What makes Elfen Lied so special is that it was never afraid to be blatantly upsetting, even if that meant putting the viewer in highly uncomfortable situations. There's no good ending here, at least in the anime. You get a tragic, bitter, disastrous tale of loneliness and loss, and the melancholic soundtrack accents this perfectly. One of my Top 3 anime of all time, and I'll never forget it.

Well, the anime doesn't exactly have a "happy ending", but it's not a bad ending either. The very end is deliberately left open to interpretation and it seems that "Nyu" actually came back at the very end while "Lucy" may have died. So her other personality may have a second chance. While most viewers would crave to get a more closing and conclusive ending, I think it's actually great to leave it to the viewers imagination. It's a lot closer to classical book writing where the reader has to interpret and imagine a lot of details on their own. It requires a bit of creativity and lefts the viewer with an ending as they see fit. I haven't read the manga, but I've heard what people have said. It seems to have a much darker ending (with him fulfilling the promise that she demanded from him in the bus). Well, in the end it's a horror story so you should have a healthy mind before watching this :)

Actually, the original Japanese writer did a writing project in latin (some poem or something) and she loved the sound of Latin so much she wrote Lillium in Latin. Her Latin wasn't that great though so she mispronounced some stuff. This singer pronounces Latin better though

We adjust how we pronounce latin lyrics depending on the country of origins and the time period. It's not going to sound the same if it's a song from 13th century England or if it's a song from 16th century Florence.

so far this is the best religious anime songs that created by japanese. the others are already created by the church n the legendary classic musicians (beethoven, bach, mozart)
Also classical artists usually have nothing to do with the creation of these religious songs and in fact their songs are usually just slapped on as background music by the Catholic Church
@@duko1154 That neither has the same melody nor lyrics lol The tone of it was based on catholic hymns and the lyrics are passages from the bible in Latin and Greek. The music itself was original to the anime aiming for it to sound like it's from an older time and, based on how many people get confused on this, I think they succeeded.
There’s two of each here. 😂 The violinist on our right is female… but I must have missed the look. I’ve been revisiting an old flash animation that featured this song. Edit to say: I think I saw the look mentioned, and it’s not flirtatious, but recognition of a difficult part executed without error!
The singing is perfect and fits beautifully with the violins and piano. Very well done, especially with the note at 2:30, it takes a lot of skill to hit that note that well.
I watched Elfenlied twice and I sweared myself to never watch it again. I cryed like a husty and my sould was empty after watching it.... A week. But i know, that I will watch Elfenlied once again... somwhere in the future. It is now 4 years ago... And it's still so deep inside me. 😢

People have only speculations on how it is probably pronounced, but there are different theories about it. That was what I have been hearing about latin since day one.

But if you studied it and know the history, latin being a dead language and all, how could you say that? I sing in a choir that perform medieval music exclusively. We adjust how we pronounce latin lyrics depending on the country of origins and the time period. It's not going to sound the same if it's a song from 13th century England or if it's a song from 16th century Florence.

The tone of it was based on catholic hymns and the lyrics are passages from the bible in Latin and Greek. The music itself was original to the anime aiming for it to sound like it's from an older time and, based on how many people get confused on this, I think they succeeded.
