    I've got the USA 92 floydrose original. You have to remember the original floydrose strat didn't have a cut out routed fully so you couldn't get any extreme range of movement, just half a step up. These mexican floydrose strats are actually made better than the USA ones due to this. The USA strats floydrose also rattles against the wood due to the no cut out.

    I got the same guitar. I changed the bridge pickup to a X2N because I like the sound more. I think the “problem” is the nut area where they have just taken a normal player neck and routed a shelf for the nut and not designed a neck specifically for a locking nut.

      Are you having a fret buzz issue?

    • @davespin9034

      Great point! For experimentation purposes I bought a Squire and installed the locking nut. I had to grind the center of the locking nut to clear the truss rod. Did you take this nut off and notice a relief for the truss rod nut? I actually shaped my truss rod nut like a bullet to provide clearance. So mentioning a neck specifically for a locking nut is a valid question/comment.

    I got mine, just like yours in late 2018. I played it stock for a couple years and found that the humbucker was hooked up to 250k ports so it wasn't getting as high an output as it should. I love the Floyd Special. It holds up to everything I do to it and it stays in tune well. My neck feels strangely similar to any of the Charvel So Cal necks. Love the thick finish on the maple board. I bought a new pick guard cut for 1 hum and 1 volume. I put a Seymour Duncan low friction 500k volume pot and a Seymour Duncan TB 6 Distortion humbucker in. I upgraded the bridge with a bunch of FU Tone stuff and lower tension springs. Dollar for dollar I have an EVH style Fender Strat. Love it! Basically what I have always wanted less the stripes. Before I modded my Strat it sounded great and could cover a ton of different genres. Anyone would be well served with this model. Great video sir.

      Thanks for the review. Did the lighter springs make a difference in the feel of the trem? I got some noisless ones, but they seem stiff. Another guitar I have had lighter springs, but it requires all three of I run out of tightening space to get it level. That kind of defeats the purpose.

    I bought a Schecter Blue Reign last year, was over a grand. I was pretty disappointed when I realized it came with a Floyd Special. I stripped one of the saddles on the first string change because the saddles are zink and the screw is steel. Ended up buying a set of stainless saddles on Amazon for it and it's ok now. Still upset that a $1000 guitar came with a Floyd Special though. Normally I just replace the entire trem unit with a licensed Floyd from Gotoh, which I have done 8 times now on other guitars, lol. Much love for Gotoh.

      Hi RetroQuest,
      It’s funny, with all of the new guitars being made by CNC, you’d think the prices would at least stabilize due to decreased manufacturing costs. I guess they need to grab every cent wherever they can. It was not long ago when $1000 got you a high end guitar. I agree it should not have had a special in a $1k guitar.

    I actually bought the neck off one of these guitars the other day. I want to swap it out of my MIM strat which has a Floyd but has the 9.5" radius, so i thought id swap the neck on it to something similar but with a 12" radius. I hope it doesn't turn out shit and the neck is ok. Also the new neck i bought is maple the old one is rosewood.

    • @primaltone9064
      @primaltone9064  Рік тому

      Hi RabidGerry,
      On the Floyd rose, there should be some shims under the saddles if it is set up for 9.5.
      If so, just remove the shims and reset you intonation.
      After that it should be fine.
      Thanks for watching and commenting!

    • @RabidGerry
      @RabidGerry Рік тому

      @@primaltone9064hi man, thanks for that. I never even thought Bout that. I have a weird feeling my saddles on the Floyd are not shimmed. Meaning they've stuck a 12" radius trem on a guitar with 9.5" fretboard. We shall see. Two other things to note about my guitar, it's some kind of licenced FR which I believe is decent, steel saddles, steel plate, small brass block, but the down side is the strat body doesn't have a cavity for the fr trem to sit in. It literally is mounted like a vintage trem where whammy dives are possible but pulling up is not possible as the plate has nowhere to move as there is no recessed area. So no upward pulling on that guitar not that I do that really anyways. I think as it's steel all over it beats the GR special. Stays in tune as well. Before I had this strat I had another one, older MIM which was stolen on me. It had an FR II installed. Both axes came as stock. With these terms. So the one I own now, some random licenced FR, and the older was an FR II. The one I have now is definitely better than that FRII. Thanks for this btw it was useful to me.

    The tremolo being a Floyd Rose special on a fender plus just makes zero sense at least to me. Since I've been watching the UA-cam channel and finding these guitars such as Sire among many others. They not only offer a Floyd Rose 1000 series , but a real roasted neck thru and thru. Most also come with real abalone inlays , locking tuners and the craftsmanship and quality control of guitars costing around $500 if not less is just amazing and the guitars are literally flawless after your final quality control inspection. I even looked at a Jackson and this was a usa-made Jackson , $4 grand US pricing. Whereas the Sire what's a little more to offer other than pick ups ~ $560 with a SKB ~ TSA hardshell case. I personally have been playing over 40 years and always thought brands carried a symbol of expertise in craftsmanship. Now 40 years later I'm finding that to be completely untrue. Even AOL or Wolf guitars ~ WOW , something you just have to really look at to believe and I even had to watch a video of it because people were saying the inlays are stickers etc etc etc ~ all untrue , Wolf even in their Les Paul style guitars.. even The binding is real abalone , definitely worth watching a video and checking that out before you spend two or three grand on your next guitar ( even the headstock inlays are real abalone ) unless it's just the brand name you're looking for ~ because on several models even on the Gibson which my latest is a 2017 Les Paul HP bourbon burst , love it . But Epiphone has stepped it up such as the Jerry Cantrell and Adam Jones signature , even the Joe Bonamassa signature models sell out before the signature Slash edition Epiphone models...

      Hi Bobby,
      Thanks for sharing your experience. I agree about the brand name, production model, pricing. It feels like the big names are definitely taking advantage. Most production guitars are made on a CNC machine where they can knock out several bodies and necks at a time. The less expensive models are now made the same way. A good example is fender. The American strats start at around $1700. The Mexican ones (prior to COVID) were $579-$700. Now the Mexican guitars range from $830-$1100+. I’m sure this was based solely on the popularity of the Mexican guitars due to them being more affordable. Also, look at the prices of the Les Paul Tribute. ( The least expensive USA Les Paul they make) $1300 and nothing to write home about. I realize prices can’t stay the same forever. But why the excessive profit margins? Anyway, the you for your contribution Bobby!
