  • if you grew up in the 80s and 90s than this is the video for you. in this video I talk about the things I miss from the 80s and 90s. like 80s malls, 90s grunge, how we had the best hollidays in the 80s and 90s, 90s rap, picking up girls at the mall, playing who can get the most phone numbers, 80s cartoons, especially 80s saturday morning cartoons like the transformers, thundercats, go bots, he man, voltron, mask etc. plus i talk about how much better it was for kids in the 80s and 90s compared to the 2000s or the 10s

In the 80s and 90s there was still some energy and innocence in the world and this was expressed through popular culture. Sadly, both have long gone. I see the period from the 1950s up to the millennium as a one off phenomenon. I'm just thankful I got to experience it. In balance, so far, the 21st century sucks.

I agree. I miss busy malls, great movies, the music and the hairstyles. As a kid of the 70s, I spent more time outside riding my bike, exploring and meeting up with friends. Face to face socializing taught us how to react, how to live through a tough time, and how to really learn about the friends you have. There was no texting... but a lot of passing football shaped notes. Nice video... thank you.

Smartphones have literally ruined basically everything the 80’s and 90’s were. I hate it, and there’s no going back. There was a sweet spot there in the late 90’s and early 2000’s when the internet was awesome, but it was at least ‘controlled’ somewhat because you had to actually sit at a computer to use it.....at least then, people still got up and went out to do stuff. Now, nobody can go anywhere or do anything without starring at their phones the whole time. I really hate it and it makes me extremely depressed and ai spend so much time longing for the past while burning up valuable ‘present’ time. I guess I just have no hope in the future so why be optimistic

Met a bunch of my old friends at the skatepark and we kicked it lick it was 2003. If you've ever skated before I recommend trying it again, you'll be surprised. Its a sport and community that will keep you shielded from most of the tik tok and instagram BS you see out there today.

Right all technology does is take away the personability that makes life worth living and really it only serves to highlight only a special few who can live up to these constructed standards that people worship online if you don't meet the standard you're basically totally ignored without any context which is why you have so many sad people because they don't even have closure that you would have in person if someone says something bad or mean to you now you're just left there too wonder in your own space why someone would say something like that to you online or in the worst case just blowing things out of proportion just because you put something out there and don't get the proper response you're looking for it's happened to me and it's happened to other people all across the world from different cultures doesn't matter where you're from I wish we could go back but you're right it's over.....

Not biased. It is very, very clear that the 80s and the 90s were FAR better than whatever the hell you call this era. You are completely accurate that technology has become destructive compared to the new and exciting stuff that was coming out of the 80s and 90s. Every year new and exciting products were coming out. Now, it’s hey new year, new phone. You are also correct that the balance of technology was far better in those ‘old’ days. We played outdoors, we had adventures, we had our technology that complimented our lives vs technology defining who we were. Great video, and spot on recollection - it’s amazing to me how quickly the world has changed...and certainly not for the better.

I only lived through half of the 90s, but I still have so many fond memories of it. Even the early 2000s weren't as bad as today. I even miss that era. I feel like, for me, the decline began in the 2010s decade and everything began changing so fast rather than gradually, it's affected so many people in the worst way. I miss going to the mall with friends, and the times before the political unrest. It's so hard to even make friends now (I only have 1 that lives far from me) because most friendships are so shallow anymore. I think what makes me so fearful is that, aside from my brother and mom, I'll just be completely alone. I don't want a romantic partner at all, but just a couple of friends who aren't just gonna leave when they tire of me. At only 27, even the world I grew up in no longer exists.

My smartphone sits where my landline used to be and I use it like a landline. TV is streamed, but 90% of what I watch is from earlier times. Same goes with music and "retro" video games. I use a standard stereo to play CDs and vinyl. It is funny, but I hate leaving my house because I feel like I am enter a dystopian future.

I agree. If I could I'd go back I would in a heart beat. Not that the internet, computers and smartphones don't make things convenient, but they do change how we interact with each other. I remember hanging out with friends every day and walking to the mall or movies, going bike riding, etc... I miss not being tied to a phone and always reachable. Halloween and Christmas were so much better. Every house in our neighborhood decorated and gave out candy. We even shut down the block on the 4th and had tractor rides, a neighborhood BBQ and a pinata for the kids. I just don't see that coming together anymore. It seems like we have to walk a couple of miles when I take my kids trick or treating just to get a quarter of the candy I got going around the block. And trunk or treat is not the same. Insurance through work was actually good. My parents had a 90/10 and weren't paying crazy high premiums. There were actually cashiers in stores instead of self check out, and fast food was still a job aimed at teens and college kids instead of a second or third job for families trying to make it. It's probably mostly that I miss that time of no responsibility and in the light of nostalgia everything looks better. The world's just changing so quickly with new technology that I hardly recognize it anymore. Oh well, with the good and the bad we must keep moving forward.

My uncles were rugby players and I remember spending weekends outside, then post game in and out of the bar (where smoking was allowed), and everyone was engaged - if you were there you were present, you didnt have a window to somewhere else in your hands. And because of those windows to elsewhere, the here and now no longer exists, it has died - and because it died there, it has died everywhere else.

I remember when I turned 30 a few years ago, most of the people I was hanging out were in their 20s. I would end up at the bars with them and the band members were my age and they would play songs from the late 90s and early 2000s. These kids did not even know what the song was. Meanwhile, I am happily singing along to songs I heard back in my teens and living the moment. I felt old but also embraced my age. At that time, I realized I was very much happy to have grown up in the 90s as a kid. Born in the 80s. Now, me and the wife (same age as me) often watch shows from the 90s. Young people today don't have that 1 on 1 interaction that our generation had. They also don't have the imagination that we enjoyed. Sure, the cartoons that we watched were overall advertisements for their toy lines. But we still had our hands on experiences to give us that interaction. I am not against technology, but young people today sadly are missing out on that in-person social interaction.

