I have been visiting Istanbul very often for many years. I have experienced most of the best hotels, including recent ones, but there is one that my wife and I fell in love with. The hotel is called Hotel Bebek and is located in the sector of the same name. Bebek is located on the edge of the Bosphorus in one of the most "chic" sectors of Istanbul. It is a luxury hotel, but not the most flashy or pompous, in its bar on the shore of the Bosphorus, the most select of the city meets in the afternoons, its restaurant is of excellent quality and has a wonderful view. As information: From Bebek, to Tarabya bordering the Bosphorus route, are the most luxurious mansions and properties in the city, as well as the best fish and seafood restaurants.
I stayed in Istanbul in the 80s and needless to say none of these hotels were around at the time. I stayed in a Hilton, which was notable for troops placed outside the entrance armed with submachine guns, presumably to protect the guests. Different times.
