I'm a jazz pianist and have worked as a professional musician for 30 years. The musical depth in Harrell's solo is something I hear and feel - what I was saying is that you can actually see it in a transcription and learn from it, too, as a musician. There is nothing sophomoric about Bach, so anyone who wants to "lol" about J.S. should realize that the "lol" is on him. I've also played free music - another whole approach. I think Faddis is "entertaining".

Great tune, fine Tom Harrell's solo and good rhythm section.

I don't hate Faddis but as a basis of comparison if you listen to Tom Harrell's solo you'll hear real musical substance not show-boating - he digs deeply into the harmonic structure and plays jazz of depth. If you had both Harrell's and Faddis' solos transcribed you could probably discover the difference pretty quickly. Harrell has real respect among jazz musician's - and not merely trumpet players. What he plays would work on any instrument, kind of how Bach works on all instruments.

ed young I love how straight he plays.... its like a big fuck you to people who want to hear flashy bullshit. Everything he plays is so soulful anyways. Harmonic wise always perfect. It's one of those players ho sound like he actually means every note.

Styles differ just as tastes differ. You hear Miles, Freddy, Dizzy,Mangioni you immediately know who they are. Same with Faddis. You don't have to like him but you need to respect his talent. Your comments seem unnecessarily condescending. Another example of Faddis being himself ua-cam.com/video/EKqjPeKAh2Y/v-deo.html

Tom Harrel and Faddis are just playing two different schools and styles. Both are brilliant. Music isn’t a competition

There used to be another video of this concert but the track was "picadilly square" I think? Does anybody know where that video went? I think it was a blues chart and had these guys trading choruses....

Faddis hears the music in the particular register he’s playing in just as Harrell hears the music in the register he is playing in. I enjoy both approaches equally for different reasons.

badddnote that doesn't make any sense. You should like one approach more than the other.

Every horn player had shitty time except for Tom Harrell, the g. Bobby Watson is just not swingin.

The truth is Jon Faddis seems a total amateur after Tom Harrell chorus.

entertaining, musically... whatever... it;s no meaning but show them something. Faddis showed them something. I know you guys say. But two great trumpeters are both of Great! Faddis showed his own phrase and Harrell showed too. They are professional musician. They have their own color and it is always happen during playing music... if some guy say 'entertaning' 'Bach sophomoric'... whatever.. They are their own color. Thay are not kid or student. I think you guys have better show them RESPECT!
