for the finale!
The speech Kendall delivered was amazing. It has been evident this season that he has the ability to rise to the occasion.
1 Kendall Logan Roy
I thought for a moment at the end Roman was not going to make it through the crowds and trouble brewing up. Maybe Kendall prevails after season 1&2 failures - maybe he is the “killer” that Logan said he wasn’t but there is Greg who seems to be moving up and he needs to be considered a dark horse. This is basically King Lear with Armani suits and IPhones - what a brilliant show and well written, acted and directed
KLR = Killer@@kamanyakatizanuhu1055
I agree
Exactly, I thought it was one of the most touching moments in the whole series. There's also a mention of it in season one where ewan says "I don't blame you for what happened to Rose"
Agree!
I agree. He was sympathizing with the feelings of guilt Logan carried with him all of his life.
I totally agree
Very true, he is not ceo material at all. He is a good executive though. There were so many powerful ppl at the funeral so it really crushed any hope Roman had of being ceo. Kendall wasn't being mean he was being brutally honest.
Logan was NOT a good and moral man across the board, these are facts. Ewans eulogy seemed to give him human aspect while not absolving him from the brute he was.
Shiv is the only moral character. She wants to protect democracy.
Remember last season when she didn’t even want to be in the picture with him
@@bash547 i hope this is sarcasm
Those are my predictions!
totally agree with you here
You’ve hit the nail on the head with this one!!!!
That would be sooo good! But i think he is talking to Hugo like that because didn't Hugo's daughter sell her stocks before the public knew Logan died? That would be considered inside trading correct? So i think thats why he has Hugo in his back pocket.
This would be the perfect ending.
This would be a great ending!
Roman wasn't looking to release anger by moving into the crowd - he was looking to be punished.
Yes it was a walk of shame
Absolutely! It's something he's done many times.
I think there’s a simpler explanation to the character arcs. Roman thought he could be Logan. He learns it’s not in him. Kendal said he couldn’t be Logan. He’s learned he can.
Perfect!
Kendall enters the funeral scene as himself but exits as Logan. The transformation here felt akin to that of Michael Corelone's at the hospital in The Godfather. The mantle has been passed.
Such a good transformation!
Even the movement of hands during speech, is same as Logan
Kieran Culkin needs an Emmy for that performance. This episode highlighted the siblings weaknesses, Roman is emotionally weak, Shiv isn't very smart, Kendall can't control his personal life and Connor is just clueless.
I often wonder why the writers chose to make Conner so clueless🤔He’s the first born son usually they carry more weight in a family dynamic. They never gave us much of his backstory except that his Mom has mental illness
Kendall is the epitome of overcompensating, he just does too fucking much and you can tell no one takes him seriously
Logan had his mother locked up in an institution and it's hinted that she took her own life. He had to be brought up by a loveless father and stepmother. I think Connor is actually the most resilient Roy sibling. He emotionally checked out of his family years ago.
@@Kjærli_Lyst-hår
ℹ thought Connor’s Mother was just institutionalized? Where did it say that she killed her self? Or where did it say that she was institutionalized because she tried to kill her self?
Logan did send his mom to the nut house
Yes, though Shiv's eulogy was emotional, I also felt she primarily got up there because Kendall did such a good job. Man, powerplaying like that at your own dad's funeral.
Yeah, it feels like nothing is off limits for them!
That is exactly how Logan shaped them! They tried their entire lives to impress him and earn his love, he failed them as children on so many occasions, cared for no one but himself, and that is the result! absolutely normal! emotional abuse at its finest
@@dinai9340 that's a great point
@@misslostintime1999 Kendall has likely been doing this to Rom since they were children. He knows how to manipulate Rom.
@@almaburns6562 I agree. He likes to do it and Roman likes to be manipulated by him it's the cage story all over again
That last sentence sums her up to perfection this season even in her own marriage.
@@LoKimLinProject "even in her own marriage" the fuck does this mean when Tom still sticks with her?
I have only cried once at this show and it was Roman breaking down. "Can we get him out" killed me.
That part reminded me of my dads funeral I felt and said the same thing!
The “can we get him out” broke my heart 💔
That was Roman’s internal little boy grieving.
ℹ just wanted to hug 🫂 him. 🙏🏽😇💔❌⭕️
Yeah same here bruv that was such a strong emotional scene that we knew was coming but that didnt make seeing it hurt any less. Gonna miss this show when it ends sunday. Def gonna have to rewatch all seasons.
It hurt me so bad I remember both of my parents funeral and as soon as I seen their caskets I just broke down
Roman joined the chaos coz he wants to feel pain. That's how Logan showed love, kicking a dog, watch it come back. Kendall was awful to Roman in the end. He always wants it all but he won't get it. Shiv will get burned by Matsson. Caroline gathering all of Logan's women and Ewan's speech were highlights.
At times this felt like a funeral for Romans character professionally. He now has no chance of becoming the winner.
Why do u tell the internet something so private?
Lost mine in 2018 too. Best day ever. The anniversary of his death is coming up. Time to celebrate. I do feel for you though. I hated my dad and he hated me but it seems like yours was a good dad.

