Thanks for the test of the Wouxun handheld, Lewis. That was just the stock whip with a 1m wire as a ground plane. Very pleased with it indeed, and your Anytone sounded great. 73, Paul M7MVF.
Nice video Lewis. I bet all the dealers are now sold out of 4 meter radios, after we all treat ourselves for Xmas!
I hope 1 day we get 4m in canada and us. Once again thanks for the videos.
Lewis - that was great fun, going down to one Watt too. I also talked to M3XYY, Alan, in Liverpool - so there are people out there on 4m.
Reminds me of the 'Wilson Little Will" mag mount antenna for 10-11 meters here in the US.
Some good distances covered. 👍
Great video as always Lewis. Let's hope 4M continues to grow in popularity. 73
Nice! Wish we had that band here in the states. 73 de K2CJB
Good to see 4 meters is busy in your area mate. Not quite as busy up here but it does get used. I like 4 its a good band.
I got one of these tiny 4m fm mobiles a while ago cheap it does the job. 70.0 to 70.5 mhz not a big band but good for local nets. Good to see someone calling CQ and having a proper qso on fm you dont dont hear it much anymore, it is not difficult just put a call out as shown.
A great day up there and a great video but would be great if there was more repeaters to help. Great contacts and a good radio and take care best regards M6SBN
For amateurs in the USA wanting to know why we don't have the 4M 70Mhz band. TV channel 4 is from 66-72Mhz, and TV stations are done moving channels, and getting repacked.
As an added note of interest, since you're testing what maybe either a classic 4M mobile vertical or an older ham market one (from back when 4M was the VHF seg hams used), that often the antenna found on low band VHF mobile installs was a 1/4 wave vertical, and most common 4m mobile PMR sets were low power (typically about 10W, maybe 20 for high power items).
It's a bummer that the 4 meter band is not available in Germany at this time, here's hoping it will be opened for secondary use again sometime in the future.
Thanks Lewis for a great video, interesting looking antenna base, 73
Hi Lewis, I really enjoy your videos, I got my licence in the late 80's, by the early 90's I think I'd given up. However, following on from watching your videos I have this week revalidated my licence with Ofcom, the RSGB provided me with a copy of my entry in the call book from 1989, I also found my City & Guilds Amateur Radio certificate to forward a copy. So now I am licensed again. I have bought a Retevis RT85 along with a dual band mag mount and will hopefully get time soon to visit some higher ground. I hope to chat with you one day. A lot has changed, I have a lot to learn. Great videos, thank you G7AER.
I like this. too bad we dont have 4 meter band privileges here in the USA.
When are you going to do the fieldtest of the Baofeng AR-152 "big green piece of ****"?
I have the Keystone radio on 4 meters that you had on another 70mhz video.
That's one band that we're not allowed to use here in the states
