✏️ After 7.5 years, I have rewritten this song AGAIN.
I chose to rewrite Demi's version from the Frozen credits rather than Elsa's/Idina's version, though - I felt the pop-rock sound would be a good place to start/would suit Isabela, considering the fact that "What Else Can I Do?" already sounds SO modern and pop-y in comparison to Idina's "Let It Go."
STORY CONTEXT:
I wrote the line "All dressed in white, what a beautiful sight" and just couldn't scratch it, so I decided to come up with a scene in an AU version of the story in which Mariano's proposal went as planned and Abuela wishes Isabela to wear her own wedding dress. This conundrum serves as Isabela's final straw (as opposed to a confrontation with Mirabel) since "Let It Go" is a solo song and I wanted to keep it that way, to allow for a more intimate exploration of Isabela's feelings.

Love the line “This rose has thorns and they’re here to stay” and “I’m not that perfect girl it seems but I’m who I wanna be” they’re lines that show her growth as a character. She’s subscribed her whole life to the idea that she must be perfect no matter what and not let her thorns show. But when she says “This rose has thorns and they’re hear to stay” she accepts that part of her for what it is.

Maybe next you could do "Show yourself" or "Into the unknown" for Mirabel that would be pretty interesting.
Yeah into the unknown could be about how Mirabel wants to run from her problems but her enormous love of her family keeps her from doing so. I'm not sure about Show yourself but I feel like that fits her, and maybe Let it go would be good for Mirabel as well Let it go could be about how she doesn't want to try to be better for others just because she doesn't fit in with her family especially see how hard it is TO have a gift but also acknowledging things that are important.
@@SistaBear show yourself would definitely fit her since the closing of her arc in the movie is her finally seeing and appreciating herself for who she is and not focusing on what she lacks

That sounds great it really does fit her well! and what if there is a rewrite of "Waiting on a miracle*or" but instead it's in the past tense like maybe after the movie is over and now she's singing about how she accepts herself now or in a alternate universe where after ththe house collapses and she's singing in past tense as if she's like given up trying to be good enough for the village and her family and just stops trying

Huh, I never thought about a rewrite for Isabela, but I can totally see how it works. I can't wait to hear the new lyrics. Maybe you could flip it and do If Elsa sang "What Else Can I Do?" Just a thought :)
I don’t think she ever will since 4 months ago she already made “What else can I do?” with Rapunzel and she said in the description of that video that she thought it would be cooler for rapunzel choice of leaving the tower rather than just some cool powers

Not gonna lie, after watching this video (& seeing your comment) I just had to finally try & make my own Elsa version of "What Else Can I Do ?" (still working on the lyrics all day) Dont get me wrong, I LOVE the Rapunzel version, been listening to it all day again (& I sure did not expect that one) But I think Elsa was the obvious choice & many want to hear that version too. And I think it also suits Mulan perfectly. All girls are breaking free from their roles & expectations, from being "the perfect girl" & showing what else they can do lol. Ngl after hearing that song & this video for the first time, I coudnt help myself but see how the lyrics perfectly suit Mulan & imagine my own lyrics. I dont know anything about music & video making, english is not my first language & I am not that creative. But we all agree, an Elsa version would be really cool :D
I honestly really want to see the aftermath of this song, how the family reacts to the change and how Isabella confronts Abuela and everyone telling them she never wanted to be perfect or marry Mariano

Not only is that line amazing, THAT LAST NOTE WAS INCREDIBLE!!!
Today is my birthday, and those have always been quite difficult for me - kinda "let's just get it over with"-situation with them. So since Isabela is my favorite Encanto-character - and one of my favorite Disney-characters altogether - I started to search something about her as a motivation. I've been a little frustrated about the fact that some people have seen Isabela just as "Elsa 2" and "WECID" as an "another "Let It Go" ", because even though they have some things in common, they are separate, their own kinds of awesome and relatable characters.
But what you did here... is so beautiful, fitting and inspirational that I can't help bowing and clapping, tears in my eyes. Such relatable and hopeful lyrics for recovery and many kinds of situations. I'm so thankful that you posted this and that I found it today of all days. This will give strength and courage to so many, I'm sure. Thank you.

The one thing I would have done differently is change the "I'm okay" to "And I'm fine" as a callback and get basically closing out her arc.
ohh neat idea! What I might have done instead would be to switch out the "It's fine" for "It's okay" in the monologue, since the "ay" rhyme is supposed to remain in the chorus.

Absolutely wonderful. Great rewrite. If I had any thoughts about what *I* would prefer, it would be, instead of "Turn my back and slam the door" , the line would be something like "Stand my ground and open my door" - Let It Go was about Elsa separating herself from others (slam the door), whereas at the "What Else Can I Do" moments, it was about Isabela finally feeling she is realizing the "life of her dreams" and this is opening herself up versus closing herself down (that comes when Abuela shows up).
Wonderful rewrite.
Appreciate the feedback - I actually debated changing that line, but I decided to keep it as-is, since the theme of "doors" is also present in Encanto. I interpreted it as Isabela turning her back on the role she's been assigned, slamming the door (which depicts her as perfect and graceful) in the face of everyone who thinks they know her. By the end of the song ("let the cracks tear down my door"), she's decided she doesn't even care if her door/her image remains intact or not.