@@TheCoolestJose Why do you feel the need to make such a comment?! Not very cool, bro.
@@cankerbloom9015 agreed!
I agree. I think it was foreshadowed by how he was acting after the funeral. He took over the role that Roman was hoping to take.
That’s my prediction too, but he will have to push Roman and his family to the side first before delivering the final blow to his sister. He’s finally ready to be that brut.
@@cankerbloom9015 why am I happy and gutted at the same time?
I liked Ewan's speech. It showed Logan wasn't perfect but flawed like every person. Great episode 👏
You were formely under the impression Logan was perfect?
Think this can go one two ways:
I enjoyed the scene when Logan’s ex-wife invited Kerry to come and join Logan’s other women then introduced Marcia to the other lady from her past.
The "She was my Kerri" to Marcia was just phenomenal
With all the stress and grief, Ken didn’t do any drugs to cope. A lot of progress from him.
Look at Kendall’s face when he recruits Hugo and Colin.
He's already got godfather, Frank.
EPIC!!
That was a such a great moment!

@merrymeditation I disagree, for me it immediately reminded me of the failed rocket launch. Roman cracks under pressure
@@MrVisde Great analysis!
Shiv drinking champagne (or tequila, whatever) while pregnant has the same vibe as Skyler White smoking while pregnant scene.
Let’s not forget partaking in a line of coke with Mattson.
Shiv drinking and doing drugs while pregnant really confused me. Is she that selfish? Not a good look at all.
I was expecting Roman's implosion but the execution was still gut wrenching. Excellent writing, direction, and acting.
Succession is a journey of Logan Corrupting and morally decaying Kendall.....on which it started two of the most important characters of this show
Ewan looking at Kendall after Kendall's speech was a nice touch. Maybe he saw Logan in Kendall.
Yep. I saw Logan in Kendell. Especially when he tells Roman he fucked it at the end all calm and business-like. That was Logan through and through.
The papers were given to Kendall in season 3, but they weren’t significant enough to take the company/ Logan down. That storyline was concluded
@Georgia Makris Ohh that's right. I forgot about that. Thanks.

He's been a killer. He's just brutally flawed. But he's the only one who truly went after Logan's head on multiple occasions.
The moment Marsa took Karly hand was so sweet
I also liked Kendall spooking Colin with the news he knew he was seeing a Shrink. It kinda reflects when Colin approached Kendall after his intoxicated carwreck, now it it shows Kendall is the one making surprise moves.
I have the weirdest gut feeling that Tom (or Greg) come out on top here. Like the last ep trailer really looked like Shiv was finally going to allow herself to be emotional, and Tom being so far into this family/corporate behaviour, that he will do what he did back in S3.
One thing that i am eager to know is how the writers are gonna end the character arc of the siblings, greg might get a small role considering he has no prior history in corporate, tom i think can play a role but i
Believe kendall is gonna win this thing.
My guess is Tom because Greg's too dumb. But Greg will have an important position
@@MrVisde I'm wondering how Shiv will feel towards Tom if he's given the position she coveted.
Kieran stole the show this episode. Incredible acting!! I have no idea how this show is gonna end...
Totally agree!
Totally agree - this piece was pure art! They managed to capture real life. It was so powerful
I dont usually cry when watching even the saddest movies but damn, the writers of succession and the actors got me hard.
Ewan was stating that it was not Logans fault for spreading the disease to his sister but it was his fault for spreading it to the world
Brilliant analysis of yet another incredible episode. It seems like they're setting things up for Kendall, but who knows? Anything can happen, and probably will.
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Seriously … brilliant ?
@@nadagabri5783 Yes. Seriously.
I feel like the whole show so far has been 38 episodes to set up a movie. The whole premise is succession and we haven't really got there yet. I think the finale will stand alone and it's going to epic.
Totally agree - I have a feeling it's going to be a really good one!
Absolutely phenomenal performances. The complexity of these characters is delicious.
Shiv is clearly being set up to get screwed over. Also the whole drinking whole pregnant shows you what kind of parent she’s gonna be.
Nice. I didn't even notice she was drinking.
The drinking whilst pregnant is indicative of how there are no consequences when you are that rich and powerful, consequences are for other people.
bro kendall kicking roman in the ground was some psycho stuff
Yeah I felt bad for Roman there!
I am genuinely concerned about Roman's mental health. I cried when he cried. I hope he doesn't do anything tragic
It was such an emotional moment!
I did love how Shiv gave an actual Eulogy and not a corperate press response like Kendall did. It wasn't a justifications of unfettered capitalism but a daughter dealing with the confusing legacy of a man she loved.
Very true!
Mattsson is playing Shiv. I think Greg will be the American CEO
One thing is for sure, the finale is going to be insane.
Definitely!
A self contained movie that is actually about Succession finally.
This is looking like a Godfather 2 ending 😮
We should've seen it coming last week, but I didn't. It looked like Roman was stepping up, but in reality, we watched Kendall sell his soul and turn into Logan. The others are following their natural tendencies, while Kendall faced his own integrity and voluntarily decided to ignore it for his own benefit.
