Canadian here, early 2000s almost 70% of all Canadians would’ve said immigration is needed to build the economy that it is a good thing. Now it’s down into the low 20%. Why is this and why did we see such an increase in immigration over last last couple of years? Canada is facing an age crisis, in the 1970s there was 7 workers for 1 retired person. By 2032 it is estimated there will be 2 workers per 1 retired person. So Trudeau acted how Canada has always operated since the 1800s, relied on immigration BUT this time did not use the merit system we Canadians have in place. A mass flood of people entered the country without housing, not following the system if they can benefit Canada, so it ultimately failed. The plan Trudeau was trying to do was correct, but was executed poorly. I’ve never seen Canada like this how much people are freely ripping on immigrants, not understanding that is how Canada was built in the first place. It is not their fault it is the governments fault for doing such poor planning to combat the age crisis.
@@connordd8015 Yea. The plan was bad. The spirit of immigration helping an economy grow and building a workforce is sound. It's hard to ignore that everywhere you go is dominated by immigrants buying or renting houses, working jobs on temp. student visas (while not actually attending school) while citizens are struggling to get by, they're adding even more traffic to a congested city, and often times (as much as I hate that I feel this way) acting like assholes, with very little consideration for those around them. The biggest problem with housing in Canada is that it's 100% a municipal issue, but the only people who reliably vote in municipal elections are homeowners. People who rent generally don't vote in municipal elections all that often. So what winds up happening is that the politicians who get elected know that they're elected to keep housing costs as high as possible, so they shoot down as many housing proposals as possible, focusing particularly on anything "low cost", so all that gets built are McMansions and gentrification projects, which do the literal opposite of lowering housing prices. Of course, most people who don't own a home don't understand this, so they just go "oh, it's all these foreign students and temporary workers coming into the country who are buying up all the houses", completely ignoring the fact that none of them have any chance of affording a home, and in fact, are temporarily legally prohibited from buying one anyway (there's a moratorium on foreign buyers of real estate currently).