It was fun, we opened fire hydrants, tagged buildings, jump fences, played basketball, drove dirt bikes, got into fights, had fashion, had kick backs and hang outs. Our version of hide and seek was Man Hunt where it was an expanded map basically. It was hide and seek as teams (boys vs girls) and we ran through the whole neighborhood. Man the hood was magic. I am grateful to have grown up in the 70s and 80s. Take music, for example: you bought a vinyl record, it cost you a month's allowance, and you instantly liked two songs. You gradually came to appreciate the rest because you didn't have many LPs. Cassette tapes, you made mixtapes to impress the girls in class. The fashion was ridiculous, I thought so even back then! Great times, good memories.

I've thought a lot about this, and based on my own personal experiences I feel like with each new generation we devolve a little bit more. I also firmly believe that the influence of the entertainment industry is to blame for this change. All the wholesome TV shows from the 50's and 60's are long gone, with each new decade having successfully pushed the boundaries of what was acceptable further than the one before. The same is true in regards to popular music. The songs of the 50's seem so safe and innocent compared to the music of today, and just like TV this didn't happen overnight, it took decades. I grew up in the late 80's/early 90's, and would give just about anything to relive those years, but if I'd been born in a previous decade my guess is I'd favor that decade more. To me it just seems like with each new decade society keeps getting worse, and sadly I don't see that changing. We seem to be devolving at an ever increasing rate thanks to technology, and our over reliance on it. So in conclusion, the past was awesome, and the future won't be.

I miss the 1980s and early 1990s. Technology today is getting hacked., back in the 80s on back everything was done manually. Kids can go out and play all day and parents did have worry about us. Without getting into the politics as to why society has gone "down" since the 90s, things have definitelu gotten far less human. I have my theories as to why things got worse and you've touched on a number of them. God, corporations, media fear-mongering, etc. It's all true.
Having graduated high school in 1999, I pity kids these days who are so separated by politics, evil power hungry media conglomerates, phony values, and social media. I'm so glad I had an actual CHILDHOOD. These kids today don't have it. They don't. I don't care what anyone says.

I was born in 1991 so I didn't get to experience teenage life in the 90s but I did get to experience the kid crazies of the 90s though it's more like the late 90s for me since the earliest memory I have is from 1996-1997. I especially felt you on the Halloween and Christmas traditions. I remember in my neighborhood that people would go out for Halloween and Christmas. There was this one house that would always host an annual Halloween mini maze and this guy in this freaky costume would pop out of some random box and give you candy. Scared me shitless at the time lol.But I don't see this kinda energy for Halloween anymore and I started noticing around 2010-2011. People weren't decorating much at all anymore and where I currently live, there are no trick or treaters at all. For Christmas, I remember my family would do the sleigh night ride tradition where you could ride around on this big sleigh pulled by horses dressed like reign-deer and they'd take you around the town to look at all the Christmas lights while sipping hot chocolate. They stopped doing that around 2005-2006. I will say that where I currently live, this one house across from me does go all out for the holiday decorating their house but they're the only house that does lol.
But yeah the childhood boom of the 90s was something. I think it was the last generation where they really went all out to get kids attention (and their parents money lol) from things like the Furby/Beanie Baby revival, the Pokemon boom, and further continuation of the Saturday Morning cartoon block (and TGIF nights). It's a shame that these things are a thing of the past now but I think that's all the more reasons why people who did get to experience it should always try to cherish them.

In my 20s I hated it, also hated the last decade. So its not a generational thing. Times suck now. Everything is to overprice as well. Ask older folks in your family how it was for them in their 20s and 30s. Totally different reaction to us in our 30s. Back then, you didnt have to have too much money.

There was way more mental space, presence, relishing the technology and entertainment we did have, and way way more outdoors and physical activity as a daily habit. Saturday morning cartoons had heart and real wisdom back then. I think the creative essence was stronger because everyone had more imagination, less distraction, a lot more evocative vigor in the creation juices less dopamine drained from modern life.

    8. Halloween 🎃 and Christmas 🌲 and the holiday commercials/tv shows,
wasn't uncle Jesse the coolest ?
    9. I had to put this one by itself because it's my all-time favorite show.. if I watch it when I'm in a bad mood, I'm automatically happy.
    That show is Happy Days.
    10. The Weekend.
    11. Summer in the 1990s, there was nothing like it.
    12. Video stores/ Blockbuster video.
    13. Old school cars.
    14. K-Mart.
    15. And most of all, I miss my Family and Friends I lost.
I would love to be able to go back to Christmas Eve of 1990, and be myself,
even if it were for just 5 minutes..
It would be just enough time to hug everybody, and let them know how much I love them.

I think every decade goes through the whole "we had the best prior decade we grew up in thing" however, without cell phones and all the social media apps, theese kids are lacking social skills that we had in the late 80s early 90s,(I was born in 77')...I never see kids outside playing like we did back then, and it makes me sad in a way, I think the creation of all this technology has a lot to do with all the social problems the kids have nowadays. Nothing beats real interaction with people.

I got into 80s music in the 1996 because of The Transformers: The Movie and have favored 80s music ever since. The 2010s are important because it brought greater access to Japanese anime soundtracks. For the majority of the 90s I was nostalgic for the 80s cartoons. In recent years I have come to appreciate 90s cartoons like Exo Squad and Earthworm Jim.
