  • Here l light a fire with what l call the 'poor mans wazoo fire card'
    then l show another really compact form of tinder, it's not as effective
    but you can also wipe your backside with it!

    There is just something so therapeutic about the way you build a fire, lovely to watch.

    Hi Rob. I make fire starters from egg boxes, filling the egg pockets with either sawdust or small pine cones, and drenching them with candle wax, as a by product of this I use the flat card from the egg box lids, I soak with melted wax then cut into strips that I put on my Mora sheaths, behind a lighter all held in place with elastic bands made from old bicycle inner tubes. Simply scratch up the surface of the card with the tip of your blade and drop a few sparks on it, het presto, fire! Dirt cheap too.

    How nice to see you out in the wilderness once again. I make my own fire starting material but won't get into that because everyone has their own method. I have carried a small amount of rubber pond liner (16'x24")with me that is used for kneeling, sitting on, and great for containing wood scrapings, shavings. It roles up very tightly and doesn't take up as much space as canvas. It's also a source of combustion material. Doesn't smell good when burning but works in any weather. Great content as usual and always a learning experience.

    Hi Rob always nice to get back out into the woods. Try a piece of Jute twin soaked in wax is a good one and reusable to 👍🏻

      Done that mate, I've ordered some cellulose to try that out, few people have suggested it, compact and waterproof.

    Nice to see you out.
    Ranger bands / inner tube strips are always handy wrapped on a sheath.

      Been thinking of getting like a foot square or bigger of thin rubber, can throw it down on wet ground for collecting scrappings and such, and if really come unstuck take a slice off it.

      @@RobEvansWoodsman Rob , if you go to any cycle shop they will usually give you an old inner tube for nothing ! (If they have a charity box I put a donation into it). The only thing to be aware of is getting one that is the right size, as they come in different diameters, for whatever you want it for. Happy Trails.

    I'm new here. Is that knife a puukko of some sort?

    • @RobEvansWoodsman
      @RobEvansWoodsman  4 місяці тому

      No , it's a full tang zero scandi grind knife.
      A pukko usually has a stick tang and true scandi grind.
      Pukko actually means Small knife but generally regarded as what I just mentioned.
      Thanks for watching.
