Nice to come across this video. My Great-great grandfather, Jesse Barber Gordon, born in 1849, perished in this tragic accident at the age of 48. He was the superintendent for the Bradstreet Mercantile Company at the time. He left to mourn my Great-great grandmother Elizabeth Wilhelmina Gordon, three sons, Walter (with his deceased first wife Bella) Frederick and my Great-grandfather Harvey. His final resting place, is in the Ross Bay Cemetery in Victoria.
My dad told me his mother watched the rescue efforts from the western shore. She was born in 1877 and was living in Vic West at the time.