Canadian here! Majority of people here love immigration, rightfully so, but it's too much right now. The point based system is letting so many in when they don't have positions for them. Homes are unaffordable for everyone so we've got loads of vacant apartments and townhouses. Even if prices were reasonable, we're about 1.44m homes away from being able to house everyone with the average of 2.5 people per house.
We're also just not allowed to talk about any of the real negatives of having your entire country be immigrants, like not being able to have an extended conversation with any of your coworkers because they don't speak proper english, blatantly racist hiring practices, etc etc, because if you complain about ANY aspect of immigration, you're simply misinformed and racist
Most immigrants don’t buy houses more than normal people. Are there more immigrants? Yes. This is a symptom of a long term problem, There not being enough houses is the fault of the government not properly regulating the private market and increase in affordable housing
@@hubbley3482The housing market being a problem isn't necessary of immigrant however mad immigration has definitely made it worse than somewhere like the USA. The Chinese slang crackdowns are such an obsession to me… think about any language control in any app. If you can express yourself at all then stand-ins will be made. To be clear, Javier Milei is the most popular polititian in Argentina, by far. Everyone, even the opposition, agrees strong measures were needed - though it was only ever going to be implemented by him.
I'm shocked people are finding out about it just now. I noticed this back in 2017 when chinese junk was starting to flood amazon and wondered how much money amazon loses on their retail and delivery business. Like it's unsustainable. It got so much worse after covid. But apparently the profit from AWS cancels out the losses so 7 years later the service while not as nice as it was before still works more or less the same just more expensive. Amazon hasn't cracked down on it yet, but I'm sure their answer will just be to raise prices even more. Like I'm shocked amazon prime isn't $200+/year at this point. If amazon starts to actively retaliate, the government will insta step in to break them up so they have to do it "stealthily".
Every time I see a global economy video, I'm more and more happy about the fact that I'm Uruguayan. I mean for fuck's sake. My estrogen is covered by public health. Hopefully it'll stay like this for a while.
As European youtube frog I greatly appreciate a global episode. I hope there's a change for this to become recurring. Lets say once a month anything besides U.S focus. Anything major going on globally works.
It's not really Milei's charisma that's doing it, it's the fact that a lot of Argentinians realize that the entire frigging country wasn't just heading toward a crash or recession but just a total economic collapse and that the previous administrations, which Milei had nothing to do with, are the ones who put them in this mess. What Milei is doing is having adverse effects sure but it's also totally necessary. It's like the side effects of chemotherapy which, don't get me wrong, can be really brutal but they're still better than just letting cancer kill you.
Canadian here, Trudeau has done something truly amazing and unite seemingly the entire country under one cause, that of course being absolutely hating his guts
6:10 what does that even mean? “they cant switch to a 4 day work week right now because the economy is bad.” You literally just got done explaining that the 4 day work week raised productivity and revenue drastically. But then you immediately treat it as if it lowers productivity and revenue?
Changing the labour markets cause instability that germany can't afford now. Transition also causes inefficiency so we wouldn't see results for atleast a year while also dealing with decreased productivity.
@@VeilureYou could also argue the opposite. Right now could be the best moment to switch things up to get Germany out of this recession. I think both these ideas are valid but you need to strike a balance between them.
Okay I think the term productivity is being confused with output. Higher productivity means that in a set time more output is made. However, because the less productive group is working longer, the output is still greater for the 5 day work week. To do the maths: In order for the 4 day work week to produce the same output as the 5 day work week you would need to be 25% more productive (4x1.25 = 5) One problem with the report is that a few companies dropped out which would imply that the result for them was negative as they didn't want to continue with the 4 day work week. Also, work structures changed as many of the companies had shorter meetings, which could be argued as a by product of a shorter work week, but is also something that could be implemented in a 5 day work week to increase productivity. I may have misunderstood what they mean by productivity as it isn't clearly described anywhere that I have looked and the productivity I have defined is harder to measure so might not be the metric they are defining.
As a German, I gotta say, that productivity test was just that, a test. Every upper management agreed, this will not work in a real life situation. The productivity boost that comes from the people being happy having "a day off" wears off in a couple of weeks and is gone forever.
I'm not so sure that the boost would be "gone forever." Weakened, yes, I'll agree on that much, but in the real life, long term context, it would likely still have tons of benefits. Such as less burn out, better for mental health (namely depression), less strain on the physical body (if one works a strenuous job), benefits for family and social life (a big one)... Just to name a few. But, properly gauging this in the long term systematically is difficult, and would require longer periods anyway. But... Atroic brings up a good point. In that the reduction in hours, for most people, would translate to lower total wages. Without intervention, businesses will keep the 5th day savings for themselves, which may increase overall inequality in the country. And, push people to take on more work (legal or not) to make ends meet... thus, eliminating the benefits from a 4 day work week. Basically, the 4 day week has possible benefits, but there would also have to be significant interventions at the governmental level to make this work. Dramatic system wide changes. Which I don't see happening.
24:35 As someone who dropships. People don't realize how many American brands are just using chinese products and providing better marketing because thats just easier. You're essentially a marketing firm generating business level numbers that can be split amongst a small team instead of a bunch of shareholders - in 20 years this type of arbitrage on a large enough scale will cause a wealth transfer from boomers to TEENAGERS who abused geopological arbitrage (no I dont have a course) Edit; with dropshipping you have the price of temu, but can make a website that has trust like amazon. That’s inaccurate, those are just projections, not a real study. It might have gone down compared to the numbers from january 2024 (during Milei’s mandate)
Why did atrioc say germany can't cut hours when he literally said that it boosts productivity mere seconds earlier? Or does that have nothing to do with it?
18:00 A lot of international people are repeating this nonsense. Poverty did not grew by Mileis cutting the deficit. Argentina already was in stagflation since 2011, and last year we had a recession with record inflation, the poverty rose to 50% during november-december due to inflation+depreciation of the currency, not because of milei cutting the budget. In fact, povert is already below those levels precisely because he managed to slow down inflation+keep the dollar in check. That's also why he's still popular, it's not because "he's charismatic" it's because everyone here knows the previous economic model was collapsing, so nothing can actually be blamed on the guy that reduced inflation from 20% a month to 2.9% a month in just 11 months. We already estimate that next year inflation is gonna be around 25-30% a year, which might sound like a lot to foreigners, but Milei took power in a year with 211% a year. In his first year he reduced it by half. And if that prognosis is fullfilled, he would've reduced it by another half in his second year. Those numbers are the source of his popular support.
Actually, poverty is already down to pre-Milei levels in Argentina. It's not much, since Argentina was fucked before he was elected, but the fact the country is already starting to reap the benefits from the austerity shock is amazing. Inflation is down 90%, economic activity is coming back, credit is skyrocketing, investments both national and international are growing, etc.
@@Zoulstorm You can use INDEC to see the downtrend during the first semester of 2024 and for everything past that you can either use private consultant's reports or wait till next year for the official INDEC report. And all of this is true even without taking into account the previous administration's data manipulation. If you factor in that then the decline in poverty is even bigger.