We watched Kendall do what Logan wanted him to do all along. We all missed it.
Kendall dealt with his grief, while Roman buried it and it came back to bite him. We should've seen it coming.......but I didn't
Who is we? Cause I saw this coming episodes ago...
I think this was the first time we saw a Roman ever at his home. I knew he was going to have a hard day once the funeral started but it really broke him! What a great performance
Episode 4, you see the three siblings in their homes. Roman was brushing his teeth.
@Abracadabra oh okay. I always wondered why we never saw him at home oh, I must have missed that one.
My schadenfreude was going off the rails when Roman broke down. So satisfying to watch.
I thought you missed a big opportunity of Conner showing some stamina when at the graveyard. Where he had control and whereabouts of Logans intentions the other siblings had no idea of.
Connor may the only Roy Winner. In end he landed the girl, the job in politics he wanted and stayed out of the power strugle drama
while a case could be made that Roman breaking down in the penultimate episode sets the stage for him being a surprise winner in the finale, I think it's too late now. We're 90 minutes or less away from the end, and the chess pieces are being already set. It's now Kendall versus Siobhan, with maybe a Tom or (gasp) a Greg in the background. So that would mean Roman is out of contention for succession
What if Ewen emerges and takes Waystar to the “green” corporation he desires. That would really be a twist. He F$% everybody
I hold a space open for the Gerri/Roman alliance to reform. I hope Roman comes out guns blazing tbh.
I don’t think so. This episode balanced out the previous one that had Roman coming out on top. It made for a better fall in this episode.
The acting is outstanding!!!
It definitely is!
Such an emotional episode, that funeral scene with Roman broke my heart... 😢 Kieran Culkin is amazing actor...
Yeah he was fantastic!
I spend almost the whole episode crying with them, such good actors my god, and I'm already feel sorry for that poor baby
Let me explain why briefly:
Logan fucking Roy. The man's a planet, even dead he's still influencing everyone.
That final episode better be some two hours 😭😭😭😭
I think it is a long one - the longest yet!
i dont like these characters, obviously love watching them, but man- that scene with roman had me bawling like a baby
All of Logans paramours sitting in a row of human scorched earth... good writing. Whew!😮
This season has been incredible even with Logan gone…damn…I’m still and will always be team Greg…he was great in this episode too 😂
He was! How uncomfortable he looked after the bike ride lol
@@BrainPilot lol yeah and he had one job to do and couldn’t do it 😂
I cried with Roman, he broke my heart 😢
It was such a sad moment!
It’s going to be Edgar … err ummm, Poor Tom. Tom sits in the car next to Mattson as he speaks to Shiv.
I was surprised when they left Connor out of making his speech but it seems even this video forgot him😂😂
Connor wouldn't shit the bed as Roman did.
Thank you!! because also this episode showed when they arrived to the cemetery that even if Connor is the one left out he is the only one that actually knew their father, I thought the vídeo will say something about it.
Succession had better sweep all the Emmie's 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
I just realized Logan and Ewan’s story is basically the Dumbledore siblings’ story lol
I knew the story sound so familiar! 😂
Menken won't block Mattson, but Shiv won't be named CEO (maybe Gerri?). All will be on the outside
That would be a cool twist!
The Joker running around somewhere at the end of the episode.
Tom is gonna be the next ceo
the scene where roman break down and asked "is he really in there?" was the moment for me. especially shivs reaction. all over this scene i was just thinking one thing, they are all just kids with an awful trauma
Yeah Shivs reaction was equally as important on making that scene so convincing!
Every single character this episode nailed it, even the timid scene of Kendall’s assistant letting him know she was leaving. Logan deserved that eulogy. Well scripted and best season as of yet. ❤
Kendall saying he hopes there is something of Logan in him, reminded me of 'There Will be Blood' where the "son" says, 'I thank God there is nothing of you in me.'
Tom having work to do was not an excuse. He really did have work to do because shit is going down in society. Anyway, Matsson seemed impressed. Tom will be staying on if Matsson wins control. Under Greg as the new CEO.
Love how Kendall's eulogy about Logan being a man of action spurred him on to take action and make moves the way his father did.
So true! Perfectly mirrored
I can see a HUGE Death Flag on Roman..
We keep forgetting that these season takes place in a week-a week. So, it’s only inevitable that people are gonna have breakdowns during these extremely stressful few days.
Very true!
Yeah this weeks episode was really something special!
Hated seeing Roman crash and burn like that but it makes sense. I feel like Shiv will hold killing the guy over Kendall in the finale to win.
Team Kendall all the way! But I fear Greg might take over. I don’t know why but I felt that since the middle of season 1
This was a great episode. Great writing, acting, the actors. Ngl, I was crying during this ep.
Yeah the scene with Roman breaking down caught me off guard!
@@BrainPilot - OMG!!! Same. He is the baby in all his siblings, and just seeing his fam comfort him, that really touched me.