Hope you're having a great day I write this bc i know you are a guy interested in the subject and won't take it as an attack :))) I've been reading and investigating about argentinian politics and economics, and what Milei is doing right now is quite analogous to what Menem (ex argentinian president) did in the 90's, that at one point had the argentian peso be 1 to 1 with the US dollar, but ultimately led to one of Argentina's (and neighbouring countries of the Mercosur) worst crisis in 2001. If i were you, i would read about him, i think you'll find concerning the similarities and fascinating the differences. Maybe I'm wrong about this take, but hope you get to read it and comment about it!! :)
Many have compared milei with him. And that is why people are so critical of him as that guy has controversial legacy. People fear that history would repeat.
18:42 we have seen it before. Thatcher did it to the UK in the 80s and Reagan did it here. Milei has stated that he’s her biggest fan so it’s not surprising that he’s copying her (and Reagan’s) model. Everything turned out great for the US and UK so I’m sure Argentina will be fine. 🙄

Canadian here. So what you're saying is it was a bad plan lmao
@MrNintendoSwag Not taking Brits Americans and Aussies instead was his mistake
@@connordd8015 Yea. The plan was bad. The spirit of immigration helping an economy grow and building a workforce is sound. Trudeau didn't really understand what that meant, we must forgive him, he is just an 11th grade arts and crafts teacher whom had inappropriate relations with one of his 17 year old students.
@@longiusaescius2537 Yea but Trudeau told us that the life of a muslim is worth like 3 or 4 Aussies. So we're getting better bang for our buck or something? I dunno how it works, Trudenomics is confusing.
As a progressive hippy liberal cuck raised in BC, I moved to Toronto last year and only now can I see why people are pissed about immigrants.

I'm not saying that the current government is doing a perfect job and that people are having a great time because that would be a lie, but I can tell you that, for once in my life, I feel like I'm going to live in a normal country without such absurd levels of inflation and corruption. People truly have hope, which hasn't been felt in years. Yeah, I'm pretty sure I got like at least 3 different special coins for free just handed to the whole class at school when growing up. I even have a round 50c coin which is still value-less because it's part of the mint they did when they got rid of them which was massive so it's not even rare.

More people in the country means more competition to but a single home, meaning that that home owner can charge more. It obviously doesn't mean immigration needs to stop, that's stupid. It means that it needs to slow down and be more selective. Getting more high skilled younger people should become the priority
@@hubbley3482 I think you’re missing the point. People aren’t saying immigrants are buying all our houses, we’re saying we don’t even have them to begin with. It makes the market more competitive when the demand is getting higher but the supply is still way too low.

The Temu-Amazon glitch is crazy
It is cool, but when it's patched to address bad actors...
The normal customers are gonna get a worse experience because of them :/
I'm shocked people are finding out about it just now.

I haven't heard of that 4 day work week test, that's rlly cool!
6:10 what does that even mean? “they cant switch to a 4 day work week right now because the economy is bad.” You literally just got done explaining that the 4 day work week raised productivity and revenue drastically. But then you immediately treat it as if it lowers productivity and revenue?
He’s saying that NOW of all times is not a good time to impose sweeping changes to the labor force.
To do the maths:
In order for the 4 day work week to produce the same output as the 5 day work week you would need to be 25% more productive (4x1.25 = 5)
One problem with the report is that a few companies dropped out which would imply that the result for them was negative as they didn't want to continue with the 4 day work week.
Really informative, thanks for the research!
People be like "howd they build the great pyramids of giza" while ignoring how the line is currently being built. Hmm i wonder how.

As a German, I gotta say, that productivity test was just that, a test. Every upper management agreed, this will not work in a real life situation. The productivity boost that comes from the people being happy having "a day off" wears off in a couple of weeks and is gone forever.
Yeah, it's a single use candy. Then it becomes the norm. And if you take it away, people are pissed.
@kenabaloyan8798 Exactly.

So many things to say about this video. But I will sum it with one word: magnificent
Your map for Russia is incorrect 0:49 Crimea is internationally recognized as Ukrainian territory.
These mental acrobatics are cray-cray.
@@HolyAvgr if you are not argentinian, you are talking without knowing, if you are argentinian, a seguir llorando kuka
Do you have any sources for that?
@@Zoulstorm You can use INDEC to see the downtrend during the first semester of 2024 and for everything past that you can either use private consultant's reports or wait till next year for the official INDEC report.

Hello Atrioc!! Hope you're having a great day
I write this bc i know you are a guy interested in the subject and won't take it as an attack :)))
I've been reading and investigating about argentinian politics and economics, and what Milei is doing right now is quite analogous to what Menem (ex argentinian president) did in the 90's, that at one point had the argentian peso be 1 to 1 with the US dollar, but ultimately led to one of Argentina's (and neighbouring countries of the Mercosur) worst crisis in 2001.
